After seeing the success of Barkitecture in the US, where designer doghouses
are built and auctioned off with proceeds going to charity, I wondered why
we couldn’t something similar here and so I organized the first Homes with
Woofs event that raised $ 10,000 for the Ottawa Humane Society. Two years
later, here we are again! This time proceeds will go to Bee Meadow Farm, a
magical place where over 100 animals, both rescued and adopted, thrive and
live together, thanks to the loving care of Natalie Rowe and Gordon Campbell.
A group of talented craftspeople (including students at Algonquin College)
have built,and donated the most amazing doghouses. We received silent
auction donations of everything you can imagine, from customized pet
portraits and children’s bedding to wine tours and tastings, even two nights at
Tremblant!
Chloe Benoit did all our graphic design work; Mario Carlucci took care
ofmedia. Shawn McGregor and Dotti McNeil helped me, Natalie, and Gordon
with organization details and general running around. A huge shout out to
all our volunteers and donors, and all of those of you bought and sold raffle
tickets or volunteered to lend a hand. And of course, a huge thanks to Natalie
and Gordon for their enthusiastic support and promotion.
So happy tail wags to all of you! We hope you have as much fun at Homes
with Woofs on June 18th as we did putting things together.

A word from Natalie Rowe
about Bee Meadow Farm
We are grateful and happy to host the “Homes with Woofs”
fundraiser at our farm, with all the proceeds going to help our
collection of rescue animals. In addition, Gordon and I are working
on charitable status for our rescue endeavours so that eventually we
can issue tax receipts. We would like to have an educational slant
our charitable project, to complement our existing relationship with
the Ontario SPCA Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Animal Centre in
Cornwall.
We don’t want to become an actual animal refuge, because we
have a limit on the amount of animals we can care for here (coff,
coff BABY GOATS coff, coff) and we’re almost at that limit, and we
usually adopt our animals from the SD&G OSPCA in Cornwall; it’s
not our goal to become a shelter, or to compete with the existing
one for funds. Gordon and I both volunteer for the SD&G OSPCA,
and will continue to do so for as long as they’ll have us.
So if you want to come out to the farm on Saturday, June 18th,
there will be lots of fun things going on, including an auction of
beautiful one-of-a-kind dog houses, some kitty items, and a silent
auction, plus some food. I’m sure Henry the pig will be out and
about, reminding everyone he is not actually a pig but a human
being, and what is he doing with all these other pigs anyway?! As well, we’re renaming the farm “Bee Meadow Farm” and having
a new farm sign made. Having one that says “Big Angus McDonald
Family Farm” only confuses delivery people! That said, everyone
around here will no doubt continue calling it Big Angus McDonald
Farm until the end of time.

Sloppy Kisses to our Celebrity Judges!
Two celebrity judges will be awarding ribbons at our June 12 event for the most creative
doghouse, the most eco-friendly doghouse, the most luxurious doghouse, best re-use
of recycled materials, and best in show (although our judges tend to make up their own
categories and that’s fine too!)
Media celebrity Carol Anne Meehan is a huge dog lover.
We were thrilled when she said she’d love to be a judge;
we’re delighted to have her!
Alan Neal, CBC host of All in a Day, will be helping
Carol Anne decide who gets what ribbons.
We don’t envy them; this competition is tough,
thanks to the brilliant job our doghouse builders
have done (they’re all winners!)

Live Auction - Rules
• To bid, you need to register and get a bidder’s paddle. When you want to place a bid on an item,
wave your paddle to attract the auctioneer’s attention. Be sure to hang onto your paddle; you’ll
need the number on it when you pay for your item.
• All sales are final and items are sold “as is.”
• We have made every effort to describe donated items as accurately as possible, but be sure to
know what you are buying. Values of goods and services stated in the catalogue are estimates
only; actual items may not be as described. Some of the items in the live auction catalogue may
end up as silent auction items and vice-versa.
• The highest bidder will win unless a reserve bid has been stated and isn’t met.
• You will need to remove your item before the event ends unless you’ve made other express
arrangements with us.(We can store and deliver some of the doghouses depending on where
they need to be transported; in a few other cases, the builder will make those arrangements.)
• Pay for your items before you leave. We accept MasterCard, Visa and American Express and
personal cheques. We’re even happier to take cash.

for Coverz. She was often underwhelmed at

This classic design was made by students
in the Building Construction Technicians
program at Algonquin College and isn’t it
a beauty? The plywood interior and front
and back is a Luan ½” plywood. The sides
are made with a Canexel product trimmed
in knotty pine. The roof is standard 3 tab
asphalt shingle.

LOG CABIN BEAUTY!
Harken back to Ontario’s pioneer days with
this charming, rustic, log-cabin dog house
complete with chinking! Luc Lavoie has
created a shelter inspired by the many log
homes dotting the green fields of Glengarry.
The antique boards used in the creation of
the doghouse come from the barn at Bee
Meadow farm.

back this year with a “green roofed” planttopped doghouse plus a gazebo! So far, all

after the Live Auction is over)
• Print your name and the amount of your bid clearly in the appropriate space on the bidding
sheet. We have to be able to read it!
• Don’t move silent auction items. If you want to see something a little more closely, ask one of our
volunteers for help. Please don’t touch electronic items or open our gift baskets.
• Actual gift certificates are not on display. If you’re the high bidder, we’ll provide them to you
at the time of payment. Restrictions may apply to some; be sure to read the terms of your gift
certificate(s) carefully.
• When the silent auction is over, the highest bid on each bid sheet will be declared the winner.

2007, she studied at New York University,

striking work is called Apis Regina – Ermine
Portrait. It is a 12″x12″, oil and collage on
