The Fiber Palm Story.
The Fiber Palm Story.
More than 15 years ago Fiber Roofing extruded and made its first Fiber Reed Synthetic Tile. When we started with
the Synthetic Tiles we had manufactured and sold more than 1 million Cape Reed Tiles worldwide and the recipe to
embed Cape Reed stalks into a Polyurethane strip had been perfected.
The same tested method that had been used to embed the Cape Reed stalks into the Polyurethane backing strip we
used to embed the Polypropylene round extruded mono-phi laments.
The Fiber Synthetic Reed tiles were sold via the Fiber distributor network and as “partners” together a first project
let to another to another until the Fiber Reed Synthetic Tiles became the first choice on projects across the globe for
architects and resort developers.
Due to the unbelievable success of the Fiber Reed Synthetic tiles worldwide Fiber Roofing was approached to
develop Synthetic palm thatch. This demand and clear market need let to Fiber Roofing developing the Fiber Palm
tile.
Using this proven recipe the Fiber Palm tile was developed.
We used the same polypropylene formulation that was so successful used for the round reed particles that have
been in the market and have stood the test of time for more than 15 years. The Polyurethane binding strip has been
in the market and tested for more than 25 years and with the larger binding surface the particles glued even better.
It was a challenge to develop a tile that could work as a replacement of the Cape Reed Tiles because gazebos and
umbrellas are for many of our agents still the bread and butter of their businesses.
Different areas in the world wanted different leave shapes and colours.
Some agents or clients wanted a new fresh look while some wanted an old weathered look.
Some wanted the eaves to be thick while others wanted a drooping tropical finish.
It literally took years but today we have a range of colours and types that are of the most comprehensive in the
world. We are also the only company that can and will change colours and types until the client is 100 percent
happy.
After we had the perfect tile still nothing was taken for granted. The Fiber Palm tiles were again tested for quality,
durability, wind uplift, UV and fire rating. Numerous times colours and the shapes of the extruded leaves were
changed and refined until perfect copies of the different type of Palm leaves were matched.
During 2015 the company’s capability was tested when Chester Zoo in the UK required thatch to be matched with
the natural material being used from many different parts of the world. Fiber Roofing was the one stop
manufacturer that could supply tiles to match all the various types of natural materials.
When the architects of Keldi in France wanted Fiber Synthetic Thatch to match Makuti Thatch, Fiber Roofing
matched the Fiber Palm Tiles with the real thing. This resulted in the Limba and Twiga resorts being done in the
Congo.
In 2015 the AL Bahar Refurbishment of the luxury villas at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel for the Jumeirah group in Dubai
was done. Because of the prestige value of the project every synthetic tile manufacturer went for the project.
When the Ruler of Dubai, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum GBE, also known as Sheikh Mohammed announced
that Dubai will be building the biggest entertainment park in the world, Fiber Palm was the material chosen for the
Marriot Flagship Lapita Hotel complex in the resort.
This project was won by one of our smallest agents. The manager Mr. Saideepak Gopinath introduced our product
and did the first mock up. When it got to technical Danie flew to Dubai to help. The customer insisted on a factory
visit and then went to inspect work we did 5 years ago for the Royal Family of Saudi Arabia. Only then the project
was awarded. (Below the first phase of the project)
Bollywood Dubai and Lego-land Dubai, also part of the Dubai Parks complex also chose Fiber Roofing Synthetic
Thatch for their respective thatch themed needs.
Today Fiber Palm is sold in every country of the world with the list of completed projects getting longer and longer.
