The overgrown walls of Schloss Heidelberg, the
world’s most famous palace ruines, rise majestically
above the Neckar river valley. The imposing red sandstone edifice allows you to relive the everyday lives of
the Prince Electors and their servants. Once celebrated
as the eighth wonder of the world, sections of the
Hortus Palatinus garden have survived to this day as
a reminder of the palace’s proud history.
The former summer residence of a Prince
Elector, Schloss Schwetzingen is built on the foundations of a medieval moated castle. With its unique
Baroque gardens and English landscape garden, the
palace ranks as a world-class heritage site. With an
abundance of flowers, a temple, fountains, a folly
and even a mosque, you cannot help but be charmed by this colourful garden wonderland.

Set in the beautiful landscape near Lake Constance, Kloster Salem was once the most important
Cistercian monastery in southern Germany. Founded
in 1134, the complex has a long and eventful history.
After the ravages of the Thirty Years’ War, and almost
complete destruction by fire in 1697, the monastery
was rebuilt on an even grander scale.

Festungsruine Hohentwiel, the largest fortress
ruins in Germany, offer a breathtaking panorama –
Baden-Württemberg’s most beautiful view – spanning
Lake Constance, the snowy peaks of the Alps and the
scenic landscape of the volcanic Hegau region. Originally built in 914, the structure was expanded during
the 16th century into one of Württemberg’s seven
key fortresses. It was destroyed by Napoleon’s forces
in 1801.

Construction of Schloss Bruchsal, the only
ecclesiastical Baroque residential palace in the Upper
Rhine area, commenced in 1720 and was completed
in 1760 in Rococo style. At the heart of the palace is
an architectural masterpiece in its own right: an imposing oval staircase designed by Balthasar Neumann.
Restored to its former glory in 1975, the palace has
been delighting visitors ever since.
Catch a glimpse of life in a Cistercian monastery, with a tour around the monastery church, summer refectory, dormitory and well house. Founded in
1183/84, Kloster Bebenhausen flourished during the
13th to 15th centuries. In the 19th century, the kings
of Württemberg converted parts of the complex into a
private hunting palace. You can still admire the original
furnishings today.
Of all the palaces of the Hohenlohe region,
Schloss Weikersheim is the jewel in the crown: set on
the scenic Romantic Road, it evolved into one of the
most beautiful residential palaces of the Renaissance.
The sumptuous interiors remain almost unchanged to
this day, evoking the luxurious lifestyle of the nobility.
The palace is surrounded by a glorious Baroque garden, with a unique and exquisite design.
Schloss Mannheim, whose construction commenced in 1720, became one of the largest residential
palaces of its time. In April 2007, it has regained its
past splendour. This includes the opulent state rooms
on the beletage (principal floor) with their impressive tapestries, priceless porcelain, original throne
and many other treasures. Immerse yourself in the
enchanted atmosphere of a bygone era.
The best-preserved monastery complex north of the
Alps, Kloster Maulbronn is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The almost 900-year-old Cistercian abbey
conveys a vivid image of monastic life in the Middle
Ages. The Romanesque monastery church – with its
famous Paradies (paradise) portico, the men’s refectory and the well house are all considered architectural
masterpieces.
Schloss Ludwigsburg is one of the largest
baroque residential palaces in Europe – and is, without
a doubt, among the most magnificent. The palace’s
ensemble of lavish rooms, complete with original furnishings, brings the Baroque, Rococo and Empire eras
to life. Favorite, a stunning Baroque hunting palace,
is located opposite the residential palace, set picturesquely in a park.
