OUR CORE VALUES
Faith - Our lives center around Jesus Christ. We long
to grow in spiritual maturity, becoming more and
more like Jesus.
Acceptance and Support - We are a caring congregation, where all people; young or old, rich or poor,
can find hope for their life journeys.
Mission - We do not exist for ourselves alone. We
follow Jesus’ example by giving of ourselves in serving the community.
Children and Youth - All people are children of
God. We value our young people as the church of
today, as well as tomorrow.
Dignity - We believe everyone counts and is gifted by
God.

November is here, and we’ll turn our attention toward the Thanksgiving season and start anticipating some holiday time with friends and family. While the Thanksgiving season may not be a
particular church holiday, there’s no arguing the fact that Thanksgiving is a wonderful part of
the year and a good chance for us to reflect on the bounty that surrounds us here in Alabaster.
Hopefully, that reflection will spur us on to respond in generous, loving ways to God and
neighbor as we consider God’s care and providence toward us.
Advent is soon to come. The word Advent means "coming"
or "arrival." Advent is the beginning of the Church Year and a time of anticipation and preparation. It begins on the
fourth Sunday before Christmas Day and ends on Christmas
Eve. The beginning of Advent is a time for Chrismons, the
hanging of the green, decoration of the church with poinsettias
or evergreen wreaths, boughs, plants, or trees that help to
symbolize the new and everlasting life brought through Jesus.
During this season of Advent we will have many beautiful
customs and opportunities for fellowship, worship, and
communion with each other to prepare for Christmas, and
everyone is invited to take part .
On Sunday, November 18, at 4pm the Discipleship Committee is sponsoring a Pre-Advent Intergenerational event with fun activities and crafts for everyone to do together. A good time of fellowship as we learn and make items for Advent.
Welcome in the Advent Season on December 2 (1st Sunday of Advent) at the annual Hanging Of
The Greens Service at 6:30pm. At this service we will adorn the church for the Advent/Christmas season.
On December 9 ,the Children’s Christmas Program will be presented. We appreciate the work
that Renee puts into the children’s programs throughout the year and all the work the children
put into the Christmas Performance. The Taste of Christmas gathering will be in the Fellowship
Hall after the Children’s Program. Everyone is encouraged to bring a Christmas “finger food” or
dessert to share!
The Fellowship Supper for December will be the annual Christmas Dinner which will be held
on December 12. Our 2012 dinner hosts are the Harnish & Gillis shepherd groups.
On Sunday, December 16 at 6:30PM come listen to the beautiful music of the season in the
Christmas Cantata performed by our chancel choir in the Sanctuary.Jeannie, our musicians, and
the choirs always create a wonderful program –the love and work put into it shows.
We will celebrate the fourth Sunday of Advent, December 23, with the Lessons and Carols Service at 6:30pm in the Sanctuary.
On December 24 will be the candlelight Christmas Eve /Communion Service. When everyone
surrounds the sanctuary only lit by candlelight and begins singing “Silent Night,” you can truly feel
the Christmas spirit.
And, none of that includes the routine activities and events that take place daily and weekly!!
As always, there is a lot of stuff going on around FPCA. Anytime we are together as a family of
God is a good time.
