From The Driver`s Seat - Minuteman Model A Ford Club
The Oil Leak \ From The Driver’s Seat Our May meeting was one of the best attended monthly meetings that I have seen in my term of office. The great weather provided a wonderful background to our guest speaker program which included a demonstration in the parking lot of pinstriping a Model A. Dan Gallo has a great talent in free hand application of pinstriping. Dan began his program around 6:30 prior to our regular 7:30 meeting time. A big thank you to Richard Weintraub for securing Dan as our guest speaker. Richard lent a helping hand to our Program Chair Mike Doyle for our May meeting. I believe we had about 15 Model A's. In addition I noted: 1 Mustang, 1 four passenger T-Bird and 1 Corvette in the parking lot. A Thank you to: Pauline Palmer, Marlies Plaggenborg (welcome home) and Peg Michalek to bring for the June refreshments. A belated presentation was made by Wayne Champagne for a miles driven award to our Oil Leak Editor Tony Zeoli. Tony has driven his Model A over 2,000 miles. The 50th Anniversary Party funds were approved by the membership so that planning can move forward for this September event. I was very pleased to see our new "mentoring" program get off to a success. A new member had misplaced information on the Winter Blah's Flea market on the morning of the event. This new member called Harold Samuels (his mentor contact) on the Sunday morning of the event and Harold gave him all of the information he needed in order to attend his first Minuteman Flea market. On that note we welcome new member Dave Mangan to the club. Rich Batstone current club Secretary has agreed to be Dave's contact for any questions Dave may have regarding the Minuteman Model A Ford club. Thank you Rich.... Doug Linden paid tribute to Gene Tallone for his contributions to our club over many years. Gene and Barbara are relocating to Virginia to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren. Gene is not only a past President but has been instrumental in establishing programs for the club. After Doug's tribute Gene & Barbara received a standing ovation from those present. We will begin our summer meetings at the homes of three of our members. Our June 4th meeting is being held at Harold & Sally Legge's home, 8 Brook Street, Natick, at 6:30 (please bring your own chairs). Our July 2nd meeting will be at John & Shirley Jacobson's home, 242 Old Connecticut Path, Wayland, Ma. August will bring us back to Sudbury at Jack Stokenger and Jo Johnson's home, 75 Haynes Road, Sudbury. It will be a busy May and June as many of our members will be attending tours, the opening of the new Model A Museum in Michigan, and the Model A national convention in Kentucky. We should be very proud of fellow Minuteman member Art Callan who as Executive Director of the Model A Foundation was one of the primary "movers" of securing the location & construction of the Museum. Come to think of it Minutemen not only have a key leader of the Model A Foundation but also a member of the Model A Club of America's Board of Directors as Publications/PR Director of the national club (Doug Linden). How great is that?? Check your tour card for the month of June as we have many super tours planned. I hope to see you all at our next meeting at Harold & Sally Legge's home 8 Brook Street, Natick on June 4th. Many Thanks, Vin 1 The Oil Leak President Vice President Secretary Treasurer Newsletter Editor Membership Steering Committee: 2013 OFFICERS Vincent Del Mastro John Kerns Rich Batstone Barbara McElhiney Tony Zeoli Jo Johnson Nan Linden Tom Zapalla KEY CONTACTS Tour Director Tom Zappala Webmaster Wayne Champagne Programs Mike Doyle Shop Keeper Gary Hoyt Newsletter Distribution Sue Champagne Historian Art Callan Hospitality Joyce Croci Sunshine Sally Legge Raffles John Roberson 617-244-8417 508-877-1226 978-838-2098 781-933-0179 781-935-6422 978-440-8031 Harold Samuels [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] 781-424-3364 508-881-1595 781-899-8706 508-655-0077 508-881-1595 617-332-3363 508-473-2243 508-655-1977 978-807-8419 [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] Contents Article – Minuteman’s Legitimate Speedster Auto Show Flyers Nashua & Elm Bank Business Card Ads Calendar – June 2013 Calendar – July 2013 Class “A” Ads Club Meeting Pictorial - May History - Art’s Parts L”A”dees Luncheon Information MAFFI News Meeting Information - June Officer and Key Contact lists Outing – Wellesley Pizza Quiz Answers President’s Message “From the driver’s seat” Secretary’s April Report Sunshine Report Tom’s Tour Page Tony’s Transmission Treasurer’s Report Weekly Breakfast Information Wingaersheek Beach Tour and Directions 2 John “JJ” Jocabson Page/s 13 - 14 12 18 – 19 5 6 17 8 15 11 9 20 2 8 16 1 3 4 7 12 4 11 4 The Oil Leak Secretary’s April Report 4/2/13 Monthly Club Meeting Meeting called to order at 7:30 PM by President Vin DelMastro. A motion was m/s/p to accept the Treasurer’s Report and the Secretary’s Report as printed in the Oil Leak Doug Linden notified the club that the Wings and Wheels meet at Westover AFB has been scheduled for August 24 /25. (May 18th) The Model A was built in the late 1920s and early 1930s following the wild success of Ford’s Model T. Doug Linden Hickory Corners — A new Ford dealership opened up in southwestern Michigan. Actually, it's a very old one. The Model A Ford Museum held its grand opening ceremony on Saturday. Fashioned after a Ford dealership from 1928, the 12,000-square-foot museum sits on the Gilmore Car Museum campus in Hickory Corners, about 115 miles west of Detroit. The new facility is the world's largest public museum dedicated to the Model A, according to marketing director Jay Follis. The Model A was built in the late 1920s and early 1930s following the wild success of Ford's Model T. "The Model A is a car that all can relate to," Michael Spezia, executive director of the Gilmore Car Museum, said in a statement. "It was an affordable and very popular automobile that has been owned and enjoyed by millions of people." People from all across the country attended the grand opening, MLive.com reported, and several hundred Model A vehicles were driven to Hickory Corners for it. The Model A Ford Foundation Inc. raised more than $1 million toward the construction of the museum. Highlights include: — A Model A that was driven off the assembly line by Henry Ford in 1927 and presented to inventor Thomas Edison. — A 1930 Model A school bus that originally served the El Monte, Calif., school district. — An original postal service delivery truck and a unique dual powered-axle truck that was used in building the Hoover Dam. Saturday's event was open to the public with admission to the Gilmore Car Museum and campus at $5 each — less than half normal price From The Detroit News: http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20130519/AUTO0102/305190322#ixzz2TvmLEWK6 9 The Oil Leak Save the Date!!! The bosses are thick as thieves and they're always on your neck, because the man above is on their neck, and Sorenson's on the neck of the whole lot. The men tremble when they see Sorenson coming. He used to be very brutal - he'd come through and slug the men. One day when they were moving the plant, he came through and found a man sitting on a box. "Get up, says Sorenson, don't you know you can't sit down in here". The man never moved and Sorenson kicked the box out from under him. The man got up and bashed Sorenson one in the jaw. "Go to hell, he says, I don't work here. I'm working for the Edison Company".----------and then there was a guy named Harry Bennett!
