Ovation® Instruments
GAC has expanded upon the legendary Henry W. General
Instrument design by including the recommendations of
Dr. Ronald Roth, the world famous authority on clinical
orthodontics, and “Big John” Desautels, recognized by
many as the foremost authority on instrument design,
function, and manufacture. These three “legends” have
come together to create a remarkable line of orthodontic
instruments.
The realization of this outstanding new design required the
finest German and American stainless steel fashioned to
the most exacting standards. The handles are fatter and
wider for greater comfort, and the heads are curved to
avoid irritation to soft tissue. The result is an instrument
with a quality you can feel upon first grip; quality so
exceptional that it has redefined orthodontic hand tools.
Ovation Instruments. The very best. Only from GAC.

Ovation® Instruments
GAC has expanded upon the legendary Henry W. General
Instrument design by including the recommendations of
Dr. Ronald Roth, the world famous authority on clinical
orthodontics, and “Big John” Desautels, recognized by many
as the foremost authority on instrument design, function, and
manufacture. These three “legends” have come together to
create a remarkable line of orthodontic instruments.
The realization of this outstanding new design required the
finest German and American stainless steel fashioned to the
most exacting standards. The handles are fatter and wider
for greater comfort, and the heads are curved to avoid
irritation to soft tissue. The result is an instrument with a
quality you can feel upon first grip; quality so exceptional
that it has redefined orthodontic hand tools.

Weingart Plier
BIG JOHN
223
Elastic Positioning Plier, Mathieu
Designed like the classic Henry General How plier. Hold wires
securely with ample serrated tip surface. This plier features straight
back beaks for easy viewing in the posterior. Round box joint
construction prevents patient lip impingement. Tip is correct size
for bending the bridge section of utility arches.
Holds securely without slipping. Slender narrow beaks make this
plier ideal for placing or removing archwires. Serrated tips grab tight,
which makes holding auxiliaries easy.
Tiny hook secures off the end, so it won't pull off. Tiny hook grasps
and holds the module firm, while not filling up the module hole, so
ligating around the bracket is easy and it won't pull off the end even
under pressure. Easy-glide spring assures opening and closing the
tips every time.

Orthodontic Instrument Sterilization Tips
Sterilization
Orthodontic Instrument Sterilization Tips
CLEAN, RINSE, DRY & STERILIZE
Before each sterilization:
1. CLEAN instrument by performing an ultrasonic cleaning using a high quality ultrasonic solution for 7-10 minutes.
2. RINSE instrument with distilled or filtered water.
3. DRY instrument thoroughly with compressed air and towel dry, especially joints of hinged instruments.
NOTE: Ultra sonic cleaning is not recommended for cutting pliers - solutions combined with vibrations are very caustic and
could dull or damage cutter. We recommend rinsing the instrument with high-volume sterile water before sterilizing.
STERILIZATION
DRY HEAT
1. Place instrument on tray, sheet, or rack with jaws apart (open). Sterilize for 6 to 30 minutes at 160ºC, depending
on equipment manufacturer’s instructions.
NOTE: Instruments may be bagged prior to sterilization.
AUTOCLAVE*
1. Place instrument on autoclave tray with jaws apart (open). Process for 12-minute cycle at 134ºC/273ºF.
BE CERTAIN UNIT USES DISTILLED WATER.
NOTE: Instruments may be bagged prior to sterilization.
CHEMICLAVE*
1. Place instrument on paper towel. Do not process for longer than 20 minutes at 132ºC/270ºF. BE CERTAIN
CHEMICAL ADDITIVES ARE IN CORRECT PROPORTIONS.
NOTE: Instruments may be bagged prior to sterilization.
COLD (2% Glutaraldehyde)
1. Totally immerse instrument in solution for 10 hours.
2. Remove instrument from solution and rinse in sterile water.
3. Dry instrument thoroughly with compressed air and towel dry, especially joints of hinged instruments.
NOTE: The use of glutaraldehyde on any inserted instrument may cause oxidation on
insert.
*Instruments processed using this sterilizing method may show signs of corrosion if not removed from equipment when cycle is
complete.
MAINTENANCE FOR HINGED INSTRUMENTS
After sterilizing, lubricate hinged instrument sparingly using NuJoint Lubricant (Part # 97-977-15).Wipe off any excess
lubricant.
MAINTENANCE SUGGESTIONS
The major cause of staining or discoloring is OVER USE of lubricants or “sticky joint” treatments. Lubricants, waxes
and “sticky joint” remedies will vaporize inside the chamber and saturate all other items placed inside.
Failure to keep instrument dry may result in spotting.
If you are experiencing brown or yellow staining, scrub with ISOPROPYL alcohol and steel wool (Type A-extra fine).
