oarsman Hugh Stevenson traded a pair
of blue jeans to acquire an experimental
jacket from a Soviet rower. Recognizing

At the Montreal Olympics in 1976
Stevenson launched the “Stevenson
Weathershirt” on the backs of US
National Rowing Team. This improved
prototype was rainproof, highly ventilated
and more durable than its Soviet
predecessor. It also featured the first
orbital shoulder gusset which allows for
the freedom of movement while rowing.
The Stevenson Weathershirt has been
used ever since by athletes worldwide.
