Saga Ceramics Research Laboratory
Saga Ceramics Research Laboratory (SCRL) is one of the research organizations of Saga Prefectural Government, and is aimed at contributing to the development of traditional and advanced ceramics industry in Saga prefecture. SCRL located in Arita town where white porcelain was produced for the first time in Japan 400 years ago. About Saga Prefecture Land area : Population : Main Industry : 2,439.67km² 835,794 Agriculture, Marine Products, Food Processing, Ceramics … etc. Jun./1/2014 Pottery & Porcelain in Saga Prefecture : about 430 companies Arita Ware & Imari Ware Arita and Imari are small towns located in the northwestern part of Saga Prefecture and are surrounded by scenic beauty throughout all four seasons of the year. They has been the center for the manufacture of Japanese porcelain (Arita & Imari Ware) since it first began producing porcelain in Japan 400 years ago. Old-Imari Ware Kakiemon Ware Nabeshima Ware Arita and Imari ware had been exported to Europe in the 17th century, and influenced on the first production of white porcelain in Europe, such as Meissen, Germany. The technologies are passed down for a long time, and have been linked to the development of not only the traditional porcelain but also insulator and advanced ceramics industries.
