Community of Arts and Activities
Temple Terrace is home to many active arts and
civic organizations. For more than 40 years, the
Temple Terrace Community Arts Festival has
presented art works from hundreds of artists
nationwide, attracting thousands of visitors.
Masque Community Theatre engages children and
adults of all ages, and internationally renowned
a cappella singers, The Toast of Tampa Show
Chorus, along with the Tampa Bay Children’s
Chorus, keep us “on the map” musically. A newer
tradition, the Temple Terrace Arts Council’s Art

en Blanc each April, is a delightful community
extravaganza at Woodmont Clubhouse, where
arts & crafts for children began more than 50
years ago! Terry Klaaren’s canvases, MOSI’s Arc
Gallery in the IMAX and Idea Zone!, Florida
College’s talented performers, King High’s PRIDE,
Virginia Grissom’s piano students, Rhapsody
Ballroom’s dancers — all work in concert to
make our community great. Our Fourth of July
parade is an old-fashioned celebration. The entire
community comes out to enjoy a hometown
parade and fireworks display.
Recreation Galore
Temple Terrace offers some of the best recreational facilities in The Greater Tampa Bay Area.
With its high-caliber facilities, The Family
Recreation Complex is the focal point for a
comprehensive spectrum of athletics and
activities. Additionally, our Parks & Recreation
Division offers arts & crafts, special interest
classes, and sports programs for all ages.
The greater Tampa Bay area is home to a many
fine art studios, historic museums, performing
arts centers, collegiate and professional sporting
events-- all conveniently accessible from Temple
Terrace. Some of the area’s top attractions,
including the Museum of Science & Industry
(MOSI), Busch Gardens and Adventure Island,
are just minutes away. For the young-at-heart,
the City’s newly remodeled Omar K. Lightfoot
Recreation Center is home to a wide variety of
senior activities, with free transportation services,
special programs and a hot lunch served five days
a week. Temple Terrace is a community you’ll
never outgrow. The University of South Florida,
just 5 minutes away, is one of the nation’s top
research universities. Its multipurpose USF Sun
Dome provides an array of cultural, athletic,
entertainment and other educational events
and activities.
And, for those who enjoy being close to nature,
the USF Botanical Gardens is a seven-acre paradise
offering classes, plant sales and more. The botanical
garden boasts more than, 3,000 tropical and
subtropical species from around the world.

Amazing Local Parks
Recognized as a Tree City USA, many of Temple
Terrace’s beautiful parks feature shady grand oaks,
laurel oaks, cypress and magnolia trees. From
large nature preserves to small neighborhood
playgrounds, parks are a signature element of this
Tampa Bay community.
Riverhills Park, on the banks of the majestic
Hillsborough River, offers opportunities for
boating, fishing and picnics. Those who would
rather stay on land can play tennis, enjoy the
playground or take a leisurely stroll on the
boardwalk. There’s also a playground for the kids.
Linwood Park can be found near the intersection
of 113th Avenue and 62nd Street. The park’s
fitness course, which features 18 exercise stations,
makes it a wonderful outdoor gym. Rotary Park

is located near the Hillsborough River on Fowler
Avenue. The park provides a picnic area with
tables and barbecue grills, as well as boat ramp
access to the river. Everything you need for a day
of relaxation is readily accessible.
South of Riverhills Park, you’ll find Scout Park. This
15-acre nature preserve features a two-mile trail
for hiking. The peaceful Hillsborough River brims
with wildlife and creates a veritable recreation and
relaxation oasis. The West River Preserve contains
five acres of pristine land at the northern end of
the Hillsborough River. Historic Woodmont Park
is one of Temple Terrace’s most-popular parks. It
is home to the annual Temple Terrace Craft Beer
Fest and Spring Market, as well as weddings and
other activities.
A Bit of History
In 1922, Temple Terrace Was Home
to the Largest Orange Grove in The World
The riverfront land that is now Temple Terrace was acquired in
1911 by the famous Potter Palmer family of Chicago as part of
their 6,000-acre winter hunting preserve. In 1918, the family
sold its holdings to developers, who formed two development
corporations – Temple Terrace Estates, Inc., which developed
the golf course by renowned architect Tom Bendelow, and
Temple Terraces, Inc., which developed the 5,000 acres of
orange groves that originally surrounded the City. A new
kind of orange, the “Temple” was grown in the community’s
extensive citrus groves. As the largest orange grove in the world
in 1922, the developers paid tribute to the citrus in naming
the community. In 1960, the population of the City climbed to
3,812, making Temple Terrace the second-fastest growing city
in the United States. Today, with a population of approximately
25,000, the City continues to flourish.

Charter schools include The Village of Excellence
Academy, which focuses on technology, while
Terrace Community Middle School has been
recognized as a “National Blue Ribbon School of
Excellence.” The City also boasts Corpus Christi
Catholic School, Florida College Academy and two
Montessori schools. The area is the proud home of
three exceptional high schools: King High School,
Tampa Bay Technical High School (TBT Tech) and
Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate High School. King
and TBT Tech have both been recognized by
Newsweek Magazine as one of “America’s Best
High Schools.” King High School is a traditional/
hybrid magnet and one of the four International
Baccalaureate programs in Hillsborough County.
Eighty-nine percent of IB seniors earned the IB
Diploma in 2009- one of the highest rates in the
United States. It also offers attractor programs
such as King Advanced Placement Scholars
(KAPS), robotics, culinary arts and teaching
academy. It has a strong relationship with the
University of South Florida as a Professional
Development School.
Tampa Bay Technical High School blends
traditional high school classes with technical
training and magnet programs. Students must
apply for admittance and can study architecture,
health, commercial art, journalism, business,
welding, cosmetology, early childhood education,
computers and culinary arts.
Brooks-DeBartolo Collegiate High
School is a college preparatory school where
students push themselves to reach their full
academic potential.
The Hillsborough Technical Education
Centers (HiTEC) is a part of a unified system
of Career, Technical and Adult Education programs
within Hillsborough County Public Schools.
The four schools in the HiTEC network are
Aparicio-Levy Technical Center, Brewster Technical
Center, Erwin Technical Center and Learey
Technical Center.

Temple Terrace is home to several well-respected,
post-secondary schools. We’re just smart – 48
percent of Temple Terrace residents possess a
college degree, making us one of the most highly
educated communities in the region.

undergraduate Christian experience. A private,
accredited, liberal arts institution, Florida College
offers 18 bachelor’s programs, integrating a Christian
education in order to prepare students for lives of

private, for federal research expenditures, and
the ninth largest university in the United States.

Ribbon Cutting & Grand Opening: Let us share

as well as all chamber members via the website,

way to be the center of attention is to host an open

Business Expo: Held annually for 27 years, this
event provides members with the opportunity
to showcase their business in a Trade Show
atmosphere. The 2016 Expo Network Taste held at
T. Pepin’s Hospitality Centre and its business and
community focus will provide exhibitors with a
large prospective clientele.
Chamber Lunch: 11:45 a.m. The third Wednesday
of each month our luncheons are hosted at
various locations. Members are encouraged to
bring business cards for networking opportunities.
We offer a speaker or networking event and an
opportunity to sponsor our monthly lunches.
Sponsors will be prominently displayed and
mentioned at all luncheons, provided a separate
display table and exclusive table top signs at the
luncheon and given five minutes of speaking time.
