Plus, it’s an ideal dessert to make a day or two ahead. To be sure you’re using the freshest berries, you’ll want to choose fruit that has bounce in it. Or you can put it to the water test. Small pockets of air trapped in fresh cranberries make them bounce — and float in water. RECIPE INGREDIENTS: 9-inch chocolate crumb pie shell 2 cups vanilla ice cream, softened 1 cup canned whole-berry cranberry sauce 1 tablespoon orange juice 2 cups whipped topping 2 tablespoons sliced almonds, toasted 1. Chill the pie shell in the freezer while you prepare the filling. 2. Place the softened ice cream, cranberry sauce, and orange juice in a large bowl and stir with a wooden spoon until the ingredients are well blended. 3. Spoon the filling into the chilled shell and freeze the pie until firm (4 hours or more). Next, spread the whipped topping over the ice cream layer and sprinkle on the almonds. Cover the pie and return it to the freezer. Allow the pie to stand at room temperature for 20 minutes before slicing it. Serves 8. Krista’s Christmas Snowflakes Rudolph Cupcake RECIPE INGREDIENTS: 1 Box Christmas Capt Crunch Cereal 1 Large can Chow Mein noodles 2 packages White Almond Bark 1 cup peanuts (optional) RECIPE INGREDIENTS: A cooled cupcake (baked from your favorite recipe) Chocolate frosting Round, red lollipops (we used a Blow Pop) M&M’s candies Black decorators’ gel frosting Pretzels Red shoestring licorice 1. Mix cereal & noodles (peanuts optional) in large bowl. 1. To make one, first frost a cooled cupcake (baked from your favorite recipe) with chocolate frosting. 2. Melt almond bark per directions. Pour over mixture. Mix well. 2. Unwrap a round, red lollipop (we used a Blow Pop), trim the stem slightly, and stick it into the center of the cupcake for Rudolph’s very shiny nose. 3. Spoon mixture one tbsp at a time onto wax paper. 4. Allow 30 minutes to set. Enjoy! 4 CONNECTIONS | www.CContheWeb.com Your family will shout with glee at the sight of this fun and simple treat —a cupcake fashioned after a certain Christmas Eve sleigh guide. 3. For eyes, set 2 M&M’s candies in place, then dot them with black decorators’ gel frosting. Carefully break large thin pretzels into antler shapes (this may take some practice!) and insert them into the top of the cupcake. Finally, add a short piece of red shoestring licorice for a mouth. Event Information E-Mail: [email protected] 904-268-2500 What I wrote is a concert that tells a story. There’s no speaking—only songs, some of which are intimate, some epic, some humorous, all with a purpose, which is to convey the true tall tale of the coming of God into the world. What makes this bunch of songs unique is that I wanted to remind (or teach) the audience that the story of Christmas doesn’t begin with the birth of Jesus. Many people tend to forget or have never even learned that the entire Bible is about Jesus, not just the New Testament. So the musical begins with Moses and the symbolic story of the Passover (Passover Us) and works its way through the kings and the prophets with their many prophecies about the coming Messiah (So Long, Moses) to the awful four hundred years of silence before God told Mary she’d be having a baby (Deliver Us). After the song called Matthew’s Begats, which lists the genealogy of Jesus, the story picks up in more familiar territory with Mary and Joseph and the actual birth (It Came To Pass, Labor of Love). The final song is called Behold, the Lamb of God, which ties together the Passover and the beauty and scope of the story…” – Andrew Peterson Come together with your family to celebrate t h e h e a rt o f Christmas at Christ’s Church Fleming Island The journey begins with live Christmas music indoors followed by a guided tour through the Nativity outdoors. Enjoy the petting zoo, hot chocolate and fellowship afterwards. A little over two years ago, God took a few committed people and has since used them to bring hope and healing to an ever growing group of CR participants here at Christ’s Church. This includes really awesome programming for kids through teens. Two years ago, there were only two Celebrate Recovery ministries in Jacksonville. Now, there are 14 established ministries all over the surrounding area. The CR ministry here has been a support to the other CR ministries and has created a network to bring the message of Jesus Christ and the hope we have in Him to people who are ready to get honest with their struggles and allow God to really help them deal with the source of their issues. We invite you to check out this exciting ministry that could radically change your life. Come catch the WAVE that God is using to bring healing and hope to all who are ready to accept it. Our program this year promises to transport you to a truly wondrous and magical realm – not the North Pole, but the very throne of God. Along the way we will share some festive family fun, singing Christmas carols old and new, and enjoying all the trimmings and trappings of the season. Your heart will be refreshed and renewed as we worship together before the manger of Bethlehem, and your spirit will soar as we look forward to the day when He will return in all His glory to take us home. Featuring the Christ’s Church Choir and Worship Band, with full orchestra, children’s choirs, dancers, singers, shepherds and wise men, you will be blessed by this musical and spiritual journey! Four services will be offered in Mandarin: 2:30, 4:00, 6:00 and 7:30 p.m. Fleming Island Service times: 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. DON’T MISS OUT ON THIS GREAT BLESSING. The Christmas For Kids ministry is our way of making Acts 20:35 come alive – ““It is more blessed to give than to receive.” This year we will provide and deliver Christmas gifts to over 1300 financially-needy individuals who live in the Jacksonville community, and beyond. In addition to almost 800 local children, our program will include 200 refugee family members recently housed in Jacksonville, over 300 local homebound elderly adults, and 100 children affiliated with our missionary programs. In order to connect with the most needy individuals in our community, Christ’s Church has partnered with 19 local agencies and organizations that provide the wish lists of each individual we sponsor. Among those agencies is a home for developmentally-disabled teens, inner-city missions, children’s hospitals, an elementary school, foster care homes, and a group that works with terminally ill children. The highlight of the Christmas for Kids program is always Delivery Day. If you have not experienced the joy of delivering gifts, we encourage you to join us on Saturday, December 8th, at 9am. After a brief time of instruction and prayer, hundreds of Christ’s Church members will scatter across our city to be bearers of tangible examples of God’s love. This is an experience for every member of the family – from kids to grandparents! Don’t miss out on this great blessing. GIFT DROP OFF DATES Sun., Dec. 2nd: 4pm to 8pm (both campuses) Mon., Dec. 3rd: 5pm to 8pm (Mandarin campus) Mon., Dec. 3rd: 6pm to 8 pm (Fleming Island campus) GIFT DELIVERY DAY Sat., Dec. 8th: 9am (both campuses) www.CContheWeb.com | CONNECTIONS 7 On October 21st, more than 2300 volunteers from Christ’s Church spread out across Jacksonville to share the love of Christ in a tangible, practical way. Individuals, families and small groups worked together at more than 100 service projects, both small and large. From a handful of volunteers playing Bingo with senior residents at Elmcroft Assisted Living, to hundreds of volunteers serving together at the 57 acre campus of Florida Baptist Childrens Home, Christ’s Church participants had one thing in common—a big smile! ‘The Church has left the building’… I absolutely LOVE how our church has encouraged all of us to put our faith in to action and ‘Be the Church’! DEBBIE LINDELL Blitz Day The stories and pictures keep pouring in! Over and over, we’re hearing from those who were immeasurably blessed by serving others. We’re also hearing from local mission organizations whose words express much more than a simple thanks, but rather a heartfelt gratitude that communicates that our members made a significant and long-lasting impact—both for their organizations, their residents, and the community around them. For some, their tears of thanks said it best. 8 CONNECTIONS | www.CContheWeb.com Many families and small groups have already made plans to follow up with the organization or recipient family and continue connecting with them or serving again sometime soon…or even on a regular basis. That’s what our Faith In Action series was all about—helping us to experience the joy of serving others while jumpstarting a life of Christian service beyond a one-day event! “It was such a blessing to be unified and focused towards a common goal.” MELINDA FURLONG Faith In Action—What’s Next? Information about “holiday service opportunities” is now available through your small group leader, and can also be obtained from the Christ’s Church Faith In Action web site. Our next all-church service opportunity is already under way! Christmas For Kids, now in it’s 18th year, has become a tradition at Christ’s Church. “We want to continue serving the needs of others as the hands and feet of Jesus!” DON PHILLIPS www.CContheWeb.com | CONNECTIONS 9 The Blitz Day at the ARC Jacksonville was great! Everyone had a great time and our buildings and grounds are picture perfect. Probably the best result was the interaction and new friendship developed between church volunteers, group home residents, and ARC staff. Again Thank You! After we left church on Blitz Day, we went to BB's. Armed with rakes, trash bags, lawn mower, gas can, and wearing our "Christs Church" shirts, we were ready to get to work! ANGIE JIM WHITTAKER “There aren't words to describe how special the faith in action blitz day was to me and my family.“ THE WATSONS 10 CONNECTIONS | www.CContheWeb.com “Our blitz at the St. Andrews Lighthouse on Sunday did wonders to unite our small group of 14 along with 3 other blitz day volunteers.“ “Words can not adequately describe my feelings for you and all the members of your church for what they did for us. I was truly in awe and had tears in my eyes too many times to mention.” BOB NICKLIN CAROL GINZIQ Treasure Tuesdays | Women’s Enrichment Ministry I am always surprised when I assume that women in our church know all that is happening with Women’s Ministry only to find out that they didn’t know our church even had a ministry for women. It seems to me that our team goes overboard to get the word out about what we offer. What I have learned is that all that advertising is not what brings women into the fold of “WE”. As a matter of fact, recently I was asked what “WE” means. It was then that I realized that while I think I am reaching out, the fact is that I was really only reaching in. Women that are involved in one of the many offerings that are part of Women’s ministry know that “WE” stands for Women’s Enrichment – but what about those women who are walking through our doors for the first time, what about those women who are searching the internet looking for a women’s program that meets their needs, what about the woman who just needs Christian friends? What are “WE” doing to reach those women? This fall, “WE” began a new offering – Treasure Tuesdays. It was designed to be a place to study God’s word, grow friendships, and to participate in a variety of classes. This was a door that I tried to close many times – to me, the task seemed too daunting with my already overbooked schedule. God had other plans and He brought to the “WE” team a great group of women who have stepped up to organize and lead Treasure Tuesdays. Classes have included Faith in Action, Beth Moore, Moving on after Moving In (for those new to the area) and For Women Only, the Bible Study. All great classes – all on Tuesdays! “WE” prays that Christmas will fill you with the perfect love of Christ and that the New Year will bring you and your family abundant blessings. The most exciting part for me is to walk up the stairs on Tuesdays and hear the voices of dozens of women in fellowship with one another. Many of these women are new to our church, to our community, and to their relationship with Jesus Christ. Whether old friendships or new, the nurturing from one to another is what God intended when He commanded us to love one another. January will bring a number of new classes to Tuesdays – the latest Beth Moore study “Stepping Up”, Single Mom’s Ministry, and the continuation of the Moving on after Moving In, just to name a few. It will also bring me less anxiety about advertising and getting the word out – these women are doing it for us. It’s becoming well known that on Tuesdays there is always an open invitation! I have learned that Treasure Tuesdays is more than just coffee and classes, it’s the reminder that the reaching out is more important than the reaching in. So, c’mon over on Tuesday – there’s two empty chairs – one for you and one for a friend! If you haven’t watched the video, be encouraged to watch it online at www.CContheWeb.com and share it with a friend. As we move from 2007 into 2008, we want to reinforce what it means to say “I AM Christ’s Church.” It’s more than a statement that says you are a member of this congregation. It’s a statement that says you are a member of God’s family. When we say “I AM Christ’s Church” we are saying that we are following Jesus. We’re not saying we have it all figured out. We’re not saying we’re perfect. We’re simply saying we realize our lives have purpose and through Christ we can achieve all things. As you go about your day, remember that YOU ARE CHRIST’S CHURCH and because of that you are loved. Share that love with others by letting your actions speak louder than your words. Many times those who don’t know Jesus will look to see Him in you. It expands past our walls and moves into the community where we live, where we work, and were we interact – doing life together. www.CContheWeb.com | CONNECTIONS 19 Non-Profit Org.
