Lenín Voltaire Moreno Garcés was Vice
President of Ecuador from 2007 to 2013,
serving under President Rafael Correa. His
election as Vice President was notable
because, as a paraplegic, Moreno was one of
the world’s few disabled national leaders. Once
in office, Moreno initiated profound changes that
improved the lives of people with disabilities throughout
the country, such as increasing funding for disability issues fiftyfold,
implementing monthly stipend checks, providing prosthesis, focusing on
housing and access to community spaces, and championing the first
Shane’s Inspiration inclusive playground in the country of Ecuador which
opened in November, 2013! Lenin Moreno was nominated for a 2012
Nobel Peace Prize and, in December 2013, was appointed United
Nations Special Envoy on Disability Issues.
Rick Kessler, a long-time, successful
entrepreneur, serves as President of R.D.
Kessler Consultants, Inc., a financial
consulting firm headquartered in Southern
California. His strong community involvement
experience, which spans over 50 years,
includes that of Co-Founder and Executive
Director for The Jeffrey Katz Bone Marrow Transplant
Fund for Children; a 19 year member, as well as President of
the Board of Trustees, of the Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House; a
Board Member of Southern California Children’s Cancer Services, Ronald
McDonald House Charities of Southern California, and the Campaign
Discovery Pediatric Oncology Committee for City of Hope Hospital. Rick
also served as a member of the Community Grants Board for RMHC of
Southern California where he provided Shane’s Inspiration with one of
the first grants for our flagship playground. A strong and loyal supporter
of Shane’s Inspiration for 14 years, he is currently serving as Vice
President, and is the immediate Past-President of the Board
of Directors.

Discover A Star Foundation
Established in 1995 as a college scholarship
program for graduating high school seniors,
Universal Studios Hollywood’s Discover A
Star Foundation has evolved by providing
financial assistance to neighboring nonprofit groups linked to children’s causes and
homeless intervention. The Foundation has
consistently dedicated its mission to making a
significant impact in local underserved communities
by partnering with organizations that empower
individuals and families to lead more productive and fulfilling lives. Their
investment in the Together, We Are Able education program of Shane’s
Inspiration has impacted thousands of children’s lives in countless schools
throughout Los Angeles. To date, the Discover A Star Foundation has
awarded nearly $6 million in grants to over 70 non-profit organizations.
