eyes. The intensity of UV radiation increases by 20 percent per 1000 meters of elevation gain
and water or snow-covered areas reflect light almost without any loss in radiation intensity.
The eyes, just like the skin, can suffer sunburn (also known as snow blindness).
That’s why eye protection, not only in sports but in any outdoor activity,
is becoming more and more important.

Leonardo da Vinci was one of the prime fathers who pulled their knowledge out of nature and transferred them into technical development. The winners of evolution have inspired us. What is the road
to success? For the key products of the 2014 season, ALPINA looked for such unique structures and
translated their ‘generic code’ into helmet constructions according to the motto ‘analyzed,
decoded, transferred.’

PRODUCTION AND
DEVELOPMENT
From the first brushstroke through to the finished
products “made in Germany” – that’s Alpina. Behind the
scenes, every production step shows that the work on
our protective gear is carried out with careful attention to
detail and state-of-the-art technologies. And you can feel
it when wearing our products. Two years pass between
the first sketch and the finished product – time that is
necessary to plan and optimize our products down to the
smallest detail.
Product drawings serve as the basis for
initial hand-made mock-ups from cast
resin, which are subsequently scanned
for digitalization. The resulting threedimensional CAD data of the glasses
are then fine-tuned and optimized
in every detail.

TECHNOLOGIES
Whether they’re worn while running, hiking, biking, sailing or golfing, in a café
or at the zoo, glasses have to perfectly fit and not cause discomfort. This is
essential to wearing pleasure. Alpina technologies are responsible for glasses
that adapt to the shape of the head and nose in a way that may even make
the wearer forget that the glasses are still on his or her nose. Exactly this is
the aim! In achieving it, Alpina attaches great value to the further
development of shapes, designs and technologies that
satisfy today’s consumer needs and expectations.
OPTIMIZED
AIRFLOW
Heavily curved lenses in combination with indirect air flow
ensure draft- and fog-free vision even in fast outdoor sports.
TWIST
FIT NOSE
Good sports glasses have an adjustment system for any
nose shape and width. Like TWIST FIT NOSE – with a mechanism for stepless rotation inside the nose pad.

Technology
ADJUSTABLE
INCLINATION
Thanks to adjustable temples the glasses can be tilted
away from the forehead in sweat-inducing uphill climbs.
Downhill, tilting them toward the forehead reduces draft.
MULTILENS
All TRI glasses have three different lenses on board:
a clear one for bad weather, an orange one for diffuse,
low-contrast visibility and a dark one for sunshine.
TWIST FIX
A mechanism that makes it easier to change the lens due
to movable side parts that lock in to hold the glass in place.
VENTING LENS
Vents between the upper frame and the lens ensure non-fogged vision at all times even in sweat-inducing sports.

TECHNOLOGIES
A lens has to meet numerous demands.
In addition to providing UV protection, it should look good and be functional.
Alpina has continually subjected its lenses to further development and
combined a wealth of highly functional lens technologies with
trendy color combinations in the collection.
HOW DOES VARIOFLEX WORK?
Varioflex is a lens technology that causes the lenses to
change their tint depending on the weather. During the
production process, so called indolinospironaphthoxazine
(ISN) compounds are added to the plastic lenses. As a
result, the self-tinting lenses react to UV light in the same
way our skin does. When exposed to UV light radiation the
ISN “pigments” open up and produce the darkening effect.
Conversely, when the UV light decreases, the lenses
become brighter again. This happens in a matter of
seconds and provides you with glasses that adjust to
continually changing light conditions.
WHAT IS QUATTROFLEX?
Quattroflex is the Alpina technology that blocks light
radiation depending on polarization, allowing only rays
from direct light sources to penetrate the lens –
reflections from water surfaces or glaring snow
landscapes are thus blocked. Quattroflex enhances
contrasts and gives the wearer a more authentic
sensation of vision.
WHAT DOES FOGSTOP DO?
Fogstop is a coating on the inside of the lenses. The
coating is not smooth but rough, even “fissured” on a
microscopic level. As a result, the drops have no chance of
forming a cohesive layer, in other words to fog and to blur
the wearer’s vision. This would only happen if the moisture managed to fill the fissures with water. Before this
happens, the deposited moisture condenses and vision
remains clear.

TWIST FIX
TRI-SCRAY’s new lens change mechanism
works by clicking on a small lever at the temple
joint and pulling the lens down
to extract it.
ADJUSTABLE INCLINATION
Inclinable temples optimize adjustment.
Tilting the glasses toward the forehead keeps
out draft. Tilting them away from the forehead
improves ventilation and prevents lens fogging.
OPTIMIZED AIRFLOW
Heavily curved lenses perfectly wrap around
the face. They protect the eyes from draft and
cold and improve vision. The indirect air flow
prevents fogging of the lenses.
VENTING LENS
SIDE PROTECTION
Covers embedded in the frame
prevent eye damage due to scattered light
entering from the sides on glaciers and
at high altitudes in the mountains.
HEADBAND INCLUSIVE
Vent holes in the lens channel the air flow
to the right places and assure back ventilation
of the lens for effective fogging prevention.
These glasses come with a strap for additional
retention or for hanging them around the neck.

adjustment to any nasal width and shape.
Nose pads with an adjustment mechanism
for stepless rotation individually adapt to

CHANGING LENS SYSTEM
Women or teenagers often have very slim
faces. ALPINA offers the right type of sports
sunglasses for these customer groups
as well.

FOGSTOP coating of the lenses effectively
prevents fogging.
The combination of a hard frame and soft
rubber Parts enhances wearing comfort
and ﬁt of the glasses.
Changeable lenses prepare you for any lighting
condition. Dark lenses are suitable for intense
sunlight and orange lenses are ideal for diffuse
light, overcast skies, dawn and dusk. While
clear lenses absorb virtually no light at all
they do offer comprehensive protection against
UV radiation, wind, dust and insects. All
changeable lenses come in a case together with
the glasses.

Glasses with flexible frame are very robust.
Due to that those frames are mainly used
for junior glasses.

entering from the sides on glaciers and
at high altitudes in the mountains.
OPTICAL GLAZING
Sports frames with the option of corrective
lenses with direct glazing that are customised
specially by the optician to suit the individual
wearer. This glazing offers the wearer perfect
vision ¬− both during sport and when they‘re
carrying out everyday activities. With direct
glazing, the corrective lenses are inserted
directly into the frame. The glazing spectrum for
the most powerful lenses generally ranges from
approx. -4.0 dpt to +4.0 dpt.
