Club News from Paul H oliday greetings from your Sara Bay family. As 2014 comes to a close, it has been a successful year for the Club. Over the last twelve months we’ve welcomed a number of new members and also enjoyed the benefits of a very successful summer program. Sara Bay was selected to host the 100th Women’s Southern Amateur Championship in 2015, and we will once again host the LPGA Symetra Tour. Our members overwhelmingly approved the recently completed cart path resurfacing project, keeping with our mission and vision to be recognized as one of the best Donald Ross designed golf courses in North America. Thank you for your support and loyalty. Please join us for Bingo on Wednesday, December 3rd and plan to bring your kids or grandkids to see Santa at our Annual Family Holiday Party and Cart Parade on Sunday, December 21st. Finally, celebrate with us with a casual dinner in the Donald Ross Grill Room, or an elegant dinner in the Palm Room on New Year’s Eve, Wednesday, December 31st. As always, the Club is available for your Holiday parties, we also have an extensive catering menu for your in home party. I am honored to be your General Manager and it is very important to me that your experience at the Club is enjoyable. If there is anything that I can do to make your experience better, or if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call me, email me, or stop by on your next visit to the Club. It is great to see our northern members returning this time of year, as well as all the new members that have recently joined. It is the time for good cheer and spirited camaraderie, so engage your fellow members and celebrate the season at your Club. Just a reminder that there is still time to introduce a prospective member to Sara Bay and take advantage of our “Share The Experience” promotion, since there will never be a better time to join. Also, we offer an attractive variety of membership options that I would be pleased to explain in detail, including our Trial Membership program. The Admissions Committee continually explores new avenues to promote the awareness of Sara Bay and always welcomes suggestions from the members. A sincere “thank you” to all the members that have referred prospects to the Club, because you have always been our best recruiters. As always, your staff will strive to exceed the expectations of our members, since our mission is to be recognized as one of the finest Donald Ross golf clubs in North America. The December meeting will be held Wednesday, December 17th. Susan Neumer will be the discussion facilitator for The Spectator Bird by Wallace Stegner. All members of Sara Bay are welcome to join the monthly meeting, held at noon in the Palm Room. Please contact the office if you plan to attend. Linda Hagen 7 Golf Pro Shop I n the past years we had designated a couple of hours in the evening on a specific day to do your holiday shopping in the golf shop but because our schedules are so hectic this time of the year, we are trying a new approach and make this special shopping day an all day affair on Friday December 12. The golf shop is open from 7:30 a.m. till 5:30 p.m. and we will be ready to help you with your shopping needs. Our golf shop is well stocked, Clubs, Golf Bags, Golf Balls, Clothing, Shoes and many accessories. On that same day we will also be hosting the Bridgestone Golf Ball demo day from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. This will be a great time for you to try out their new golf balls. Mark your calendar for this special event. As of this Quips issue there are only 15 days left till the celebration of Chanukah and 24 days till Christmas. If you would like to do some secret shopping simply email me at [email protected] and I will be happy to assist you. I’ll gladly wrap the gifts purchased in the golf shop. Bring your friends along for early Holiday Cheer. Wishing you all a festive Holiday Season! Liz Findley, Merchandiser SAVE the DATE: Friday, December 12, 2014 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Bridgestone Golf Ball Demo MARK YOUR CALENDAR! Friday, December 12th SPECIAL HOLIDAY SHOPPING DAY This will be an ALL DAY affair in the Golf Shop. Join us for BRIDGE at Sara Bay Ladies arrange their own table of 4 and meet in the ladies lounge on Wednesdays at 11:00 a.m. We happily greet new tables of 4 to play. No need to call, just arrive with your foursome. Our wait staff will graciously serve lunch during play for those who order. 32ND ANNUAL GREEN JACKET TOURNAMENT 2-Man Team Championship Friday & Saturday January 16 & 17, 2015 1:00 p.m. shotgun both days Modified Stableford Format Sign you team up in the Pro Shop for the honor or competing for a Sara Bay Green Jacket. The tournament concludes with the Saturday evening diner for participants and their dates. 8 Cocktails 6:30 p.m. Dinner 7:30 p.m. Please plan to come out to celebrate with the Champions! From Tee to Green W ith the cart path project behind us, now we start the next phase of establishing the Bermuda sod. Maintenance will fertilize and water frequently until the sod has rooted in well. Probably the most important part will be to keep cart traffic completely off all the sod, as much as possible. Sara Bay’s staff will place flags around the sod as a reminder to stay off these areas. I know for myself how conditioned I am to drive on the old path areas. This is also true with golfers. It is very important to scatter your carts where the path ends, so not to wear out the sod. Now to what really matters, I hope everyone has a happy healthy holiday season and the best to you and yours. The intent of the event was to have all types of memberships interact in a format that was fun for all. Forty-eight teams, including sixteen Summer Members and five Associate Members competed in the two-day Better Ball of Partners “Ringer Tournament”. The Ringer event allows each team on Day 2 to improve their Better Ball score on each hole to produce an optimal eighteen-hole score. The Overall Champion could come out of any of the four flights. Mark Papa and his brother Ron opened the tournament with a score of 67 (-5) and improved nine strokes during the final round to capture the Fall Member-Guest Overall Championship by one stroke over several other teams with a better ball score of 58 (-14). Bill Goshorn and guest Mark Sheffield finished runner-up in Flight 1 with the score of 59 (-13). John DiTrani and partner Will Livermore improved ten shots during the final round to claim Flight 2 with a final score of 59 (-13).
