THE MEANING OF THE RUBY
Due to their exceptional quality of maintaining their beauty unaltered throughout time, rubies have always been considered eternal, like
true love, and have always been surrounded by a halo of legend, granting them magical powers. In accordance with an ancient belief,
wearing a ruby close to the skin promoted a long life, blessed with health and happiness. In 1996, Roberto Coin started signing his jewels
by setting a small ruby hidden on the inside of each piece, allowing direct skin contact with the gem. Since then, this tradition has been
perpetuated in all collections, and has become the exclusive signature of every jewel by Roberto Coin, dedicated as a secret gift of good
wishes to every person lucky enough to enjoy wearing and loving one of his exclusive creations.
In the light of the recent conflicts taking place in Burma, and of the consequent US government act* which prohibits the importation of rubies and jade
coming from this country, Roberto Coin has decided to use only synthetic rubies as an absolute guarantee that the stones set on his jewels do not come from
regions in turmoil. Synthetic rubies have exactly the same physical and aesthetic characteristics as natural rubies, and are guaranteed to be “conflict free”.
