PRESIDENT & CEO
NISSAN MOTOR CO. LTD.
Today we feel much more comfortable after the earthquake, because
practically our plants are fully reestablished. We are at normal production, and
if not at, then very near it. 2011 could have been a major year for progress and
development of Nissan -- we had to downgrade it a little bit because of from one
side the earthquake, from the other side the very strong yen, but it’s still going to
be year of growth -- I would say significant growth of 10 percent more in volume
for the year.

MANAGING DIRECTOR
NISSAN MIDDLE EAST FZE
Welcome to another edition of Nissan’s SHIFT_magazine. We have been
quite busy for the past few months with several activities which included the launch
of our new Nissan Juke. The new model was launched as part of an exciting
media test drive event which took place in the emirate of Fujairah in the UAE in
June. The Nissan Juke cements Nissan’s reputation as a car maker prepared to
do something different.
We have also announced that we extended the agreement with DuPont
Performance Coatings [DPC] by an additional three years for the supply of their
leading refinish brands - Standox, Spies Hecker and DuPont Refinish - to the
Nissan Service Centres’ body repair facilities across the Middle East.
Enjoy reading the magazine until we meet again!

The story of the Juke, expected soon in the G.C.C., is indeed a remarkable
one. It’s an crossover, but a nimble and sporty one at that, oxymoronic you

The V6 also delivers 258 pound-foot of torque, which is very useful with the

The four-cylinder engine is the more prudent choice and delivers competent

The craftsmen start by preparing the vessel, box, tray or any object
that will be treated. A base of bamboo strips interwoven using horse hair
is coiled around the object. Thitsee – a black varnish obtained from the
Lacquer tree, is then prepared by mixing sawdust or ashes to form a
putty-like substance called Thayo.

An ornament more than an emblem, this unique piece of art has
been

using
Urushi
lacquering
technique.
Urushi
is
produced
by extracting and collecting a caustic, toxic sap from the trunk of a 10
year old lacquer tree.
The greyish yellow sap, commonly called urushi,
is then filtered, heat treated and coloured before applying on to the base
material that is to be lacquered.
The applied sap is then cured in a warm, humid chamber for 12-24
hours as a result of which, it dries and forms a clear, hard and waterproof
surface. Care must be taken when handling urushi. In its liquid state,
urushi
can
cause
extreme
rashes,
even
from
vapours.
Once
hardened,
urushi reactions are possible but less common.
Creating a single GT-R VVIP emblem is a long process and requires
many hours of careful repetitive layers of colour, decoration and drying
times. Gold powder is sprinkled on the GT-R VVIP emblem making it the
perfect Maki-e and giving your car the extra hint of glow.

right. In addition to all the state-of-the-art technology, Takanobu Sakumoto, a
specialist in the sensory assessment of wind noise, uses just his ears to sense
and fix unwanted wind and air noise to make your Nissan vehicles quieter.
When driven, cars generate many kinds of sounds; engine noise, exhaust
noise, induction noise, road noise, etc, all of which increase as the car goes
faster. Wind and air noise affect every car as its drives along and especially

it comes to unwanted noise elimination in cars. It is Takanobu-san’s job to
differentiate between the different types of noise and their source in order to
minimise the overall noise from the car. He has a special gift – that of hearing
what most of us would find it difficult to hear or may not even hear. Takanobusan can identify a small noise from a particular component in the car and then
find a solution to fix it.

from his new refrigerator’s motor. The noise was so slight that the manufacturer
could not even identify it, let alone fix it and it was left to Takanobu-san to solve
the problem himself, which he successfully did.
Nissan is continuously working on improving the driving experience of its
cars and SUVs and a key aspect of this effort is to make every car’s cabin the

All well and good, but on the flip side, mankind has progressed by eating

Even the heart of a congested city will always have clean and fresh air
because electric vehicles (EVs) never emit exhaust fumes. EVs will bring in
