Arrive an hour early and shop at Bullwinkel's antique store across the street. I’m sure you will find some treasures you can’t live without! Tell them C22 sent you!!! Don’t forget your cameras!! The ETI Jim Hester Ride April 26-28 will be held at Black Rock Canyon at Joshua Tree. So lets show Lori our support an join her. Be sure and let her know if you will be attending her ride. The ETI Spring Ride June 9 -14 will be at Cuyamaca. Don’t cancel the Inspiration Point Ride just yet!! Our VP, Kathleen Ungamrung may lead it. Susan Jackson is not available this year to Trail Boss the ride. Cheri was a longtime member of Corral 22, a wonderful horsewoman and a dear friend to many. Twenty-five riders set off from Rose Bowl Riders located in the Lower Hahamonga Watershed Park in Pasadena for a three hour ride. The weather was perfect - clear and sunny but not too hot. We rode the Flint Canyon Trail which takes you along the Arroyo, through the beautiful residential areas of La Canada, onto Cherry Canyon Trail, up to Liz's Loop and stopped at Ultimate Destination for a toast to Cheri Blue and Liz Blackwelder. When we returned to RBR, thirty guests enjoyed a tasty brunch of scrambled eggs, omelets, bacon, sausage, potatoes, various fruit and pastries, orange juice and coffee. Our 50/50 drawing was won by member Antoinette Dohmen. Many thanks to Lea Tanasale for setting up the clubhouse and receiving the catered food and quite a few 22er's that helped Kat and I clean-up the clubhouse. I was trail boss and my partner in crime, Kathleen Ungamrung, was drag rider. We would like to extend a special thanks to Rose Bowl Riders for donating the use of their facility for this event every year. Cheri was also a RBR member and would have been thrilled that we honored her memory there. The recent storm had cleared out a lot of dust, leaving great footing and filling the numerous water crossings with fresh water that the horses enjoyed. A total of 17 riders headed out, including several non- members who are thinking of joining our group. We rode for several miles through easy dirt trails, crossing the river several times and many riders noted how nice the crossing were, with good footing, green grass along the banks and beautiful trees for shade. The trail started uphill and proved to be a good workout for the mounts before we got to a resting place by some houses and allowed the horses to rest a few minutes before continuing to the next hill, which was steeper. We kept a steady pace and were soon rewarded with a cool breeze and a panoramic view of Thousand Oaks. Our horses quickly recovered from the climb and we proceeded down through a housing area and across a road, then worked our way down a gentle descent through scrub oaks for several miles down into another valley, following the river to the waterfall where we stopped for a minute to let some of the riders walk over to see. There were groups of hikers along the way and several mountain bikers, all of whom were very friendly and considerate- a real pleasure to share trails with such nice people! About 5 minutes from the falls was a large, shady picnic area, complete with hitching posts, barbecues, picnic tables and even bathrooms with flushing toilets and fresh water faucets- pretty fancy for the middle of the woods! Everyone enjoyed the company (and the amenities), then we mounted up for the last leg of the ride, which was only 45 minutes before reaching home base. We quickly passed by the rather noisy water treatment plant and walked for about ¼ mile along an access road then picked up our old trail back. All the equines and humans had a lot of fun and enjoyed gorgeous weather and great company. Thanks to Paul Jacques for leading the ride and to everyone who participated! In previous years, we have always taken advantage of their buffet menu but this time we mixed it up. Instead, we sampled the set course menu, which actually turned out to be much better! As usual, folks wandered throughout the park visiting the infield’s BBQ contest or the horse stalls and the club house. Others took advantage of the private betting and helped their friends learn the system! All in all – it was another wildly successful afternoon and we look forward to doing it again in 2015.
