Junior Bowling Night
The inaugural GGFC Junior Bowling Night at
AMF Golden Grove was held on Saturday
night, and a good time was had by all. There
were plenty of spares, and a few strikes, and
when the juniors enjoyed some hot food and
took advantage of their arcade tokens, it was
then that the real competition took place with
parents trying their luck on the lanes! Thank
you to Radar for organising the night, our host
for the night Bri, and for everyone that came
and shared the evening.
Under 7 Gold
In a week that saw the Kookaburras train hard and work particularly hard on their skills – the boys were set to have
a big game on Sunday.
We hadn’t heard too many reviews about Para Hills so we didn’t know what we were up against; but I bet they
heard stories about the boys of Golden Grove.
Skipper for the day was Riley Rosenburg – he won the toss and we were kicking to the Quarry end. Para Hills were
running short of players so we had to give them 4 players every quarter.
The weather was warm and a beautiful day for footy. Things to work on was: skills, skills, skills. Handballs, kicks
and if you’re in the position to take a specky – get up and take a big grab!!! Come on Kookaburras, show us what
you’ve got!!!
The first quarter saw some demolition work in the centre from the Kookaburras. The boys absolutely dominated the
quarter to constantly feed the forwards plenty of ball. Lachlan Anderson was the star this quarter with a 4 goal haul
(costing Dad a small fortune we suspect), Miller Jolly also showed his class and finished with a sausage roll as did
the skipper Riley Roseburg!! Adam Barnett was up to his usual faking, dodging and weaving had he also finished
with a goal for the quarter. Alby Bradshaw played a terrific quarter for Para Hills and gave us some of our own medicine as did new recruit Joey!! Our Backs hardly saw the Red Pill, so they’d have plenty of energy to play for Para
Hills next quarter.
At quarter time the boys came in thirsty – it’s hot!! Have a drink and listen up boys – we’re in total control of the
game boys – let’s make sure everyone gets a touch today. Get the ball zipping around with the handballs – Team
work boys!!
The second quarter started and it was going to be the same as the first. Domination by the centres again with
Hamish Martyn really showing some dash – plenty of stats too!! Harry Hensby along with Joey really worked hard
up forward. Sam Carter was again unlucky with the bounce of the ball today – still working to the right spots though
Sammy! We had a few good shots at goal this quarter but only finished with 2. One goal each to Bailey Casey and
Alby Bradshaw.
At the long break the boys were hard to settle – they just wanted to get back out there. Have a drink and an orange
– then go gett’em boys!!!
The start of the third quarter again saw the Kookaburras take control – it’s certainly our day today. Riley Baker up
forward was getting plenty of the ball and firing shots at goal and Brodie Murphy had a great quarter with some nice
touches and a shot on goal. Jayden Jackman took a terrific mark then went back and slotted it through whilst Jordan Ruchs was dominating all marking contests and finished with a goal. Little Zak Big Heart showed great pace
and also finished with a sausage roll!!
Three quarter time it felt like we were floating on air. The boys were up and about cracking jokes and making the
coach loose his concentration!! Great team effort so far boys – let’s give it everything we’ve got!!
As the last quarter started you could hear the boys screaming out to each other, keen to get the ball. Then centres
again dominated getting the ball into the forward line. Harry Slater had the ball on a string this quarter and possible
his best game for The Mighty Kookaburras – he finished with two major’s as well as a couple shots on goal. Caleb
Zanker also got on the score board with a goal from a great team effort by Miller Jolly – great pass!! Ajay Visnyai
was absolutely brutal when he played for Para Hills but this quarter he was back plaing for us and was all over the
forward lines and also finished with a super goal.
In summary, we were missing a few players today but as a team we came together to play our style of footy. For
those boys that put the guernsey on for Para Hills – you all did a fantastic job and show that you’re willing to play
good football no matter where or who you play for; very good sports.
We’ve only got two games left so we need to make the most of them. We play Mawson Lakes this week and again
we don’t know what they’re like – so we need to prepare for playing a quality side.
Who is Golden Grove Under 7 Gold? WE ARE!!! Go Kookaburras!!!
.
Under 8 Gold
Under 8 Gold had a perfect Sunday morning game against Elizabeth at Harpers to celebrate another milestone this season - Braden Carpenter's 50 Games. After the formalities,
we had to share players with Elizabeth as they were short, and they managed to sneak in
the first goal of the match before we really had a chance to settle. From that point on, Under
8 Gold took control of the game in what turned out to be a stop-start affair.
Tyson Walters managed to convert our first goal, closely followed by some brilliance from
Jack Goreing, showing his ability to read the play well to score. Owen Jarrad had another
strong game, highlighted by the fact that he was undoubtedly Elizabeth's best player in the
last quarter!
Our team fought the contests well, and was never willing to give the ball up without a fight, especially in the centre,
where all players had the same spirit, wanting to get it to their team mate. James Gray had another strong quarter in
the forward third, scoring three goals with some great kicking and leading. Jordan Miller, Ryan Kopec and Matthew
LeRay worked hard to keep the ball in GGFC's third, while Corey Edwards and Brooke Silby against showed their
skill in the centre.
The third quarter was the "Braden" show, where he was everyone and had the ball on a string, bagging four majors
for the quarter, again off some very strong work by the centre players. In the last quarter, the ball didn't get past the
centre for Elizabeth, as our team dominated, with Nathan Petrie and Bailey Maddeford capitalising on their good
form to score goals. All in all, Under 8 Gold again showed their skills and team play, celebrating a fantastic milestone for Braden - well done!
Goal scorers: Braden Carpenter 4.0, James Gray 3.1, Jack Goreing 1.2, Nathan Petrie 1.1, Tyson Walters 1.0,
Owen Jarrad 1.0, Jordan Miller 1.0, Brooke Silby 1.0, Bailey Maddeford 1.0, Matthew LeRay 0.2, Ryan Kopec 0.2,
Under 8 Green
We knew we were facing a tough game against Modbury Brown this week as they have always been strong in previous years. And the game didn’t disappoint with our boys always under pressure and possession seesawing all day.
The Green Machine stood up to the challenge in the first half, kicking a remarkable 9.3 to 2.1 in what was a brilliant
display of footy from our boys. Rhys got us off the mark with a hard-fought scramble for the ball and goal, followed
by a point shortly after. Indy put his body on the line with many contested marks and intercepts, finishing the quarter
with 2.1. Evan, Logan and Mackye also kept the scoreboard ticking with a goal apiece, and Jace scored a point too.
Zach was everywhere in the second quarter, taking marks and finishing off with 3 straight goals. Our boys worked
really hard around the rest of the ground too with Jordan and Alex creating heaps of opportunities in the centre,
Harley was always chasing loose balls and keeping possession, and Louis and Blake read the ball brilliantly in defence to cut off Modbury’s entries.
The second half was a different story though with Modbury bouncing back and kicking three quick goals to start the
third quarter and working their way back into the game. Ryan and Indy were our lone goal scorers in the second
half, while Jordan added two points. Logan took a couple of strong marks in defence which were badly needed and
Mackye chased a loose ball which triggered a handy scoring opportunity. Liam and Kam provided clean movement
through the centre and Louis and Noah kept at it to cause a few ball-ups.
Modbury took advantage of a few lapses of concentration from our boys, but to our credit we never gave up and
kept our unbeaten season alive to win 11.5 to 9.2. With only two games to go, we’d love to keep the momentum
going and go undefeated for the year – GO GREEN MACHINE!!!
Scorers: Indy 3.1, Zach 3.0, Rhys, 1.1, Logan 1.0, Evan 1.0, Mackye 1.0, Ryan 1.0, Jordan 0.2, Jace 0.1
Under 9 Gold
Another great day for footy playing on an old traditional muddy oval
at Walkerville. Daniall Cowie was Captain with Xander as Vice
Captain and although we did not win the toss we were ready to
take on the extremely competitive Walkerville Red team.
The first quarter started with Walkerville getting the jump on us and
it really took us a while to get going. It was Daniall Cowie, Jayden
and Luke that were getting in to the ball from the first bounce and
all three players were able to get handballs out from a tough situation whilst being tackled to get the ball forward to a Kookaburra
player in a better position.
The second quarter was similar to the first with Walkerville still out playing us still but it was Tom , Xander and Talan
that held there position’s well in the back line and slowly started to stop Walkerville’s momentum. Tom was running
and tackling hard and positioned himself really well taking some great marks and kicking the ball long into the forward line. Xander played with a sore wrist but he didn’t let that get in his way getting the ball numerous times with a
long thumping kicks forward. Talan was superb out of the back line with real determination snatched the ball out of
the opposition’s hands. Josh played a pivotal role all day with accelerating pace was able to pick up the ball cleanly
with one grab bust through the packs and open up the game. He kicked a couple of goals and his effort all day was
brilliant! Great game Josh.
The third quarter was a real tough fight with our team stepping up a notch. Danyle Dobie played an outstanding
game, his fierce determination to get the ball and support his team mates was first class and on occasions hurt himself from busting through so hard. But this did not stop him, in fact his game got better and better. Danyle showed
true leadership and was able to kick a couple of goals also. Great game Danyle!
Isaac, Riley, Seth and Wyatt were working hard around the ground applying strong tackles and taking great marks.
Seth’s attack the football was fantastic and really helped get us back into the game.
It was the fourth quarter that finally clicked for us when Tyson and Brodie alternated in the ruck tapping the ball
down to our rovers superbly gave us first use of the footy. Brodie’s determination to win throughout the day was
great, Brodie’s never give up attitude was outstanding and on numerous occasions fought fiercely for the ball ripping the ball out of the opponent’s hands. Tyson was everywhere he played all position extremely well taking big
marks and selflessly passing the ball to bring other players into the game.
Alex, Daniel Hewitt and Jakson Ray all played tough attacking forward resulting in goals that were important in getting us across the line. Jakson on one occasion attacked the ball so hard that the ball almost took his head off.
It was an outstanding effort to get back in the match and kick some fantastic team goals that got us across the line.
Great game Golden Grove Under 9 Gold!
Under 10 Blue
Another bright, sunny day on a boggy marsh of a pitch presented our blue burras today against a fiery Hectorville. Already
under the pump with five players out, we were helped out by a
courageous, defiant Joshua, Lee and Michael from our Under
8s. Times were tough early, with a strong Hectorville having
some strong, fast, tall players kicking long, weaving and snapping truly despite strong contested ball. Lachlan and Max were
manning up well, Max taking a nice contested mark early, and
Koby jumping high in ruck gave us early chances and Thomas
was mopping up well across half back and running to create.
The second quarter was a more even contribution, Sam and Callum getting on to some nice loose ball, Jacob starting to kick long and Aaron getting on to the end of a few nice balls and zig zagging through traffic to pump the ball
forward. In the end, our solid midfield play came up short as we lacked forward options that could penetrate their
strong defensive wall.
I was so proud of our boys in the third quarter for responding by going harder at the ball and forgetting the man, and
this created some exciting passages including a great kick from Foxx out of full back to Jake Winter, who passed
long to Koby who ran 30m, dodging, weaving and bouncing and kicking our only goal.
The last quarter, we put our strongest contingent on the ball, including Brodie Edwards who added much-needed
pressure. Brodie Tilley was able to turn a few players inside out and kick long, Jake Shannon kept his improvement
going with strong body efforts, and Waylon was able to get a nice mark and deliver some solid kicks forward, alas,
Hectorville were too strong, too big and too organised for us today. With 2 weeks to go, we hope to put our best
team on the ground and finish the season strongly.
Under 11 Red
Sunny and warm conditions greeted us at Harpers bottom oval for this week's game
against Broadview. Despite the opposition sitting in seventh spot on the ladder, this
had the potential to be a tricky game. Broadview came into the game after a loss to
Tea Tree Gully while our boys were coming off a hard fought but comfortable win last
week against Hope Valley. A win today would almost certainly confirm a spot in the
finals top four. In the absence of Nic due to injury, it was Kayne J captain and Nathan
B vice captain.
First quarter: we were kicking against a slight breeze to start the game. Aidan T was
working hard early in the ruck. Cooper W quickly snapped from 30m with the ball
bouncing past an opponent and through for a goal. A great tap from Aidan T to Jordi
who put the ball forward where Cooper W gathered and bagged his second within a
minute. Harry K defended well at fullback taking a nice mark under pressure from two
opponents. Angus was able to clear the defence with help from Nathan, Riley H and Nate. Quarter time: 2-0 to 0-2.
Second quarter: Broadview scored the first goal of the term with transition play from their backline. Poor manning up
and a lack of defensive running left Broadview with numbers in their forward line and they had another in quick time.
Forward play led to a boundary throw in the right forward pocket, spilling to Cooper W who slotted his third goal. A
kick out of defence by Aidan T found Riley B to Corey who kicked forward with crumbs falling to Cooper W who put
through his fourth goal of the game. Help for The defence was still lacking, personified by a passage that lead to the
opposition's third goal when Aidan T was left stranded against four opponents deep in their forward line. Another
opposition goal on the buzzer to end a quarter of football that showed some defensive frailties, where Broadview
forwards were left alone and midfield defensive running was limited. Half time: 4-0 to 4-4.
Third quarter: a scrappy start to the quarter but an early goal resulted to Cooper W. Kayne J cleared the defence
kicking to Kane H who sent the ball forward. Our boys were on the defensive for much of the quarter but restricted
the opposition to just one behind. Three quarter time: 5-0 to 4-5.
Fourth quarter: Broadview scored a quick goal to start the quarter, hitting
the lead by five points. A boundary throw in at the left forward pocket had
Max tapping the ball to the back of the contest where Riley B gathered
and snapped truly for nice goal from 25m, regaining the lead for the
team. Kayne J tackled well and received the holding the ball free kick,
passing well to Corey and we were forward again. Another boundary
throw in, this time in the right forward pocket and a great check side goal
to Aidan T. A good defensive mark by Riley B to Kayne J then onto Angus and a forward 50 entry but no score. Broadview's run was worrying
and resulted in a responding goal reducing the margin to 2 points late in
the game. A point to Aidan T just before the siren blew for full time. Final
score: 7-2 to 6-5.
It was an unconvincing win this week but one that was achieved despite lacking numbers, with the team having 17
players on the field for just over three quarters of the game. We know that the boys have it in them to play with so
much more confidence, intent and purpose and really contend in the finals. It's important that they keep working on
improving their form over the next two weeks with the next opportunity being away to Elizabeth, to pick up the effort
and tune the game plan. Well done for the win and in cementing a finals spot.
Under 12 Red
Congratulations to Jordan Ouston, Ben
Trotta and Harvey Harrison from Under 12

Great achievement!
