M es sa ge fr om Ex ec ut iv e Di re ct or 2014 is coming to an end and we are planning ahead. Christian Action recently submitted a paper to the Equal Opportunity Commission (EOC) in response to its public consultation on Discrimination Law Review. The modification of the antidiscrimination ordinances will impact every citizen in Hong Kong, including and especially ethnic minorities. Ethnic minorities generally have a difficult time integrating with the Hong Kong community. Many face regular racial discrimination Mrs. Cheung-Ang in their employment and education. We agree with the principal Siew Mei, JP mentioned under the ordinance that “the provisions regarding protection from discrimination should be harmonized upwards to the same levels”. We would like the government to align the new ordinance with the International Covenant of Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and the Convention against Torture (CAT). The government still has a lot of work to do when it comes to protecting the rights of ethnic minorities in Hong Kong. While they tackle this complex issue, Christian Action will continue with our work, building bridges and breaking down barriers between ethnic minorities and local Chinese, creating community and harmony in society. Wishing you a joyful Christmas and a wonderful new year ahead! So ci al Re so ur ce s Co rn er The Equal Opportunities Commission is reviewing all of the discrimination laws to consider how they can be improved to better prevent discrimination and promote equality for everyone in Hong Kong. Currently there are 4 anti-discrimination ordinances: The Sex Discrimination Ordinance (the “SDO”), The Disability Discrimination Ordinance (the “DDO”), The Family Status Discrimination Ordinance (the “FSDO”) and The Racial Discrimination Ordinance (the “RDO”) For more information, please refer to http://www.eocdlr.org.hk/en/index.html?f=s&c=white 2 Pr og ra m m e H ig hl ig ht s Badminton To activate the elderly and build up a strong relationship.
