March 6, 2010
Dear Friends of FA,
Thank you so much for joining us this evening for “A Night in the Jungle”! I am so
excited to be sharing in the tradition of the Annual Auction with all of you and to be
experiencing all of the new additions to this year’s event.
Since its founding in 1992, FA has had one mission: to provide an excellent collegepreparatory education in a nurturing environment. Tonight’s event funds a major
portion of our operating budget, and one hundred percent of the money raised goes
toward programs that support our mission.
The FA Spring Fest and Annual Auction is also an evening to celebrate the special
community we have created together. Look around at the people sharing a table
with you this evening—all of you have played a role in creating and sustaining the FA
experience we all cherish. Thank you for your participation and support!
There are so many people who have made this year’s FA Spring Fest and Annual
Auction possible. I would like to thank all of our parent volunteers, led by Auction
Chair Janny Sims, for the countless hours they have dedicated to making tonight a
success. In addition, all of us here at FA are truly grateful to our donors, sponsors,
and advertisers, without whom we wouldn’t be here tonight.
Don’t forget—every dollar you spend tonight directly benefits the children of FA.
Thank you again for joining us here in the “jungle”!
Sincerely,
Karen A. Moschetto
Interim Head of School

General Rules
Silent Auction Rules
1. All sales are final. No exchanges or refunds on Auction
items are permitted. Everything is sold “as is.” Please
read carefully the specifications and limitations.
1. Guests receive bid numbers through registered BidPal
handheld devices upon check-in.
2. All minimum bids are stated on the item description.
The highest bid at closing is the winning bid.
2. At check-in, guests may leave a credit card imprint
if they plan to pay for their purchases with Visa,
MasterCard, American Express or Discover.
3. Bid increments are stated on the BidPal handheld
devices. Bids must follow required increments. Bids
not following increment levels will not be accepted.
3. Payment must be made the night of the Auction
by Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover,
Check or Cash. Please make arrangements with
Linda Catullo in the Development Office if you are
unable to take your Auction item home that night.
4. Each Silent Auction category closes at the time listed
in the Table of Contents.
5. The buyer should pick up his or her item and proceed
to the checkout table when the Live Auction closes.
4. Values indicated for some items are estimates only
and are not warranted by Fredericksburg Academy
for tax purposes or for general use. Your charitable
deduction for the purchase of each item is limited to
the amount, if any, by which your payment exceeds
the fair-market value. Please consult your tax advisor
for definitive advice.
Live Auction Rules
1. The Live Auction begins at 8:30 p.m. and continues
without interruption until all items have been sold.
2. To enter a bid, a guest raises his or her bid number,
directing the signal either to the auctioneer or to one
of the spotters.
5. The buyer waives any claims for liability against
Fredericksburg Academy or the donor of the property
or services, and neither Fredericksburg Academy nor
the donor is responsible for any personal injuries
or damages to property that may result from the
utilization of property or services sold.
3.
6. Unless otherwise specified, all Auction items and
services must be used within one year of March 6,
2010. It is the responsibility of the buyer to contact
the donor to arrange dates, times and deliveries for
items or services purchased.
The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer
shall be the buyer. In the event of any dispute
between bidders, the auctioneer has sole and final
discretion to determine the winner.
4. If the auctioneer determines that any opening bid
is not commensurate with the value of the item
offered, he may reject the same and withdraw the
article from sale.
7. When the item is not on display, the buyer receives a
certificate for the gift or service.
5. At the fall of the auctioneer’s hammer, ownership
passes to the highest bidder, who thereupon assumes
full risk and responsibility.
8. You must return your BidPal handheld device at
the end of this event. Each BidPal is registered to
individual guest numbers and you will be charged
$229 if your numbered device is not returned.
Happy

28. 5TH GRADE CLASS PROJECT
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is
not an act but a habit.”- Aristotle
Because words can have the power to change lives
in important and profound ways, Mrs. Garay’s and
Mrs. Carroll’s 5th grade classes have endeavored to
enrich their educational goals by including the study of
motivating inspirational phrases. Each student has selected
expressions to study that he or she have personally found
meaningful. These timeless expressions encourage the
students to reflect on and incorporate such qualities as
honesty, initiative, confidence, personal excellence, hard
work, enthusiasm, compassion and friendship.
Mrs. Garay and Mrs. Carroll’s classes have lovingly
created a beautiful mosaic mirror encircled with hand
crafted mosaic stars. Each tile was personally designed
by individual students and is emblazoned with his or
her favorite expression learned this year. The tile mosaic
surrounding each student’s chosen phrase is that student’s
personal work of art.
The second part of this auction project is a lovingly
created memory book including photos of the entire
class, photos of major events from the current year and
individual student pages depicting each student when they
entered lower school and a photo of each student in his or
her final year of lower school. Each page will incorporate
the student’s personally selected quotation. This memory
book is a one of kind treasure.
The owner of this mirror and memory book will have
a lasting memory, not only of fifth grade, but of timely
words that continue to inspire success.
