What you should know about PRIAMUS
Cavity pressure
The cavity pressure is still one of the most important parameter to get the process and not the machine under control. Depending on the position in the mold it makes sure
that the process is really optimized and that the parts are
actually filled.
PRIASEDTM
The instruments and methods in production have to be
simple, safe and effective. Just as well as the automatic
sensitivity detection of PRIAMUS cavity pressure sensors.
The sensors have only to be connected to the electronics
and all the rest is done automatically.
PRIASAFETM
It is not only the already very high accuracy of the sensors
but also the precision when mounting the sensor into the
bore which can lead to high deviations of the measuring
results. For this reason PRIAMUS protects the sensors
with a housing und calibrates them not before they are
quasi mounted.
Small but powerful
For many applications it is considered that the smaller the
sensor the better. However the risk rises to activate high
measuring errors. Basically a sensor should be selected
as big as possible. Furthermore in many cases not the
diameter of the sensor is decisive but its lenght. PRIAMUS
miniature sensors are not only protected by a housing for
mounting, but they are also extremely compact. And they
are equipped with a separable cable and automatic sensitivity detection.

Cavity temperature
The temperature is the second pillar of quality control in
injection molding. Cavity temperature sensors are not only
relatively cost efficient but also by way of comparison robust for mounting, easy to apply and can be used for many
applications.
Real miniature sensors
Cavity temperature sensors are not just thermoelements.
They have been developed and optimised so that they
detect as fast as possible a raise of temperature when the
melt gets in contact. The smallest sensors have a diameter of just 0.6 mm! All sensors are waterproof.
Retraceability
All PRIAMUS cavity temperature sensors are checked for
their rise rate and amplitude. They get a serial number like
the pressure sensors and are therefore retraceable.
Miniature quick disconnets
Especially in multi cavity molds with many cavities the
connecting cables have to be separable for mounting and
demounting. The handling for example for service works of
this mould would hardly be possible.
With PRIAMUS quick disconnects cavity pressure and cavity temperature sensors need only to be mounted once
and withstands to the cleaning in the ultrasonic bath.

Measuring data acquisition
PRIAMUS measuring systems have been especially and
consequently developed for the injection molding process.
Strictly to the credo „as simple as possible - as effective
as possible!“
With the eDAQTM the future begins already today
The eDAQTM is the heart of all control systems. Up to 128
channels can be measured. A number of real time monitoring functions are available for each cavity. They trigger
within less than 0.5 miliseconds a switching operation. A
standard ethernet interface is available for the data communication and for networking.
Alarm outputs for each cavity
Especially with multi cavity molds it is often too expensive
to sort out all injection parts when only one bad part has
been produced. PRIAMUS systems offer thus the possibility to separate individually each bad part so that scrap
costs can be reduced. In doing so, the alarm outputs can
basically be defined for good or for bad parts.
Intelligent machine interfaces
In order to manage the multiplicity of possible switching,
alarm and signal outputs PRIAMUS offers a modular interface concept which can be connected to each injection
molding machine and to each peripheral control unit. Custom made solutions are available for individual machine
manufacturers.
All systems also for rotary table applications
Whether a process is „only“ monitored or also controlled,
all PRIAMUS systems are so designed that also special
processes such as multi components or rotary table applications can be securely operated. Regardless in which
cavity, bad parts are always and guaranteed identified and
sorted out.

Process monitoring
Only the monitoring of the process in the cavity assures
that a good part has been produced. The monitoring of machine parameters is in fact by way of comparison simple,
but not significant. Depending on the complex of problems
the melt compression, the complete filling of the injection
parts or other process parameters such as the filling time
in the cavity are monitored.
Viscosity monitoring
In many cases different viscosities based on badge variations or changes of environmental conditions are the cause for process variations. With an easy method viscosities
in each single cavity can be automatically detected and
monitored. Thus it can be assured that the melt conditions
are identical in each mold independent of machine or personal.
Automatic melt front detection
The automatic detection of the melt front in the cavity is
the basis for many process control methods.
PRIAMUS systems detect automatically and in real time
when the melt reaches the position of the cavity pressure or the cavity temperature sensor. Almost at the same
time a switching signal is generated which will be used
for control. In this manner switching operations are only
then generated when the melt is actually at this position,
independet of different viscosities and filling times in the
cavity.
Furthermore the position of the melt front can be optimized
with delay times. Thus weld lines can for example be moved specifically to the required position and be kept constant.

Automatic switchover to holding pressure
This application is often used for automatic switchover to
holding pressure. Thereby the automatic switching to holding pressure occurs when the melt reaches the pressure
or temperature sensor shortly before the end of flow path.
The advantages are obvious:
- no filling studies are any more necessary
- the parts are always completely filled
- the switchover is always optimal
- viscosity variations are being automatically
compensated
Automatic mold venting
In a similar way venting problems are being solved. A mobile core will be only closed when the melt has filled almost
the cavity. Thus the air can escape without any problems
until a pressure or temperature sensor detects the filling of
the cavity and initializes the closing of the core.
Automatic sequential molding control
By large molded parts with several valve gates a pressure
and a temperature sensor are placed in front of each gate
in order to open it automatically when the melt reaches
this position. Thus a complex optimisation with filling studies is not necessary. The gates open automatically at the
right moment.
Automatic valve gate control
By the automatic detection of the melt front multi cavity
molds can be automatically balanced and controlled with
valve gates.
This is applied for standard and family molds as well as
for standard or liquid silicone applications (LSR). As an
alternative to hotrunner balancing the delay times to open
the valve gates are being cycle by cycle automatically optimised and adjusted.

Hotrunner balancing with PRIAMUS Fill
PRIAMUS Fill balances and controls hotrunner molds based on a temperature or pressure rise before the end of the
flow path. Two operating modes are available: the system
balances cycle by cycle a constant filling of the cavities
or it controls upon a once optimised and saved reference
condition. So it is possible to operate at a push of the button different machines under the same conditions.
Universal process by the melt front
It is only possible to apply a universal hotrunner control by
the automatic detection of the melt front. In this way also
cluster molds, family mold or multi component molds can
be controlled without any problems. A control by the pressure rise of the cavity pressure after switchover to holding
pressure is not possible for this application, and even for
normal multi cavity molds not always clear.
Control of the surface temperature
Another component of the PRIAMUS Fill system is the
automatic balancing of the surface temperature which is
crucial for the shrinkage of the molded parts. For this application the same cavity temperature sensors as for the
hotrunner balancing are being used. Thus no additional
costs arise. Controlled are either the different cooling circuits of thermoplastic resins or the heating elements of
thermosets and elastomers.
Patent situation
Most of the described applications and products are protected by patents respectively by patent applications.
