Dora the Explorer - Games Boots’Banana Split Oh no! Boots was swinging in the old banana tree and all of the bananas went flying! There’s not a single banana left hanging on the tree for him to eat. He needs his favorite explorers to help him find all of his bananas so he and Dora can make his favorite treat – a big banana split!!! Materials: 10 Banana cut-outs 1 marker tape “Binoculars” for each explorer: you’ll need several toilet paper or paper towel rolls, tape and crayons and markers to decorate How to Play: Using yellow construction paper, cut out 10 banana shapes and mark each with a number from 1-10. Tape the bananas all over the house (or outside) with some hidden in less obvious places, depending on the age of the children. When the children arrive for the party, have them sit at a craft station and create a set of binoculars that they willneed for a very important mission. Once they are finished, the kids can work as a team of Dora’s Explorers to find each banana. Each time they collect a banana, have the kids count them first in English, then in Spanish. When they have all ten, they can shout “We did it!” Backpack Mystery Game Materials: Backpack (any size will work) Blindfold “Mystery” items: any household items will work (i.e. spoon, whistle, bouncy ball, etc.) music How to Play: Fill the backpack with a variety of mystery items. Have the kids sit in a circle and pass the backpack around as the music plays. When the music stops, the child holding the backpack gets to go into the middle of the circle, be blindfolded and reach into the backpack and choose anitem. If he can guess what the item is he sits back down. If not, his friends can start to give him helpful clues until he solves the mystery! I’m Going to My Grandmother’s (Abuela’s )House… How to Play: This game is a great way to build memory skills as each child is challenged with remembering what she and each of her friends will bring to their grandmother’s house. Try using the Spanish word for grandmother “Abuela” just like Dora! Have the kids sit in a circle and one person leads off saying, “I’m going to my Grandmother’s house and I’m bringing…a purple backpack.” The next girl adds on saying, “I’m going to my Abuela’s house and I’m bringing a purple backpack, and a teddy bear, “ And so on. See how far you can get without someone forgetting! Don’t forget, this game is pretend…so if you want to bring a pink elephant to your grandmother’s house…go for it!!! Dora’s Snowball Relay Dora doesn’t get to play in snow very often, so let’s explore the North Pole and see who can collect the most snowballs! Materials: 2 Bowls filled with cotton balls 2 Plates 2 Spoons 1 Timer (optional) How To Play: Place 2 bowls of cotton balls and a spoon at one end of the “raceway” and 2 plates at the opposite end. Divide the kids into 2 teams and line them up behind one another. The first player on each team must put one hand behind their back. When the “go” signal is given, they must use a spoon and transfer one “snowball” from the bowl to the plate without dropping it. This is a one-handed game, so players can't use their other hand to keep their cotton balls on their spoons. Whoever transfers the most cotton balls wins. “Swiper, no swiping!” Materials: 1 blindfold How to Play: Arrange the group in a circle with a blindfolded player in the center. Have the players move around the circle very quietly. The blindfolded player orders the group to stop by saying, “Swiper, no swiping!” The blindfolded player then approaches the circle in any direction. She will choose one player and take her to the center of the circle. The girl selected disguises her voice and says, “Oh Man!” – just like Swiper says when he’s been caught! If the blindfolded player fails to identify her, she is released and the game continues. If she succeeds, the two change places. ©2009 Viacom International Inc. All Rights Reserved.
