Barbara’s Outlook –
If you attended the fashion show at the Racquet Club on September 10, you know it was the
best ever! Someone commented as he was leaving, "You really know how to throw a party!"
We can never thank Elaine Ervin enough for all the time, effort, organization, work, effort,
and work that she expended for this event! (Did I mention work?) Think of it: she printed the
invitations, the tickets, all required lists, name tags, and who knows what else. She pulled together the
program booklet, which was full of great stuff, including ads. She shopped, she drove, she sold lots of tickets, she
personally visited elected officials and judges to invite them to be models and to attend. She made arrangements
with the stores, coordinated with models, and I don't even know what else was required. She went without sleep and
remained calm and sweet throughout the whole process. And, on top of all that, she (actually her car) had a flat tire
on the way to the Racquet Club!
When I walked into the room at the Racquet Club, I could not believe how awesome the decorations
were. Sandy Crawford has a wonderful gift. The black and white theme, punctuated with pink/rose flowers, small
white flowers, black & white spirals and shiny glitter, in tall crystal vases sitting on black and white runners brought
to mind Art Deco at its best. The runners were of assorted black and white fabrics and the balloons floating in the air
all around the room were zebra themed, tied with black & white bows. It was so beautiful, as agreed upon by the
many compliments we heard. Sandy wasn't in the room, but she received loud applause when named as the talent
and power behind the decorations.
Jean Drumwright, volunteer extraordinaire, worked with Elaine on mailing invitations, organizing tables, and
whatever else was required. There were others who assisted in various ways, including check-in at the event and other
necessary chores. I can't even imagine all the details involved in this event, and I probably left out someone who
should be mentioned. It isn't intentional, believe me. I am so grateful for all that was done.
My personal thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make Shelby County Republican Women's Club look
really good and created all kinds of goodwill for us!
We owe Chico's and Jos. A. Bank so much gratitude for the beautiful clothes. The fashions were every bit as
elegant as the ambiance. And we send great thanks to the models; they were great! We saw the fun side of our
elected officials, candidates, and judges. Now we can put faces to the names on the ballot.
I saw several of you there, and you were beautiful also! There were some who bought tickets and couldn't
attend. Thank you for your support, each and every one!
