Belize
Tucked into a forgotten corner
of the Caribbean, Belize remains
somewhat isolated from the
rest of Central America. Today
it harbors the region’s last
unspoiled marine and rainforest
environments and offers some
of the most exciting adventure
travel in the Americas. Belize
is also inexpensive to get to
and easy to travel in. English is
the primary language, and US
dollars are accepted throughout
the country. There are so many
incredible places to explore
that you will want to return for
years to come!

Cully Erdman created Slickrock
in 1977, then a kayak
school on the Colorado
River. In the early 1980s
he expanded to Central
America after exploring
the region while assisting
with adventure television
shows. In 1986, Lucy
Wallingford became a partner,
and together they
developed the Belize
trips they run today.
Both remain closely
involved with all aspects
of Slickrock. You will
likely speak to them
when you call, or meet
them on the island during your
trip. This hands-on approach
ensures their trips meet your
expectations.

“Our trip was fun, relaxing, exciting, enjoyable,
well-organized, safe, friendly, and more similar
descriptors. The food was delicious. You were able
to accommodate both a vegetarian and a glutenallergic person without seeming to miss a beat. I
would definitely return, and definitely recommend.
Everything was completely thought through and
communicated clearly, activities were conducted
with utmost regard for safety, equipment was
great, and above all everyone on the island is
friendly, fun and interesting.”

Surf Belize!
Slickrock’s location on Long Caye is
blessed with an exceptional set up for
surf sports. The prevailing swells rolling
in from the Caribbean break on the point
of the reef near of the channel on the end
of our island. This topography creates a
long, rolling wave over shoals that can
break for a hundred yards or more. The
break is easy and fun, an ideal wave for
beginners and experts alike.
Our surf sports program takes advantage
of this fabulous wave, featuring kayak
surfing, board surfing, and paddleboarding. Full instruction and top notch gear
ensure that all guests can enjoy our wave, which is located just a few yards in front
of our cabins on the beach.
BEGINNERS AND EXPERTS ALIKE CAN RIP IT UP ON OUR WAVE WITH
OUR HIGH PERFORMANCE KAYAKS, BRYONY SWAN
In addition, Slickrock offers the opportunity to learn windsurfing
and kiteboarding. The calm waters inside the lagoon of the atoll
are perfect for beginner lessons on our wide selection of windsurf
equipment, and experienced sailors can explore further reaches of the
atoll, visit other islands, or try out the surf break. We also operate
a professional kitesurf school in association with Vela Windsports.
Taking advantage of the extensive, shallow sandflats between us and
a neighboring island, guests can now take a progression of lessons to
learn this exciting new sport. Our access to these sandflats provides an
unparalleled opportunity to learn kitesurfing, and few other locations
worldwide, according to our instructor, can match our set up!

GLOVER’S REEF IS WELL KNOWN FOR THE
DIVERSITY OF ITS’ SPONGES, MARK WEBSTER
Just off our island lies “The Wall” — the stunning coral-covered face of the
continental shelf, where the sea floor drops away to 3000 feet in just a mile.
Rated one of the top scuba diving sites in the world, it rivals any location in the
Caribbean, the Red Sea, or the South Pacific. Long Caye Dive Center is located
just down the beach from our base, providing our guests with a full-service dive
center. Certification courses, Discover Scuba classes, and dives for those already
certified are all available at any time during your stay on the island.
The many shallow reefs at Glover’s allow snorkelers to see nearly everything that
scuba divers access, along with the advantage of not having to worry about special
diving equipment. The freedom of snorkeling appeals to a wide range of people
and is our most popular activity. The clear warm waters of the Caribbean are
more salty than in temperate regions, and creates extra buoyancy for swimmers
which allows anyone to feel comfortable while exploring the reefs with a mask and
snorkel. Our island sits right on the reef; you can jump in and snorkel right off our
beach!
