minutes or 10 minutes. The student's
attitude changes from feeling crummy for not practicing to feeling confident about what he/she can do.

count.

ballot or go on line to vote—casting
your ballot will take you less than
30 seconds.
The days are getting longer. They
are??!! Well, actually no . . . there
are still 24 hours in a day; no more,
no less. We all get handed the same
allotment of time each day. We are
not handed the same looks, the same
talents, or the same intelligence; but
we are given an equal 24 hours each
day. What do we do with those 24
hours?
I was just comparing my 2006 calendar with my new 2007 calendar.
The 2006 calendar looks like I had an
impossibly busy schedule and the
2007 calendar is a blank slate; well,
almost a blank slate. Where will the
time go? How can I make my time
count?
The amount of time we have has a
lot to do with our attitude. Have you
ever noticed how children can rant
and rave about brushing their teeth
or cleaning their room? They can
choose to fuss around for an hour or
just do it and go on to something
else. I catch myself debating whether
I want to exercise. I stare out the
window; diddle around; 15 minutes
later I realize I could have been exercising for that 15 minutes. We teachers can spend time at a lesson lecturing about the importance of prac-

noon in the high school auditorium.

Pullman Chapter
The Pullman MTNA Chapter is
busy preparing for upcoming events
in 2007. We’re particularly excited
about clinics and recitals featuring
composer Melody Bober in February,
adjudications with the dynamic Dr.
Jody Graves in March, and the WSMTA State Conference at WSU in June.
The Pullman Chapter and Washington State University enjoy a symbiotic relationship. Chapter recitals
are held in Kimbrough Concert Hall
on our treasured 10-foot Fazioli
piano. Melody Bober’s masterclass
and clinic on February 9-10 are sponsored by the university’s Piano Pedagogy Lab School run by Michelle
Mielke; Ms. Bober will be appearing
along with John Corigliano at WSU’s
Festival of Contemporary Art Music.
The collegiate chapter will attend the
MTNA Collborative Conference in
Toronto and will provide invaluable
assistance with the 2007 State Conference.
Recently we said goodbye to our
president Kathie Sharp, who accepted a new job out of town. Under
Kathie’s direction, the chapter joined
the Chamber of Commerce, created
rack cards to be displayed for publicity, approved new by-laws, and established a new website. We are
grateful for Kathie’s leadership and
will miss her.

you to Pullman from June 25-29 at
the State Conference!
