2014-2015 Annual Report
2014-2015 Annual Report Our Mission: Assistance League of San Antonio is a nonprofit volunteer organization that develops and implements programs to benefit children and adults in the San Antonio Area. A LETTER FROM OUR PRESIDENT Our very active nonprofit organization, one of Assistance League’s 120 chapters throughout the United States with over 450 members, has had another year of success in our attempts to serve the needs of San Antonio residents. During the fiscal year 2014-2015 our philanthropic programs – eight administered by our chapter and two by our Bexar Hugs Auxiliary – helped a total of 70,239 children and adults, some of them more than once. All of the 70,121 hours of work spent on our programs were accomplished wholly by volunteers. Our efforts were financed by grants, donations, two fundraisers (Treasures at Twilight Gala and Lit ‘n Lunch, a book/author luncheon), a donation-bymail project, and income from our Thrift House, our wellstocked resale store – allowing us to give back over $560,000 to the San Antonio community. As enthusiastic participants in community affairs, on Make a Difference Day we collected over 7,000 books which we distributed to several local agencies. We partnered with Barnes & Noble during their Holiday Book Drive to receive 2,381 children’s books purchased and donated to Togs For Tots and Operation School Bell®. Our Fiesta activities included the Pilgrimage to the Alamo and the Battle of Flowers parade (in a decorated antique car). We are tremendously grateful to all the donors, customers, member and nonmember helpers, and organizations who supported our mission this year in so many important ways and contributed to our success in reaching the children and adults who need us. THANK YOU! Thanks and greatly appreciated forever.” “Thank you for telling us about how not to talk to strangers and safety because if it wasn’t for you I would’ve got into a stranger car and play the computer video games.” Board of Directors, 2014-2015 President President-Elect VP Philanthropic VP Resource Development Molly Pruitt Marcia Lehman Diane Branche Nancy Fast Cessie Sanchez VP Membership Gwynn Kemmerzehl VP Public Relations Shelia Klein Treasurer Denise Foust Recording Secretary Nancy McBrine Corresponding Secretary Sandy Boyd Bylaws Chairman Carolyn Clark Strategic Planning Gene Willis Chapter Liaison to Auxiliary Nancy Avery Finance Chairman Becky Brockway Education Chairman Priscilla Allen Parliamentarian Barbara Wright Jan Ramert Chapter Advisory Council, 2014-2015 Mr. John Schmutz, Chairman Mr. Doug Cross Mr. Bjorn Dybdahl Mr. Robert Elizondo Mr. Mike Gribble Dr. Yvonne Katz, PhD Ms. Nancy Lipton Dr. Belinda Pustka, PhD Mr. Todd Rasco The Honorable Susan Reed We thank these dedicated members of the San Antonio community for their support and advice.
