* WC19 is a safety standard, which identifies design and minimum performance guidelines to protect the safety and security of
the wheelchair occupant in the event of a crash. To meet the requirements of WC19, wheelchairs must pass a dynamic crash
test at 30mph / 20 g-force deceleration.

At Convaid, we have always been concerned with the safety of our products. That’s why, when industry professionals and transportation safety experts agreed upon new standards to ensure the safety of wheelchairs used
as seating aboard a bus or van, we welcomed the opportunity to demonstrate what we have long known: that
our wheelchairs are safer than most conventional wheelchairs for use aboard a motor vehicle. With Convaid’s
WC19-compliant transit wheelchairs, there is no need to worry about the bus ride to and from school.
What is WC19?
WC19 is a standard developed by the wheelchair industry and transportation safety experts, which sets out
certain minimum performance criteria for wheelchairs used as seating aboard a motor vehicle. These criteria
include design and performance guidelines to protect the safety of wheelchair occupants in the event of a
crash. In order to meet the requirements of WC19, wheelchairs must pass a dynamic crash test at 30 mph/20
deceleration (representing 95% of real-world motor vehicle accidents).
Safer Transportation for Small Children!
Convaid has created a crash-tested 5-point harness system, which will keep small children safer in their
wheelchairs while riding in a bus or van! This 5-point harness was created for children less then 65 pounds, and
is safer because it is attached to the wheelchair rather than the vehicle, providing a closer fit.

Convaid’s transit wheelchairs meet, and in most cases, exceed WC19 performance requirements. Our transit
wheelchairs provide for an optional SAE J2249 compliant lap belt to facilitate loading onto the bus or van. And
best of all, the bright red anchor points make securing our wheelchairs a snap! With our chairs, it’s easy to be
sure that they have been properly tied down, making them a favorite among bus drivers.
