Joe had attended Baylor for two years when he was called up to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Drill Instructor during the Korean Conflict. Nicholus S. Huntzis September 4, 1937 ~ March 7, 2016 Nicholus S. Huntzis, "Nicky," loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away Monday morning March 7, 2016 in Austin, Texas at the age of 78. A true Austinite, born and raised in Austin, Texas, Nicholus was born on September 4, 1937 to Marty Huntzis and Ethel Jones. Nick was raised on East 1st St. close to Govalle. In his younger years, Nick attended Palm Elementary School, Allen Jr. High, and Stephen F. Austin High School. He played football for both Allen Jr. High and Austin High Schools. In 1957 Nick met Connie Jacobson while attending The University of Texas at Austin and Connie was in high school. After four years of dating they were married in 1961. Nick worked two jobs for 40 plus years, which includes The University of Texas at Austin, Texas Instruments, and the Texas Association of Sports Officials. Nick is survived by his wife Connie, two daughters Audrey Templeton and husband Charles; Stephanie Achebe and husband Cyprian, four grandchildren Courtney, Hannah, Mikah and Nathaniel. Nick was a humble man who loved Jesus Christ his Lord, his wife, children, and friends. As an ordained minister and deacon, he was very involved in his church, he was ever willing to help, give of his time, and teach God's Word. A short preface to the following story, Connie was gracious enough to send me the story of how she and Nick met. At a time when a spouse is grieving over the loss of their sweetheart, this is a sweet story with a bit of humor...Kay Newman Down memory lane: In 1957, on a balmy Sunday evening, Nicholus had attended a youth fellowship at Hillcrest Baptist Church. As he and a friend (Bill Lively) were leaving, they noticed one of the girls from the fellowship, Connie Jacobson “standing on the street corner” underneath the church lighted sign. They stopped to see if she needed a ride. Connie said she thought her parents were supposed to come pick her up but Connie forgot she was supposed to call them so they would know the fellowship was over. This was the first time Nick and Connie met. The boys gave her a ride home. Over the next year Nick dated Connie's friend Bonnie. Soon Bonnie had to move to California, but she asked Connie to “take care” of her boyfriend. (heehee) As you might guess, Nick did call Connie and asked her out. Unfortunately, Nick had “Bonnie on the brain” and talked of her often. As you might guess, Connie was getting “a little fed up” with this and said if he didn't stop they would need to stop dating. Well Nick thought this over and came up with a plan. The next Friday, Nick picked her up and drove to Pease Park. Connie was curious about why and Nick told her he brought the letters from Bonnie to “burn” in a bar-bque pit. It was then their courtship really began and on Christmas Eve, 1960, Nick proposed on a walk bridge over looking a creek in Eastwoods Park. She said yes and they were married in September 1961, at Hillcrest Baptist Church. During the following 54 years of marriage, they had 2 daughters, Audrey and Stephanie. Nick and Connie worked supporting their family. During those years, Nick worked two jobs for 40 plus years, which included The University of Texas at Austin, Texas Instruments, and the Texas Association of Sports Officials and driving cars for Enterprise Rent Cars. Nick loved his Lord, work, his church and his family. The next years would bring them 5 grandchildren and eventually 2 great-grandchildren. In 2016, after many years of suffering from a blood clot, diabetes, and the many things that diabetes harm in a persons body, Nick left this world and went to be with his lord and savior. —Connie Huntzis Nick Huntzis May 2016 Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat Men’s Prayer Group Meets on Mondays at 6:45 AM Catfish Parlour Meets Every Other Tuesday at 11:30 AM Men’s Golf Meets at Various Times Each Wednesday Dinner and Bible Study Begin at 5:00 PM on Wednesday 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 National Prayer Day Gene Merchant Amy Strickland 8 9 Lemar & Sheila Porter 20 Years 10 Chuck Denman 15 Don May Ron Smith 11 Jim Lozier 16 17 18 Brad & Susan Boyett 15 Years James & Grace Lee 21 Years Clyde Danks Peggy Heiseman Phil McCrady 12 Sherry Davis Terry Parks Linda Swayze Earl & Joan Tucker 59 Years Ken Peacock Sonya Pence 13 14 20 21 John & Virginia Kreimeyer 15 Years 19 Napa Flats Buddy & Shirley McGee 34 Years 22 Clyde & Mary Louise Hooker 71 Years Mary Esquell 23 Bob Kriegel 24 Jack Sharp 25 Gary & Teena Dyer 43 Years Dan Jacobson Jean McCoy 29 Brian Nicholls 30 Margie Anderson 31 Terry & Terri-Lynn Clodfelter 36 Years Bill Cassady 26 Clyde & Mary Lee 44 Years 27 28 Max & Betty Arrell 57 Years Ruth Brady Libby Cardenas Mike VandeWalle Rob Hewlett Nancy Loflin Richard Helmer Flo Pope Karon Teague Upcoming Events: 1-Super Sunday Spectacular Spaghetti Supper, 11:11 & 12:30 3-National Teacher Day 4-Outreach & Evangelism Team 5-National Prayer Day 9-Adults on Missions Meeting 15-Mission Committee Meeting ~ Finance Committee Meeting LL Lunch at Napa Flats 22-Graduate Recognition Sunday ~ ABC Trustee Meeting 23-Deacons Meeting 24-National Brother Day 25-Business Meeting 30-ABC Offices Closed June 2016 Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat Men’s Prayer Group Meets on Mondays at 6:45 AM Catfish Parlour Meets Every Other Tuesday at 11:30 AM Men’s Golf Meets at Various Times Each Wednesday Dinner and Bible Study Begin at 5:00 PM on Wednesday Upcoming Events: 1-Outreach Evangelism Meeting 4-ABC Adopt-a-Highway 8– National Best Friend Day ~ World Oceans Day 12-Missions Committee Meeting~ Lunch @ Steiner Ranch Steakhouse ~ Annual Fish Fry-Catfish Parlour 13-Adults on Missions Meeting 14-Flag Day 19-Finance Committee Meeting ~ Juneteenth 26-Trustee Meeting 5 Harry & Nancy Loflin 64 Years Bill & Diane Love 45 Years Candy Johnson 12 6 7 Zack & Jana Dawes 1 2 37 Years 3 4 Oren & Sue Connaway 36 Years Dan & Linda Jacobson 42 Years David Procter James Lee 8 Mike & Linda VanDeWalle 43 Years Sandy Beard Boyd Onderdonk 9 Ron & Jan McClarty 49 Years Mark Barnett 10 Carol Bowman 11 Doug & Doris Burris 52 Years John & Ethel Ellison 46 Years Chip & Cindy Graves 29 Years 13 Kenneth Gage 14 Chuck & Carlene Denman 53 Years! 15 Wells & Karon Teague 44 Years Mary Louise McDonald Sue Perryman 16 Jerre Frazier 17 18 Glen & Jaci Pierce 41 Years Catfish Parlour Joe Miles 19 20 Bob Antilley Mary Ann Lind Joe Musselli Tom Stacy 21 Neil & Lou Moore 65 Years Jackie Partlow 22 Paul & Amy Strickland 9 Years Phil Gore 26 27 23 28 29 30 Bill & Brenda Bandiga 29 Years Phyllis McPhail Parker & Margie Blevins 45 Years Debbie Caldwell Della Lozier Echo Martin Bruce Oliver Gil Kuykendall Clara Stockton Bill Bandiga Andy Stockton 24 Alan Cunningham Melinda Stacy Cindy Wappler Phil & Clifteen Samuelson 60 Years 25 Gary Guy
