The History of Gertrude Hawk Chocolates Gertrude Hawk began making chocolates in the kitchen of her home on Mark Avenue in the Pocono Mountains region of Pennsylvania in 1936. • Gertrude’s son Elmer joined the business after World War II. • With the back pay from his military service, he invested in chocolate making equipment. • In 1963, Gertrude and Elmer built their first large-scale manufacturing facility and retail store. • Seven additions were made to this facility over the next 25 years. • David Hawk (Elmer’s son and Gertrude’s grandson) now owns the business. • David began working in the business as a young boy, gaining hands-on experience in a variety of production, retail, and management positions over the years. • Today we utilize over 300,000 sq. ft. of modern production and distribution space to supply our customers with the products they have grown to love.
