LETTER FROM THE MANAGER
Dear Residents,
The Parks & Recreation Department hosted a number of programs and events this summer;
I hope your family had a chance to take part in some of those programs. A special thank you
to the Hinsdale Rotarians, the parade participants, volunteers and staff for making the July 4th
Parade a memorable event. To see photos of the July 4th Parade and Festival and other Village
events, visit the Village’s Park and Recreation Facebook page.
Upcoming events this fall include the Fall Festival, Holiday Express and Breakfast with Santa. For
more details about these events visit the department’s web site.
Take a moment and review the brochure; new offerings are available including programs that
are offered in conjunction with The Community House, Westmont, Burr Ridge and Clarendon
Hills Park Districts. Staff hopes that you’ll find activities that will be of interest. If you have a
program idea or would like to see a new offering, please reach out and let us know!

MUSIC TOGETHER WITH TINY TOES MUSIC
Music Together is an internationally acclaimed, research based
program that utilizes mixed-age classes to foster natural, familystyle learning. Infants and toddlers enjoy watching and imitating
older children, preschoolers learn by leading younger ones,
and adults are happy because the children in the family can
go to class together! Each child participates at his or her own
developmental level in singing, moving, chanting, listening,
observing, exploring, and playing musical instruments. Come
and sing and dance to the music of the Flute Collection this fall!
Registration includes audio recordings, beautiful new songbook
each semester, Parent’s Guide, and Musical Growth Chart. Infant
siblings under 9 months may attend for free and any caregiver
(parent, nanny, or grandparent) can participate in this family
music experience. For more information on our classes, visit

COMPUTER CLASSES
Be an inventor! Light and sound sensors, pulleys,
wheels, levers and gears are all at your command!
Design your machine, program it, and start it
moving. Working in small teams, students will explore with
the PicoCricket Robotic Systems and Legos to build and
experiment with robotics while using advanced sensors
including light, sound, touch and motion. Developed by MIT
Media Lab, the Pico Cricket is a tiny computer that can make
things spin, light up, and play music. You can plug lights,
motors, sensors, and other devices into a Pico Cricket, then
program them to react, interact, and communicate. This course
provides students with a great introduction to programming,
engineering and robotics. Students work in groups of 2.
Video Game Animation
Dive into the world of video game animation by creating
characters that dance, sing and interact with one another.
Add sound effects and music clips to create a dynamic
video animation using Scratch, the innovative programming
language created just for kids by MIT. Post your animation
online so that your friends, your parents, even your
grandmother can see your animation! Creativity rules in this
first step of video game design! Students work in groups of 2
and will get a copy of the software and game at the end of the
session.

YOUTH ATHLETIC PROGRAMS
Lacrosse Camp for Girls
Registration is a two-step process:
1.Register and pay at Hinsdale Parks and Recreation
Dept. in person, by mail or on-line at
villageofhinsdale.org/pr
2.Fill out the Player Information Form on iglax.org (under
the Registration tab).
The IGLA is adopting
the US Lacrosse
“players first” athlete
development
model: The right
lacrosse at the right
time, providing
every athlete the
opportunity to
enter, enjoy, and
excel. This opportunity will be made available by learning
and playing lacrosse in a way that’s best for each stage of each
athlete’s growth and development. This creates a model of
participation that provides opportunity for all, for life.
The rationale for small-sided competition is smaller players,
smaller fields. That’s the name of the game if we want to
keep kids engaged, developing their skills, and getting more
touches on the ball. We’ll see better skill development, more
enjoyment, and increased retention rates by letting the kids
play the right way.
Ready to start lacrosse? Join IGLA this Fall for a weekly one
hour clinic exclusively for 1st and 2nd Grade girls who want to
learn the fundamentals of the game. The goals of this program
are to introduce and develop basic skills using fun games and
coaching techniques. IGLA will use soft balls so only a stick is
required to play. A parent meeting will be held after the first
clinic. After registering for this program, please go to www.
iglax.org and fill out a player information form.
