Duplex Folder
Long Folder/Slitter
SWI Duplex folders have “leap-frogged” the
competition. When designing the Duplex,
we listened to what our customers wanted
from an up & down folder. We listened to
what they didn’t like about other machines
on the market. The Duplex eliminates the
inefficiencies seen in other up & down folders
through intelligent design and incredible ease
of use. Those of us who have used the SWI
Duplex know that it’s easier to use than any
traditional long folder.
We now know that the SWI Duplex has at
least 57.7% more capacity than a traditional
long folder. In one test, we achieved 82.2%
capacity improvement.
To complete our package, we kept our costs
under control by using modern, efficient
manufacturing processes.
When integrated with SWI’s Marxman
machines, the SWI Duplex Folders are a
class leading highly efficient manufacturing
system.

Minimise Waste
Part Cut (optional).
Unique to the Marxman Triplex
is the clever Part-Cut system.
The Part-Cut allows ANY slit
part to be separated and cut
to length independently of
the adjacent slit parts. This
eliminates the need for time
consuming post operation
“cutbacks”. The part cut
function allows extremely
complex nested cutting
patterns to be produced with
minimal manual effort.
Simple automatic nesting
eliminates the tedious task
of manually determining the
cutting pattern.
The slitter knives & Part-Cut
locations are automatically
performed. Simply enter the
blank sizes – or load flashing
details from SWI’s integrated
folder software, and allow the
Marxman Triplex to quickly
calculate the optimal nesting
arrangement to minimise
scrap. Save hours of manual
calculation and cut scrap
costs dramatically. Intelligent
features in the nesting
software extend part length &
width to eliminate unnecessary
operations. Nesting features
such as part rotation, longestto-shortest sorting and “drag &
drop” are standard.

Incredibly simple
operation:
The 17” LCD touchscreen
control is simple enough for
even inexperienced operators
to use. Job data can be entered
on the machine, off-line in
an office, or download your
flashing details directly
from SWI’s integrated folder
software. Knife setting
positions, label positions
and part cut positions are all
calculated automatically. Once
a production run commences,
the operator simply needs
to monitor the progress and
remove the scrap parts during
the run. All machine functions
can be operated manually,
simplifying maintenance and
troubleshooting. Furthermore,
a Semi-Auto mode exists for
basic high volume slitting and
blanking.
Accurate, programmable
length control
The Marxman provides for batch
data entry and operates at
speeds up to 30m/min (80fpm).
Typical length repeatability
is ±1mm. Adjustable speeds
and auto length calibration are
standard. World famous Allen
Bradley control system ensures
long term serviceability
worldwide.

ADSS Uncoiler
Specifically designed for higher volume
applications, the SWI ADSS-Auto Decoiling
& Storage System, can be coupled to any
rollforming or slitting & blanking application for
fast, automatic coil changes. When coupled
with SWI’s Marxman Triplex, the slitting line
will automatically instruct the ADSS which coil
is required for the production run. The coil is
efficiently retrieved from the coil farm by the
ADSS and fed automatically into the Triplex.
Special features of the SWI ADSS include
the ability to handle coils without the need
for any expensive mandrels. Coil spacing
can be varied, so that a combination of large
and small coils can be placed into the coil
farm without wasting floor space. Typical
coil change times are less than 2 minutes.
During coil changes, process operators are
free to attend to other tasks such as order
management and preparing for the next batch
run, which saves time and provides higher
machine utilisation.
Safety.
Every time a coil is handled, it’s mass can be
estimated by the ADSS. The mass is recorded
in the material database so that it’s evident at
the start of a production run whether or not a
coil is likely to be exhausted before the job is
finished.
The ADSS can operate as an autonomous coil
handling system, making it ideal for retrofit to
existing high volume rollforming applications.
Using internationally respected components
such as Allen Bradley PLC control, SEW variable
speed drives, Rexroth hydraulics and SICK
safety systems, the SWI ADSS is built with
long term serviceability in mind. Hardware
used in the ADSS has specifically been chosen
to reduce complexity and provide simple
maintenance and troubleshooting. The ADSS
does not require any special training and
normal operational tasks are self-evident.
Obviously, with such highly automated
systems, safety is paramount. The ADSS
includes rigid hydraulic piping to eliminate
hydraulic hose failures. Robust CAT4 light
curtains continuously monitor the ADSS
movement zone and all electric motors have
mechanical brakes to ensure rapid stopping
and secure load holding should the machine
shut down due to unplanned power outage.
Danger zones are constantly
monitored by the ADSS safety
system. Using Safety Rated PLC
controllers, the ADSS meets the
strict requirements of Category
4 guarding. The light curtain
system constantly monitors for
obstacles in its path, while still
allowing forklift or crane access
to the coil farm during coil
feeding.
4
Remote control for
manual operation.
Simple coil change.
Coils can be placed either by
overhead crane or forklift.
Visual guides on the coil stands
ensure that coils are placed
in the correct location. The
exact position of the coil is
not important as the ADSS can
automatically side shift each coil
to ensure accurate alignment
with the downstream process
prior to coil feeding. Unlike
other machines, the ADSS can
tolerate a moderate amount of
coil telescoping by dynamically
detecting the edge of the coil and
adjusting accordingly.
3
A remote control is provided
to conveniently operate all the
ADSS functions manually for
maintenance and servicing.

SPECIFICATIONS:
Maximum line speed: 85m/min (250f/min)
Coil widths: 900mm to 1250mm (35” to 50”)
Maximum coil mass: 5 tonnes (5tons)
Maximum material thickness: 1.6mm (16ga)
Nominal coil bore: 508mm (20”)
Coil Change time: <2 minutes
Power requirements: 3ph 380-480VAC
Compressed air required at 6 bar minimum.
Inventory control is simplified
with coil mass estimations before
and after each production run, as
well as barcode linking between
the ADSS and SWI’s Marxman
Triplex. Every time a new coil
is loaded into the coil farm,
simply place the appropriate
material specification barcode
adjacent to that coil, and use
the Marxman Triplex barcode
scanner to register the identity of
the new coil. Once it’s location is
registered, the ADSS will always
find the correct coil.
Fast coil changes.
The ADSS uses simple hydraulic
lift technology to quickly lift
and lower coils . The “silent”
hydraulic system has been
specifically designed using
the same technology used in
common forklifts. The ADSS long
travel glides along the rigid track
with electric variable speed drive,
just as used in modern gantry
cranes. Mechanical brakes
provide positive stopping, even
in the event of complete power
outage.

Reduced coil damage
Before each coil is loaded into
the coil farm for the first time,
coil bore protection is inserted
into the coil bore to protect the
inner wraps of the coil from
damage during the rapid coil
change process. It takes just
seconds to install the inserts and
they can be re-used time and
again.
Expanding mandrel
systems use Deublin(tm):
Rotary hydraulic
couplings.
Uncoilers
SWI manufacture a range of uncoiler & coil
handling solutions.
From manually operated 1 tonne uncoilers
to integrated 10 tonne coil handling lines, we
have an uncoiler to suit any application.
All SWI uncoilers are built to order, so we can
include any feature you might want...feed
up tables, choice of loop control sensors,
snubber rollers, over or under feed,...and so
on.
On-board Rexroth
hydraulics:
Our automated uncoilers can be adapted for
use with SWI’s “hands free coil threading”
technology.
SWI have pioneered low cost hands free coil
feeding technology for the rollforming and
flashing industries. In terms of cost, simplicity
& speed, our coil feed tables are regarded as
the benchmark for our customers.
Simple and reliable Rexroth
hydraulic systems used on SWI’s
hydraulically expanding mandrel
uncoilers. The fully enclosed
hydraulic micro packs do not
require regular maintenance.
Load holding hydraulic valves
ensure mandrels remain
pressurised for longer periods.
Adjustable pressure settings
allow adjustment to suit lighter
and heavier coils.
Deublin rotary couplings are
internationally regarded as the
most serviceable hydraulic rotary
coupling available.
SWI is very highly regarded amongst major
customers for our uncoiler safety. Our guard
solutions add efficiency to the work process.
Clever guarding systems.
SWI pay careful attention to the
interaction between operator
and machine. Guard systems
are design to facilitate safe and
efficient operation. As much as
possible, tasks are performed
from outside the guarded area,
including maintenance and
troubleshooting. This reduces
the risk of forcing operators and
service personnel to perform
dangerous tasks while inside the
guarded area.
Automatic speed control.

SWI recognise the very important role of software
in modern manufacturing processes. Our
philosophy is that excellent machines can be made
even more productive with excellent software.
SWI’s folder interface software has long been
recognised as the easiest to use fully featured
interface available. Over the past 10 years, SWI
have built upon that foundation to develop a fully
integrated blanking & folding software package.
This provides our customers a manufacturing
software system that is built into the machines,
and integrates with their administrative processes.
For smaller operations, the database simply does
its thing behind the scenes, linking detailing,
slitting & folding into a seamless, paperless
process.
Behind SWI’s easy to use machine software is a
detailed SQL database that can be integrated into
existing business software such as SAP, making it
suitable for large, modern paperless manufacturing
systems. Unlike other equipment providers, SWI
have complete control over the software, making it
suitable for integration into any existing operation.
Security and redundancy are also significant
considerations with modern software systems.
That’s why SWI have made it possible to continue
machine operation even if the database system is
not operational.
Importantly, SWI’s system remains flexible enough
to allow job data input at any stage of the process.
Even with the fully integrated system, it’s still
possible to enter customer’s job data at the folder
itself, or even at the Marxman slitter. No matter
what point in the process the job data is entered,
it’s all captured in the SWI database.

TESTIMONIALS
Hancock Sheetmetal Co
“ We purchased a Marxman Slitter from SWI
Engineering over 15 years ago. It has always
been a very good and reliable machine and is still
in operation today. We recently retired our 8m
Thalman and had no hesitation in replacing it with
a SWI 8m folder. The price was very competitive
and we are very pleased as the machine produces
an excellent result as well as being easy to operate
by staff. We have always found the after sales
service to be of the highest standard “

“ We have recently purchased the new SWI Duplex
Folder for our custom fabrication division in
Kilsyth South. We have found this machine to be
versatile, accurate and reliable making its use in
our factory very efficient. Comparable types of long
length folders do not have all the aforementioned
components. We are very satisfied with its
performance, training and commissioning as well
as their customer service that we have received.”
Lysaght Indonesia
“ If we can give comment of SWI machine
condition in Lysaght Indonesia, mechanical and
electrical system is OK until now and all of them
average per weeks running 24 hours, 6 days. This
machine is suitable to support of our business now
that our target productivity must increase until 35%
for fiscal year 07/08. We hope we can the target
because we have this machine. Thank you very
much and nice job for you today. “

“ We have three machines on site and I can’t speak
highly enough on the standard to which these
machines are made. All machines are made to last
& any adjustments are very easy to follow in your
operations guides. The folder is the main machine
about which I have spread the word around at our
different sites. The features which stand out are;
how much quicker tasks are performed (slitting,
folding), how quiet the machine is, how smooth
the movement is at the end of each stroke, how
simple the gauging adjustment is and how close
the product tolerances remain without the need for
constant adjustment”
MacLaren Sheet Metal
“ The SWI machine that we purchased is excellent
for operator use and quality of finished product
and speed of production. SWI installation and
backup service has also been excellent”
Skipton Street Sheet Metal
“ It has been almost one year since we
purchased and installed an 8 metre folder from
SWI Engineering and has proven to be a very
successful investment for our company…. their
quotation was competitive and their customer
service was outstanding. The installation was
professionally completed with no problems at
all and the follow up training was faultless, with
six staff attending the training sessions on the
first day, all staff went away very happy and
confident (considering it was their first day with
computerised equipment). The efficiency of this
machine is exceptional and we have noticed this
through our sales over the past year.”
