Year 5 Poetry Day
We were delighted to welcome Year 5 students from Drury, Mountain Lane,
Southdown and Westwood schools to our Poetry Day, working with
performance poet, Levi Tafari.
The primary pupils considered the importance of culture and identity and their own examples of effective
verse themselves. Bendigedig!
This event is part of the Smooth Move to Elfed programme of activities for primary school pupils.
Year 11 Hoodies / Vivos
All students at Elfed are rewarded with Vivo
points when they exceed our expectations.
Elfed Egg Hunt 2016
There was a warm welcome for Year 6 pupils
and their families at this year’s Elfed Egg Hunt.
Pupils solved egg themed puzzles and navigated
their own way around school. This was the first
Welcome Event for Elfed’s new intake of Year 7
Students. We are looking forward to you joining
us in September.

The points used to buy items from our Vivo Shop
or from the online site. Some students donate
their points to charity and others have saved
them over the years. For the first time, several
students in Year 11 have collected enough
points to buy their Leavers’ Hoodies.
Well done! Da iawn!

Numeracy weekend
Key Stage 3 student enjoyed some exciting adventurous
activities and developed their confidence in numeracy
at Boreatton Park in Shropshire. They spent a weekend
taking part in fencing, shooting, canoeing and riding the
high swing. The weekend was a fun way to prepare for the
National Numeracy Tests. Thanks to the Maths team for the
opportunity and well done to all who took part. Da iawn.
Base Daffodils Cake Sale
Congratulations to the Base Leading Learners
for organising a cake sale in support of Daffodils,
a self-help group for children and their families.
We loved the cakes!

Buckley schools,
singing in harmony
Choirs from all the Buckley schools came
together to perform at the Mayor’s Concert
in April. Cllr R Jones, organised the concert
as a charity event, with some outstanding
performances by choirs from across North
East Wales. The combined school choirs of
Elfed, Drury, Mountain Lane, Southdown and
Westwood thrilled the audience with their
excellent performance.

Tour de Cymru
Sports Council members organised
a spectacular fundraising event,
the Elfed Tour de Cymru. Students
and staff combined their efforts
to ride the whole distance around
Wales on a stationary bike. It took
a week to complete the 1044
kilometer journey, collecting funds
in aid of Ty Hafan along the way.
Congratulations to the two
Elfed High School students
who played for the North East
Wales Cricket team recently.
Bendigedig!
Sport Relief
Congratulations to students
and staff who supported the
Sport Relief appeal by running
a mile. Many wore fancy dress
for the event and all enjoyed
the challenge. Thank you to
everyone who donated towards
this good cause.

Is your child
eligible for
free school
meals?
The high cost of raising a
young family means that
everyone could do with some
help. Free school meals save
you time and money and
provide reassurance that
your children are eating a
healthy, balanced lunch every
day. If you are on benefits or
unemployed you may be able
to claim free school meals for
your child.
Urdd Eisteddfod
One of Europe’s largest
youth festivals will be held in
Flintshire between 30th May
and 4th June 2016. There will
be plenty of fun and activities
to practise your Welsh on the
grounds surrounding Flint
High School.
Details are on the website.
