Box 332, Bayfield, WI 54814 • 715-779-7021 COMMUNI MUNITY Y FUND SPECIAL EDITION: 2009 Grants Announced at Public Event 2008 Annual Report Inside Guests attending our public Grants Program and Reception on May 14 heard about nine area projects made possible with grant support from the Apostle Islands Area Community Fund this year. “We are pleased to be able to award a total of $27,997,” announced Patty Carver who chaired the Grants Committee. “It’s really inspiring to see what organizations are able to accomplish with relatively small grants,” Carver commented. Grants ranged from just over $1,000 to the maximum of $5,000. Unrestricted Fund • La Pointe Community Clinic – $2,000 for Staff Assistance to hire a Registered Nurse to help meet increased patient visits. Human Rights Fund • CORE Community Resources, Inc. – $1,900 for the Senior Program Series, which promotes the health, safety and wellness of older adults in our region. Unrestricted Fund • Northwoods Women, Inc. – $3,000 for the Community Readiness project to determine attitudes and appropriate education for children on violence prevention. Human Rights Fund Lindsay Hunt, Speech Language Pathologist, shares how one family's life was changed after participating in Project Speak. Grants from the Apostle Islands Charitable Temporary Fund: Human Rights Fund supports projects that promote tolerance and understanding, combat bigotry, racism, and discrimination in the Apostle Islands area.
