Congratulations to all my wonderful cast and crew for their dedication and determination to pull the rabbit out of the hat. See the following items in body of newsletter. The Awards Night has come and gone, and what a wonderful evening it was. Rehearsals for “And Then There Were None” are well underway, with a late change of actor in one of the roles. We are looking for Directors and Submissions for Season 4 & 5, due to circumstances beyond our control. ABOUT THE SHOWS: Dreamjobs SYNOPSIS Five teenage girls waiting for interviews with an employment service dream of the romantic, exciting jobs they would like-- derived from television series and films. The dreams are enacted by all the girls together. In each case there is a rude awakening. Finally, Beverly, the clearest sighted, brings them down to earth, forcing them to realize that their characters and abilities will fit them for only the drabbest of occupations. CHARACTERS Angela – Somewhat coarse in manners and behaviour. Joan – Well groomed and slightly sensitive. Mandy – Good friends with Joan. A snob and well spoken. Beverly – Very confident and a little arrogant. Fiona – Fussy and takes things very seriously. The Snow Queen SYNOPSIS The Snow Queen is a story about the strength and endurance of childhood friendship. Gerda's search for her playmate Kai–who was abducted by the Snow Queen and taken to her frozen palace–is brought to life in delicate and evocative production. CHARACTERS, (large cast required): The STORYTELLERS - need to be well spoken and able to articulate the nuances of the story. Gerda (girl) - A bright, precocious, adventurous girl. Kai (boy) - A bright, inquisitive boy. Sweet and innocent to start, he grows dark, self-possessed and obsessive as he goes deeper into the world of The Snow Queen. Gerdah’s Grandmother - Kind and caring, she tries to protect the children by keeping them ignorant of the dangers in the world. Snow queen - A force of nature to be reckoned with. Powerful, mercurial, demanding and alluring. She is beautiful, cold and hard, just like her ice and snow. Flower Witch - Needy, cunning and a little dotty. She is powerful yet very scattered. Dresses like a hipppy. Raven - Noble, forgetful, and aged. He believes he’s much younger than he really is. Speaks like a World War I British flying ace. He wants one more grand adventure. Princess - An untraditional princess. Geeky and adventurous. She seems to be on way too much caffeine. Explosive energy, she is hopelessly in love with The Prince . Prince - See Princess. They are a perfect match Robber queen (mother of Girl–robber) - Scary and demanding and the leader of the toughest, roughest gang in the woods. She always gets her way – except when her daughter is around. Girl–robber (girl) - She is the scariest tween you’ve ever met. Demanding, hormonal, volatile. Punk rocker. Finn (Finnish woman) - Wise, powerful, spiritual – she is both of this world and not of this world. She can see beyond the things of the real world. Northern deer - The most noble, honorable beast on the ice. From a royal reindeer family, he is the strong loyal friend you want beside you on any difficult journey. EXTRAS – (students can play multiple parts, depending on where the scenes appear) A few Angels for the prologue battle with the Ice Warriors School Children to play in the ‘snow’ Robber Gang - Not bright, not well-kept, and awfully loud. Flowers - Vain, beautiful, simple-minded and competitive. They love the sun and crave attention. Each has their own unique qualities and they like to talk about them. Bindweed – Slightly ‘ocker’ Snowdrop – always falling asleep Daffodil – Daft Rose/Roses - Rappers Ice Warriors - They are powerful fighters. After Gerda defeats them, the children trapped inside are released. Please note We also require backstage crew, e.g. Stage Managers, Lighting, Sound, stagehands, set builders/painters. THESE ARE VERY IMPORTANT IN HELPING BRING A PLAY TO LIFE!! WARDROBE Susan Vincent is our current wardrobe Supervisor and she is seeking to establish a team of wardrobe assistants to help with Wardrobe. Do you love fashion from all eras Do you love sewing Do you want to be involved Are you good at organising and cataloguing ?????? If you said yes to even one of these then you are the person/people we are looking for. Give Susan a call 0435 074 942 Or email her on [email protected] FRONT OF HOUSE AND OTHER VOLUNTEERS We have planned an orientation afternoon for all existing FOH, Bar and Backstage volunteers, and any new members who are interested. Everyone welcome. The main subject will be Fire Drill training, along with updating you all on the new security system, and a bit of a refresher course on the normal FOH and Bar routines in order to present a consistent front to our patrons. It is important that everyone knows what to do should (heaven forbid) an emergency occur. NEWSLETTER DELIVERY The gradual change over to internet delivery of the newsletter is going to take a little while. I have only had a handful of people contact me saying they are happy to receive it this way, so perhaps it will be quicker if we ask the opposite question. WHO WANTS TO CONTINUE RECEIVING THEIR NEWSLETTER VIA SNAIL MAIL? Using the term snail mail is correct in this day and age. It takes almost a week for mine to reach Mount Helena from Guildford, which is quite ridiculous. Postal costs have also soared so if we can cut back then we will. For those who still wish to receive a hard copy in the mail, then we are happy to do so, as we know not everyone relies on a computer. We’ll still be printing them. However, it will still be in black and white, whilst the internet delivery will be in colour. If you choose to receive the newsletter electronically you will receive an email with the link to the newsletter. So now would be a good time to double check with us that your email is up to date. Please email with details and Newsletter in the subject line, to one of the following people Terry Brown - [email protected] Geoff Holt – [email protected] Lynne Devenish – [email protected] We look forward to seeing you all on Saturday 9th April at 2:00 p.m. We’ll conclude the meeting with afternoon tea and a bit of a chat. Just let us know if you’re coming for catering purposes. Thanks. “AND THEN THERE WERE NONE” PLEASE NOTE THAT THURSDAY 14TH APRIL PERFORMANCE HAS BEEN CANCELLED. CALLING FOR SUBMISSIONS FOR SEASONS 4 & 5 2016 Due to unforeseen circumstances we have vacancies for Season 4, (July 28th to August 13th) & Season 5, (September 29th to October 15th) We are looking for full length plays of various genre, preferably popular bums-on-seats ones. Please contact me urgently to discuss your submission. Lynne Devenish 0488 906 076 or [email protected] CALLING FOR SUBMISSIONS FOR 2017 SEASONS 2017 will be an important year for us as we’ll be celebrating our 85th Anniversary.
