Exalted Ruler Message J^»
Upon myreturn from the Grand Lodge Convention in Philadel
phia, Pa., I am reflecting on the inspiring events that took
place. From the grand and colorful opening ceremony to the
impressive closing, the week was packed with many examples
of the pride of Elkdom. My time spent at the convention at
tending business meetings and ceremonies will be an occa
sion Iwill never forget. One of the most rewarding moments at the convention
was when I represented our lodge to receive an award, given by the Grand
Lodge membership committee, to our lodge, for recruiting new members. We
placed second in our division throughout the entire country. This award was
presented at our meeting on July 16th. We also will receive an award, at a later
date, for coming inthirdplace inour division, throughout the country, for the fine
quality of our newsletter. Aheartfelt thank you goes to Bruce Kane (and Rose
mary) and their staff, for doing an outstanding job on this project. This goes to
show what the dedicated people in our lodge can do when they all work to
gether for the good of the organization.
I brought back to the lodge booklets and flyers that cover all the programs
that Elks sponsor. They are in the lounge area for anyone who wishes to look at
them.
Out of many proposals that were brought up on the floor of the convention,
only two passed. The proposal to amend Section 4.330 of the Laws of the
Order was approved. The purpose of this amendment is to conform the statute
to the correct name of the audit report. The second one is the proposal to
amend Section 4.130 of the Laws of the Order, the purpose of which is to allow
the Grand Secretary to appoint a designee to serve as the Clerk of the Grand
Forum. A copy of all these proposals is posted at the lodge.
Reminder-there will only be one meeting in August, on the third Monday of
the month.
Please keep in mind Aug 4th and 11th as visitation nights. There is a list on
the lodge bulletin board. Anyone interestd in attending, please sign up.
The lodge picnic is scheduled for Sept. 8th at the lodge. There will be good
food, as usual, and fun things are being planned to do. Check the bulletin for
further details.
At the convention, Arthur Mayer, Jr., from Bergenfield, NJ was elected to
the post of Grand Exalted Ruler, to lead us next year. Congratulations to Mr.
Mayer from Palm Coast Lodge #2709.
Iwould sincerely like to thank the members of our lodge for the opportunity
to represent them at the Grand Lodge convention. Itwas interesing, informative
and fun. Meeting Elks from all over the United States was really an inspiring
experience.
Fraternally yours,
Exalted Ruler Ray Leon

FROM THE SECRETARY'S CORNER
Items of Interest:
-.CHEF'S CORNER;
presented by C.W.C. Vincent Sapuppo Jr.
A special thanks to Florence DeStefano, Gloria
Sapuppo, Nita Henkle, Dianne Bennett and Linda Carlson for
all their help and support in our events. Their time and efforts
have made the food and preparation a success in the month
of June. Thanks you all.
Secretary's Office: I keep many Elk's publications, brochures, and other
records that are available to members of the Lodge for their perusal and use.
That does not mean that members can come into the Secretary's office and
remove these items to take home for their personal use. Recently, every spare
copy of the Lodge Bulletin, the Master Copy of the Annotated Statutes and
the Secretary's copy of the Lodge Bulletin have been removed from the office.
The last two items were clearly marked 'Secretary Copy'. Ifyou would like to
remove an item for use elsewhere, ASK. If there is no one to ask, leave it
where it is. Other than confidential records, items in the office are for the use
of all Elks, not just a select few.
Dues: As of 7/13/01, we still have 54 members delinquent in their dues. The
number is slowly coming down but not fast enough. Every delinquent member
was contacted in July, either by phone or letter and next month, names of
members will be published prior to dropping them from the roll in the month of
October.

A Change in Secretary's Hours: The Secretary hours have been modified for
the month of August. The Secretary will be available to conduct Lodge busi

FROM THE GRAND LODGE CONVENTION IN
Out in the middle of NewYorkHarbor stands a famous lady, the Statue
of Liberty. The statue was a giftfrom the people of France, and the cornerstone
PHILADELPHIA, PA.
A greeting from our new Grand Exalted Ruler
for itwas laidat what was then Bedloe's Island, in the harbor, inAugust of 1884.
Funny thing about that. The statue itself, as I have said, was a gift from the
people of France, but the base, which was a giftfrom the people of the United
States, cost almost as much as the statue. To me that is rather symbolic.
Somebody else can give you libertybut you have to establish the base for
yourself...
HUMOR? - Gossips are people who have a sense of rumor..People
who know everything are a pain in the neck to those of us who really do..People
and fish are alike: they get introuble when they open their mouth...Not all chemi
cals are bad: Without hydrogen and oxygen, for example, there would be no
way to make water, a vital ingredient in beer... my grandmother is over ninety
and stilldoesn't need glasses; She drinks right out of the bottle...One cannibal

say anything nice about someone-come sit by me...Friends at a bar were asked
what they would like theirfriends to say at their wake.: "I'd like to hear them say
what a wonderful husband and father I was." said the first." I'd like to hear them
say what a great teacher Iwas!" said the second. "I'd like to hear someone say,
'Hey Look! He Moved!'" said the third
I DIDN'T KNOW THAT-The New York City Museum of Modem Art
exhibited the painting, LeBatyearby Henri Matiss, for forty-seven days, upside
down. Over 100,000 people saw the painting before anyone noticed...Thomas
Crapper, a British sanitation engineer, invented the Valveless Water Waste
Preventer, the prototype of the modem flush toilet...There is an old nursery rhyme,
"Barber, barber, shave a pig." It sounds like nonsense, but pig shaving is a
common practice in parts of northern China. On cold winter nights rural Chinese
bring a pig to bed with them for warmth, and they soon discovered that a porker
makes a more pleasant bedfellowwhen its sharp and muddy bristles have been
shaved off...Originally builton behalf of King George III Of England in the late

Arthur Mayer, Jr.
Iam truly humbled and excited about being elected Grand Exalted Ruler
of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. It is humbling because I realize
and treasure the faith and responsibility you have bestowed upon me by electing
me as your Grand Exalted Ruler. Itis exciting because of the opportunity it gives
us to dream and plan for all the accomplishments ahead of us and Elks.
As you know, Ifeel each person can make a difference. Think about it.
Each one of us has the power to improve their Lodge, the Order, and themselves.
It is historic that we conclude this great convention of ours in Philadel
phia, the City of Brotherly Love. Coincidentally, this city's theme is one of the
cornerstones of our Order. Itis also the best way that we can improve ourselves
and Elkdom. Let us go forth from this great city and invite our family, friends, and
neighbors to join us in this great experiance we call being an Elk.
Let us recommit ourselves to all of our Cardinal Principles: Charity, Jus
tice, Brotherly Love, and Fidelity. If we take each one of these principle to heart,
the success of our programs and our Order is guaranteed.
Lynda and I are looking forward to a wonderful year ahead of us as we
travel through this great country of ours representing all of you. We promise you
our total dedication and commitment, and we ask for yours as well.
Let us all meet again next year in Reno, Nevada, with an Order of Elks
bigger and better than today. Success is assured ifwe all do our part. You can
count on us to do ours; we are counting on you to do yours.
Let us each spend this year dedicated to our beloved Order. Let us
make sure that everyone we know and everyone we meet realizes that "Elks
Care-Elks Share." This is possible because each one of us can make that
difference.

We hear it every day!
People are tired of the poor service and high prices charged by the national
internet services like America On-Line, MSN, Bell South, Earthlink etc...
BestNetPC.com is your best alternative. Half of Flagler County uses
us instead of the "big boys" or other local companies.

ANYWAY
People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish ulterior motives;
Be king anyway.
Ifyou are successful, you will win some false friends and some true
^n
enemies;
Succeed anyway.
Ifyou are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people willoften forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway.

He/She Facts:
Weddings: When reminiscing about weddings, women talk about "the
ceremony". Men talk about "the bachelor party".
Socks: Men wear sensible socks. They wear standard white sweat socks.
Women wear strange socks. Socks that are cut way below the ankles, that
have pictures of clouds on them, that have a big fuzzy ball on the back.
Garages: Women use garages to park their cars and store their lawnmowers.
Men use garages for many things. They hang license plates in garages, they
watch TV in garages, and they build useless lopsided benches in garages.
