Only digital can supply the level of precision needed to monitor minute changes, often as little as one hundredth of a unit, in important variables. The NX2 system allows cruising or racing yachtsmen who require integration with computers, chart plotters or other equipment to build the system they need. The NX2 system fully interfaces with other NMEA compatible third party equipment, to allow a fully integrated system across three display types - standard LCD, analog or large digit XL displays. FDX software (Fast Data eXchange) opens the door to laptop convenience and together with the Nexus race software, speeds the flow of information through the network by up to 10 times. Nexus Race Software revolutionizes the way calibration is done within the system. Adjust settings, calibrate and auto-deviate the compass all from your laptop. Calibrating wind speed and wind angles is easy –Nexus software does it for you. The Nexus NX2 system links all its digital instruments within a network. The benefit is that when new settings are keyed into one digital instrument, all other instruments on the network receive the information simultaneously. This is especially handy when you want to add trim values, activate lighting, clear the trip meter or calibrate instruments. The Nexus instrument network provides optimal function, readability and quality. It connects three groups of core components in the most effective way. The NX2 Range offers both digital and analog instruments, a server and five different categories of transducer (log-temp/depth/wind/compass/GPS). For the last two years, Nexus has been supplying Salona factory-fitted instruments across their whole range of sailing boats. The relationship between Nexus and this highly-coveted Croatian yacht builder is far more than a simple customer / supplier relationship. Nexus works closely with Salona from the concept of a new model, through testing and final delivery – all with the aim of increasing sailing enjoyment of Salona owners. Dean Barker, the America’s Cup skipper and Nexus / Garmin ambassador has even had the pleasure of test sailing the Salona 38 when it was first launched in 2012 – giving some vital feedback to Nexus and Salona regarding instrument placement and configuration. Salona currently specifies a NX2 Sail Pack and autopilot as original equipment, which perfectly suits the boat’s role as a cruiser / racer. Just check out how many winners Salona has on the Nexus Hall of Fame on our homepage! This is our most interesting and effective analog instrument, drawing information from the electronic compass, water-speed sensor and the GPS to create one single piece of critical data represented by the needle! The Steer pilot enables the helmsman to steer to an exact course using updated steering information refreshed 5 times every second by the NX2 server. The instrument needle instantly indicates the smallest deviation from the intended course or preferred wind angle. The Steer Pilot can also guide the helmsman to steer by the needle using the data from a Polar Diagram as reference. On a downwind course, the Steer Pilot enables the helmsman to steer the optimum course for the best VMG, refreshing the data five times per second. So, how do I use it? It’s really very easy. With a steering wheel, imagine that the instrument needle is connected by an invisible wire to the center of your wheel. When the deviation appears, just turn the wheel as if it was connected to the needle, back to a straight up position, it’s that easy! PC INTEGRATION/CALIBRATION ACCURACY OF INFORMATION Every system is supplied with the FDX software, which allows the user to calibrate the system, easily and quickly from their PC. FDX software permits fast data exchange on the network and up to ten lines of race software generated data to be displayed. A huge amount of time, energy and knowledge has been poured into developing NEXUS transducers, to ensure the accuracy of the information entering the system. The brief given to the research and development team was to think outside the square and design the best anemometer available. The team came up with a low drag unit that utilizes a twin fin for a more stable wind direction, while utilizing a propeller for measuring wind speed. The result is greater accuracy at low wind speeds. Coupled with that is a leading-edge HPC compass that utilizes heel and trim to provide an accurate heading, as well as true wind information. FLEXIBILITY OF DISPLAYS The NXR system has a wide range of displays, allowing you to tailor-make an information system that suits your individual requirements. The NXR multis come with two options: standard LCDs and the innovative inverted LCD, which reduces the light shining from the display at night to allow easy night vision. Large digit displays are available with the XL20 (46mm digits) and the XL30 (63.5mm digits), so that essential data can be easily seen on even the largest yacht. NXR analog displays are also available for users who prefer data displayed by way of a pointer. Additionally, you can select between red and green backlighting for optimal viewing at night. 18 EASE OF USE The displays are designed to be remarkably easy to use. Four pre-programmed menu pages ensure that mast displays can be set up with the push of one button. It features a three-bladed propeller and double wind vanes, which are toed in to give extremely good stability in both low and high wind speeds. The three-bladed propeller, unlike the more common cups design, is always 100% efficient. That, together with the optic reading technique, makes Nexus transducers superior at low wind speeds and also provides for excellent linearity. What’s more, all our wind transducers are mounted on a carbon arm for more resistance and durability. INNOVATION THROUGH RACING Nexus Marine owns our leading market position because we offer reliable and highly accurate products with innovative features and designs. And that is primarily due to our focus on the unique requirements of the sailing yacht. Leading our research and development team is Jan Silfvén, a keen sailor with over 20 years experience in marine electronics development. He understands the requirements of both the racing and recreational sailor. Naturally, Jan works closely with Dean Barker in the development and perfection of new products for the racing market. In addition to Jan and Dean, Nexus maintains a pro-active research program team that pays close attention to feedback from all customers, agents, sales representatives and sailors in order to know the best way to improve existing products and design new products that meet the unique needs of sailors. The Nexus research and development team appreciates the unique demands of the serious competitive racer, as well as, the recreational yachtsman and strives to create the best products for sailors just like you. WIRELESS WIND TRANSDUCER NWIND RACE TRANSDUCER The twin fin wireless wind transducer brings all the advantages of wireless instrumentation to the cruising sailor. Gone are the complications and aesthetic issues of running wiring from the top of the mast down to the chart table. Instead, the wind transducer establishes a unique pairing using radio signals with the WSI connection box. This forms the core of the NX instrumentation system, ensuring that each transducer / server pairing is distinct from every other. The information is then fed from the WSI connection box to your Nexus network, thanks to Nexus FDX protocol. The nWIND Race Wind transducer overcomes the problem of upwash affecting the accuracy of wind information by raising the sensor above the mast top. The twin fin design makes this a highly stable and accurate wind transducer. The internal batteries are continuously charged by a small solar panel mounted on the transducer arm, have a life of around three to four years, and are easily replaced. NWIND TRANSDUCER ® ® • • • • • • • • • 24 ™ ™ Converts data between the Nexus network and NMEA 2000® Provides trouble-free compatibility between Nexus and Garmin products Simple plug-and-play installation between Nexus, NMEA 2000 and USB No user setup or system configuration required Allows PC applications such as NexusRace, Expedition, Adrena, or SeaTrack, to communicate sailing specific functions between Nexus and NMEA 2000 networks Enables GND 10 software updates over NMEA 2000 Existing NexusRace PC application can be used to update software, configure, and calibrate Nexus devices over USB using the FDX protocol Lighting levels of Nexus Marine instruments can be set from equipment connected to NMEA 2000 Allow setting and resetting of race start timers and distance logs from Garmin equipment connected to the NMEA 2000 network The nWIND transducer connects directly to the Nexus network providing 30% faster data transmission to the system. The highly successful design of the masthead anemometer has been retained with the use of a propeller providing a more accurate True Wind Speed (TWS) in lighter air whilst the twin fin design gives a more stable True Wind Direction (TWD). An easy, snap-in attachment for mast mounting is included. The nWIND transducer provides a highly accurate output for the Nexus network. The nWIND Race transducer connects directly to the Nexus network providing 30% faster data transmission to the system whilst allowing you to store calibration tables in the system for True Wind Angle (TWA) and True Wind Speed (TWS). The result is extremely accurate and fast wind data information which is all good news for the racing yachtsman. As with both the wireless and conventional forward-facing masthead wind sensors, each unit is factory calibrated to take out any sensor anomalies. This results in very accurate wind speed and direction information. These calibration values are permanently stored within the masthead unit. Using the FDX software provided with every NX2 and NXR pack, it is possible to calibrate the masthead unit to also take the effects of wind shear into account, making this a highly accurate wind sensor for both the racing and cruising yachtsmen. The nWIND Race transducer offers three mounting options: a conventional flat base, which is screwed to the top of the mast, a spigot type base, and for those unable to fit the vertical bracket a forward mounting option. SPECIFICATIONS Dimensions: 117.2cm Weight: 11.28 oz. Enclosure: Waterproof Power supply: 12V DC (10-16V) Current consumption: 20mA at 12V Accuracy: Angle ± 0.5 %. Use the Racebox as a sophisticated start-line timer specific to a boat’s performance curve on race boats equipped with a Nexus instrument system. But what it really does is give your crew the timely data they need to race faster. POLAR DATA DATA LOGGING Load it with your boat’s polar table to calculate both PBS (Polar Boat Speed) and TBS (Target Boat Speed), and send either to the Nexus TBS field depending upon how you configured it. This data is sent to Nexus and displayed on your instruments, so it’s right on deck where you need it. The Race Box uses the included standard SD card to record race data both in text format, for loading into a spreadsheet, or in native Nexus (NXB) format for compatibility with Nexus software. START LINE DATA Linked to a GPS receiver, the Race Box uses your position, speed and heading data to help you nail every start. You tell it where the starting line begins and ends by “pinging” each end. Once it knows where the line is, it can tell you line bias, how far away the line is and how long it will take for your bow to reach the line. If you use the Race Box start timer, it will tell you time to burn, or how early you’ll be. EASY TO EXPAND AND UPGRADE As they become available, future hardware expansion modules will offer exciting new capabilities. Software-only feature enhancements will be posted online for download, and can be installed easily using your PC, MAC or Linux box and a USB cable. No need to ship it back for upgrades. HPC COMPASS The HPC Compass features a 6-axis configuration that also incorporates heel and pitch. It provides exceptionally accurate vital data, such as true wind angle, even when the boat is heeled right over. Nexus HPC Compass represents a real advance in high-end racing compass transducers. NEXUS NEW GENERATION ADBOX HPC COMPASS The adBOX (Analog Digital Box) allows the simplified expansion of the NXR system with the addition of equipment to be integrated into the Nexus network. Connect to an increasing range of transducers and sensors for even more flexibility when designing a system that meets your specific requirements. You can even connect analog signals into your system such as load cells and string pods. TRANSDUCERS TRANSDUCERS NEXUS TH 52 MM LOG TRANSDUCER NX TRIDUCER FOR SPEED, DEPTH AND TEMPERATURE NXR SOLID STATE LOG TRANSDUCER This 52mm transducer is similar to the 43mm and provides speed and temperature data. It has a built-in lock valve to prevent water leakage when cleaning the paddle wheel. The Triducer requires only a single aperture in the hull to collect three separate sets of data – speed, depth and water temperature. The single fitting reduces drag through the water, saves on maintenance and preserves the integrity of the hull. The Triducer is made from glass-filled polyester for strength and can be retracted to reduce fouling when at rest. A dummy plug is included for fitting when not used for long periods. The NXR Solid State Log Transducer makes cutting edge, high technology speed sensing affordable. Instead of a paddle wheel, it uses two transducers mounted in one compact housing to detect particles in the water and calculates speed based on their distance apart. The transducer reacts instantaneously to changes in boat speed. Part No. 22327, Log Transducer TH52 NEXUS TH 52MM DEPTH TRANSDUCER This transducer measures water depth and has the same features as the 43mm. The only difference is a hull aperture of 52mm.
