Application Form Vice-Chancellor's Message Established by the Tamil Nadu Government by Act No. 2 of 1982, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, has grown with an excellent research base, offering PG and Research programmes through 35 and odd schools, Departments and Research Centres. The University is Accredited with “A” Grade by NAAC and is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU). During the past 25 years, the University has made tremendous contribution towards teaching and research. The faculty of the University includes winners of prestigious honors like, Bhatnagar Award, Hari Om Trust Award, Meghnad Saha Award, UNESCO Award, Sahitya Akademi Award, TANSA Award, National Enivironmental Science Academy Award and Indian National Science Congress Award. Many members of the faculty have received fellowships like FNA, FNASc, FASc, FIAT, FPTCA, FLS, FAEB and FRES. The University has acquired SAP-DRS Level II for Chemistry Department, DST-FIST for Animal Science, Chemistry, Physics and Plant Science Departments and DST-IRHPA for the Centre for Non-linear Dynamics. The University offers a wide range of contemporary, emerging and career oriented programmes through the 120 affiliated colleges. The Centre for Distance Education (CDE) was established in the year 1992 with an aim to provide higher education to those who could not attend regular colleges due to economic constraints and those who were employed and sought to upgrade their educational qualifications. The syllabi for the programmes offered through the CDE are the same as for the programmes offered in the colleges affiliated to the University. The B.Ed., Programme is being offered from the academic year 2006-2007 with the approval of NCTE and so far two batches of students have successfully completed the programme. There are totally five regular faculty in the Department of Education in the CDE and quality education is provided to the students who are pursuing B.Ed. Programme on par with the regular students. I extend my best wishes to all students studying through the Centre for Distance Education of Bharathidasan University and hope that the education they acquire through the CDE will help them in their profession and to achieve their goals. Meena Vice-Chancellor From the Director's Desk The Centre for Distance Education (CDE) of Bharathidasan University (BDU) was established in the year 1992, mainly to cater to the students of the University area for those who could not enter the regular colleges for higher studies. Subsequently, the area of Centre for Distance Education was extended to cover all the four Southern States and Union Territory viz., Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Now many study centres of CDE have been established all over India and abroad. To help the Students, our Personal Contact Programme Centres (PCP) are located in 19 Towns/Cities. There are more than 20,000 students on roll, with an annual enrolment of about 8,000 to 9,000 students. The Centre for Distance Education offers as many as 60 programmes including 20 UG, 21 PG, 13 Diploma / Certificate programmes and 8 Professional programmes in selected disciplines. MCA, MBA, Diploma and B.Sc Degree in Animation programmes are the most sought after Courses. Besides the Conventional programmes, the Centre for Distance Education is offering programmes in Computer Science and Applications, Information Technology, E-Commerce, Bank Management, Financial Management, Co-operation, Library and Information Science, etc. The lab-oriented programmes are meticulously planned and executed with the same rigour of regular programmes, with no compromise on the practical requirements. The Centre for Distance Education conducts the theory and practical classes on Saturdays and Sundays. The conduct of the programmes is strictly monitored by the Director & the staff of the Centre for Distance Education. Arumugam Director (i/c) 1 BHARATHIDASAN UNIVERSITY - A PROFILE INCEPTION Bharathidasan University, named after the revolutionary Tamil Poet Bharathidasan, was established in the year 1982. It was recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 1985. It is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and Commonwealth Universities. Celebrating its Silver jubilee in the year 2007, this young and vibrant institution continues to make rapid strides in the fields of higher education, research and extension activities. Aptly the University has been adjudged as one of the most reputed Universities in the country having been accredited with "A" grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The serene, unpolluted ambience of the campus provides a quiet and conducive atmosphere for higher education and research. Palkalaiperur Campus CAMPUS The Institution with a sprawling 750 acre scenic campus is located on the Tiruchirappalli - Pudukottai Highway, at a distance of 16kms from the city and 10 kms from the airport. This main campus houses the administrative building, a very spacious library and various Schools / Departments / Centres. The University also has a City Campus at Khajamalai which accommodates a few Departments like Educational Technology, Centre for Remote Sensing, Academic Staff College, Department of Economics, Department of Women Studies, Deparment of Social Work, Institute for Entrepreneurship and Career Development (IECD) and Bharathidasan University Technology Park (BUTP). An entrance view of Bharathidasan University 2 projects and are encouraged to complete their final project work in premier institutes like Centre for Cellular and Molecular. For example some students of the Department of Biology, Indian Institute of Science. National Institute of Immunology, to name a few; are awarded student fellowships to go abroad for their project work in reputed research institutions. Bharathidasan Institute of Management (BIM) The University has grown from strength to strength with an excellent research base, offering quality Post - Graduate and Research programmes through its 40 and odd Schools and Departments and Research Centres. It includes the prestigious Bharathidasan Institute of Management (BIM), an autonomous institute ranked as one of the top ranking management institutes in the country for its MBA program. In response to the quality of education imparted and need - based courses many programmes are funded by the UGC under innovative programmes; accordingly the Post-Graduate student strength in the campus has increased more than five - fold from 361 in 2002 to 1625 in 2007. A feather in the cap in this regard is the 5-year and 6-year integrated programs that admit students who are qualified at plus two level exposing them to University education at an early stage in academic career. These integrated programs provide a fast track for early graduation. Also it facilitates to break off with an Under Graduate degree or for lateral entry for a PG degree for fast learners. These programs also aim at instilling fortitude in the young minds to take up research and competitive examinations like NET / SLET / GATE. Many students get fellowships from organizations like Indian National Science Academy for summer In recognition of the meritorious contributions and generous funds received to the tune of Rs. 90 Crores so far, for research projects in different disciplines, the University has established centres for 1) High Pressure Research 2) Nonlinear Dynamics, 3) Nano-Science and Nanotechnology 4) Remote Sensing 5) Geographic Information Technology, 6) Bioinorganic Chemistry and 7) Pheromone Technology in the various departments. HOSTELS Hostel The University provides separate hostel facilities, 3 for women and 4 for men with furnished accommodation and mess facilities. To encourage the sports talent, the University has a spacious play ground adjoining the hostels with a 400 meter standard athletic track, an outdoor sports complex with play grounds for ball badminton, volley ball, hand ball and basket ball; this 3 also includes a yoga centre which runs a part time course on yoga. Every year a cultural program, BARD-FEST is conducted in the campus wherein students from different colleges participate. LIBRARY The main library is well equipped with a large number of books, professional journals and popular magazines; it also provides internet connection and digital library facility to the user enabling access to thousands of e-journals, libraries and knowledge in emerging areas in relevant disciplines. Apart from research grants received through national and international agencies, the University also allots funds to each department every year and also provides research fellowships to promote quality research. From its inception till date, more than 6,000 research papers and over 300 books have been published; many of these have been published in high impact factor journals with very high citation index claiming international recognition. CENTRAL FACILITIES In addition to the very good Instrumentation and laboratory facility including high speed internet access (for students and faculty) in each department, a Computer Centre, a Central Workshop, Library databases around the world. Apart from this, each department has a well equipped libray with a rich collection of books in its discipline. FACULTY Each Department has a team of dedicated renowned faculty members with excellent academic records. Many of them have won national and international awards and have tie ups with reputed research institutes across the world that facilitate exchange of students, scholars and faculty. Several research projects funded by the National, International agencies, and industries are in progress in different departments. National and international Seminars, Symposia and Conferences are held periodically by different departments to provide an excellent exposure to the young post-graduate students to update their Computer Centre Departmental Store, Health Care Centre, Biomedical Diagnostic Laboratory, State Bank of India branch and Canteen cater to the needs of the students in the campus. ALUMNI Most of the alumni, comprising post - graduates and research scholars, are well placed in various positions as doctoral, postdoctoral fellows and scientists in reputed national and international laboratories, as decision makers, faculty in educational institutions and in Non-Governmental Organizations. Some of the courses are tailored to generate self employment. 4 Accordingly, satisfied with the quality performance of the alumni of Bharathidasan University, many international research institutions readily consider favourably request for granting placement in research projects, if the applicant is from Bharathidasan University. BDU - BDC In consonance with the current view that Institutions of Higher Learning should open out to global competition and move towards self-sustenance through external cash flow, an independent unit called Bharathidasan University Busines Development Centre (BDU - BDC) has been establised. Within the short span of four years the BDC has facilitated many reputed industries / institutions to sign Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University on various aspects. INSTITUTE OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT (IECD) force of the University area is also immensely benefited. The IECD also organizes campus recruitment for students in different disciplines inviting prospective employers. PATENT CELL Patent is an index of intellectual contribution. Researchers should come away from the traditional motto of "Publish or Perish" to "Patent and Protect" their research findings. Some of the papers published from the university have international acclaim but so far only nine products have been patented. Hence, to pave the way for external cash flow to augment the sustenance of the institution and sensitize the staff and students about the significance and potentials, a patent cell has been established and is functioning since April, 2009. STUDENTS COUNSELLING AND GRIEVANCE REDRESSAL CELL To redress the grievances of students who come from far and near an exclusive Students Counselling and Grievance Cell with touch screen facility has been introduced in January 2009. The students' problems are redressed at the earliest mediated by the Cell. IECD The IECD, established as an autonomous institute aims to serve the formal and nonformal community on low cost and low technology basis. Designing its own need based syllabi, it offers more than 100 short term programs which are completely job or Entrepreneurship oriented. The courses are offered through onsite and offsite modes. In this line the non-student Students Counselling & Grievance Redressal Cell 5 A novel Thatkal Scheme is also in vogue which enables the students to get their certificates from the office on the same day. UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENTS/ SCHOOLS / CENTRES The University has over 35 Departments / Schools / Centres such as Adult, Continuing & Extension Education, Animal Science, Bio-Technology, Chemisty, Commerce, Computer Science, Earth Science, Economics, Educational Technology, Energy, English, Management, Mathematics, Microbiology, Physical Education, Physics, Plant Science, Social Work, Sociology, History and Tamil. There are also three specially funded institutes, viz. National Facility for Marine Cyanobacterial (NFMC), Centre for Non-linear Dynamics, Centre for Remote Sensing and the Department of Library located in this University. Apart from these, there is a Centre for Canadian Studies, Centre for Periyar Studies, Centre for Bharathidasan Studies and an Academic Staff College, a Community College, a Computer Centre, an Informatics Centre (INTERNET), Bio Informatics Centre, IECD and a Central workshop. Apart from the Schools, Departments and Centres of Research, the University has in its fold 99 Arts and Science Colleges and 13 approved institutions. For further details the prospective applicant can access the official web site of the University: www.bdu.ac.in 6 CENTRE FOR DISTANCE EDUCATION - A PROFILE Centre for Distance Education PREAMBLE The Centre for Distance Education (CDE) of Bharathidasan University (BDU) was established in the year 1992 to serve the aspirant students of eight districts under the jurisdiction of the University who could not enter the regular colleges for higher education. Subsequently, the Centre for Distance Education started offering programmes for the candidates all over India and abroad through distance mode of education. Today owing to the quality of educational programmes offered and the degrees awarded on par with the regular mode, there is a great demand for the programmes offered by Bharathidasan University around the world. There are more than 20,000 students on roll today, with an annual enrollment of about 8,000 to 9,000 students. The Centre for Distance Education offers as many as 66 programmes including 20 UG, 21 PG, 13 Diploma / Certificate Programmes and 8 Professional Programmes in selected disciplines including MBA and MCA programmes. Besides the conventional courses, the Centre for Distance Education is offering programmes in Computer Science and Applications, Information Technology, E-Commerce, Bank Management, Financial Management, Co-Operation, Library and Information Science, Animation etc. The laboratory oriented programmes are meticulously planned and executed with the same vigor as regular programmes, with no compromise on the practical requirements. The Centre for Distance Education conducts the theory and practical classes on Saturdays and Sundays. The conduct of the programmes is strictly monitored by the staff of the Centre for Distance Education and the Director through regular visits to the Personal Contact Programme (PCP) centres. The distance education programmes are administered through 17 PCP Centres of the University, and Study Centres in India and Study Centres in abroad viz. Sri Lanka, Dubai, UAE, ALAIN, Australlia Sharjah and USA. A significant number of students graduated from CDE have found lucrative positions in India and abroad. 7 This prospectus gives the details about the PG programmes offered through distance mode of education. BENEFICIARIES The aim of the CDE is to help the candidates who: discontinued their formal education due to pecuniary and other circumstances, hail from geographically remote areas, discontinued higher education for some reason or other motivation but later want to pursue higher education and cannot get admission or do not wish to join a regular college or university department, due to job commitments. CDE promotes higher education among the working community and the underprivileged, irrespective of age, employment and distance. A special feature of the CDE is that it meets the needs of all such candidates who desire to study rare and market driven academic programmes like computer science and its applications and business management, at affordable cost, compared to that of the regular mode of education. SPECIAL FEATURES Bharathidasan University has been very successful in imparting quality education through distance mode because of strict adherence to the following: Guidelines of the UGC, and the policy of Higher education of the Central and State Governments making higher education reasonable and affordable to all. Keeping the quality and assessment such as curriculum, syllabi and examination system etc., same for all the students studying under regular and distance mode of education. Bridging the spatial distance between unreachable learners and teachers. Providing appropriate learning environment and a good two way communication system between students and teachers. Deployment of qualified and experienced faculty members for teaching and testing that instill confidence among the distance education learners. Providing flexibility by permitting students to undergo programmes under distance mode CONCURRENTLY. Under this scheme students undergoing UG/PG programmes in regular / affiliated colleges of Bharathidasan University are eligible to jon any UG/ PG programme CONCURRENTLY through CDE of this University. Granting scholarships to the unemployed SC / ST students who are studying in CDE of Bharathidasan University. 8 The Course The Centre for Distance Education (CDE) offers several Post Graduate courses (Semester/Non Semester) and PG Diploma Courses. ADMISSION The candidate may avail spot admission facility in the office of Centre for Distance Education and at all the PCP centres during Saturdays and Sundays. (Name of the PCP centres are given in page no. 58). HOW TO APPLY Before filling up of the application, candidate has to go through the prospectus carefully. Application must be filled - in by the candidate in his /her own handwriting . Name should be written as per the S.S.L.C. Certificate. Photograph affixed in the space provided should be attested by the Gazetted officer. Refer the code list given in the prospectus for code numbers. Candidates must write their address neatly and legibly (Pin code must be written). Attested xerox copies of UG consolidated mark statement, transfer certificate, community certificate, etc. should be enclosed along with the application. Filled in application forms should be submitted before the last date. Incomplete applications will be summarily rejected. No concession will be given to any individual. Check the enclosures as below One stamp size photo for Identity Card. Demand Draft for admission fees. A copy of the certificate as evidence for date of birth, community and transfer certificate (TC). Attested copy of the UG Consolidated Mark Statement. Postal admission Facility The CDE offers postal admission facility also for those who are not able to come in person for admission to the office. But the candidates should send a DD towards prescribed fee along with the attested copy of the UG consolidated mark statement, community certificate, transfer certificate, etc. by registered post addressed to the Director, Centre for Distance Education, Tiruchirappalli. Mode of payment All the payments due to the University towards Registration, Admission and Certificates are to be remitted in the form of crossed Demand Draft obtained from any one of the nationalized banks payable at Tiruchirappalli drawn in favour of "Centre for Distance Education, Bharathidasan University". The DD's obtained more than one month prior to the date of admission/submission of DD's for 2nd semester or 2nd year fees will not be accepted. 9 Following fees are to the remitted in separate DD's for each 1. Tuition fee 2. Examination fee 3. Change of PCP centre fee 4. Loss of Identity Card (duplicate) fee 5. Change of Address fee 6. Course Certificate fee 7. Change of Medium of Instruction fee Fees once paid will not be adjusted with any other account. Fees once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances. The tuition fees and other fees due for the first year are to be paid immediately on receipt of the Admission Intimation and before the last date fixed in the intimation letter. No extension of time for the payment of fees will be allowed. Separate intimation will not be sent. The tuition fees can also be paid through challan in the State Bank of India, Bharathidasan University branch, Tiruchirappalli - 24. Challan can be had from the CDE office and pay the amount in the State Bank of India. Except in State Bank of India, Bharathidasan University branch, the payment of fees should not be paid through challan at anywhere. The candidates should pay their tuition fees and others for second semester to sixth semester / second & third year etc. on the dates prescribed in the prospectus. If the fee is not paid within the prescribed date, the tuition fees should be paid along with the penalty of Rs. 200/- within a month. Even-though, the candidate has failed to pay the tuition fees, he / she will be treated as in break of studies. Re-admission is subject to the approval of the Authorities of the University. For any payment, D.D. should be accompanied by the remittance slip with all the details filled - up. The remittance slip is available in the prospectus. The students can use the xerox copy of the same. The students are advised to retain with them a xerox copy of each of the DD sent to the CDE. Name of the student, course and enrollment number should be written on the reverse side of the DD. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS The method of instruction is through 1) Study Materials 2) Personal Contact Programmes(PCP). Study materials will be distributed to the students enrolled. 10 The study materials will be supplied to the candidates in the PCP Centres. Every effort is taken to handover the lesson materials for each paper during contact classes. Candidates are advised to check up the lessons received by them. The PCP classes are conducted for giving lectures on important topics and to clear the doubts of the students by the efficient teachers. This programme will be organized on Saturdays, Sundays and other holidays, The PCP Centres are at Tiruchirappalli, Thanjavur, Coimbatore, Chennai, Salem, Cuddalore, Madurai, Bangaluru, Pudukkottai, Karur, Tirunelveli, Erode, Perambalur, Mayiladuthurai, Tuticorin and Hyderabad. Candidates are advised to attend the PCP classes regularly on their own interest for effective distance learning. The PCP classes at the respective centres will commence in the month of August / September. The study materials given by the CDE are only a supporting material. Students are advised to refer prescribed Text Book and reference books for detailed study. So, purchase of prescribed Text Book if any is compulsory. All communications / notifications will be sent to the students sufficiently in advance by post / speed post or by courier. However, there is every possibility of delay / loss of letter. Hence, candidates are instructed to check / verify then and there the communications / notifications received by them with their classmates. CDE HAS NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR POSTAL DELAY / LOSS IN TRANSIT. All disputes are subject to Trichy jurisdiction only. PRACTICALS : For Non-Semester Programmes The candidates who are studying in II year M.Com. and II M.Sc. Maths. are hereby informed that the computer practical classes will be conducted in the respective PCP centres / practical centres. The candidate should earn 50% of attendance by attending the classes in practicals or otherwise he/ she will not be eligible for appearing the University Practical Examinations. If the candidate has not attended the practical classes or practical examination conducted by University, he/she should pay the fees of Rs. 900/- by means of DD drawn in favour of CDE, Bharathidasan University payable at Tiruchirappalli during the month of January for Re-doing the practicals. For Semester Programmes Attendance Attendance for the practical classes is compulsory. Only those candidates who earn 50% and above of attendance in the practicals, are allowed to appear for the University practical examination. 5 marks in the Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) out of 25, are allotted for the attendance, for both theory and practicals. 11 Attendance for theory classes is not compulsory but is a component in the CIA. a) Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) (i) 25% of the marks in each theory paper / practical are assessed internally. (ii) Internal Assessment for each theory paper shall include assignments (10 Marks), tests (Short Questions / Short answer Quiz) (10 Marks) and attendance (5 marks) (iii) internal Assessment for practicals shall include attendance 5 marks, record 10 Marks and terminal test 10 Marks. (iv) There is no separate passing minimum in the CIA but the passing minimum in the University Examinations (UE) is 50% for M.Com., F.M. & B.M. courses. (v) There is a separate passing minimum in the CIA 40% (10 out of 25). The passing minimum in the University Examinations (UE) is 40% and in aggregate of UE and CIA is 50% (M.Sc. I.T., C.S., Physics Courses). b) Discrepancy in the CIA Tests for CIA will be conducted at the respective PCP Centres under prior intimation Valued answer papers with the marks secured will be shown to the students in a subsequent class by the respective teachers. Any discrepancy in awarding the marks has to be brought to the attention of the concerned teacher then and there and be solved. Any subsequent remedial action will not be entertained. At the end of each semester, a consolidated CIA marks statement will be sent to all the students individually. If there is any discrepancy between the actual marks scored by the students and what is indicated in the consolidated CIA statement, the candidate has to report the matter to the Director within 15 days from the date of the letter. Representations received thereafter will not be attended to under any circumstances. IDENTITY CARD An identity card will be provided to each candidate at the time of admission which is valid till the completion of the course. Students are advised to preserve their identity cards safely. The examination Hall-ticket will be issued by the Chief Superintendent of the concerned examination centre only on production of the identity card. Even though the period of study is over, the arrear candidates also can use the Identity Card for obtaining the Hall-tickets. If the identity card is lost, a duplicate card can be obtained on payment of Rs.50/- through a crossed Demand Draft accompanied by the requisition to that effect, enclosing a recent stamp size photograph. Enrollment Number After admission, each candidate will be issued an Enrollment No. This number should be quoted 12 in all the communications addressed to the Centre for Distance Education till the completion of their study. Letters received by the CDE without the Enrollment Number, may not be attended to. CHANGE OF ADDRESS Study materials and other communications will be sent to the students to the address given by them in the application form. If any change in the address, the candidate should intimate to the Director, Centre for Distance Education, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli with name and enrollment number along with a crossed D.D. for Rs.50/- drawn in favour of CDE, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli. Students are advised to inform the post-office concerned to redirect the lessons and communications to their new address as the centre will take atleast a month to incorporate the new address in its records (for Specimen format see Annexure I). Request for change of address without payment to the prescribed fee, will not be entertained. CHANGE OF PCP CENTRE Change of PCP centre may be permitted only once during the entire period of the programme on or before the commencement of programme. The students, who intend to change their PCP centres, are instructed to pay the prescribed fee of Rs.250/- in the form of D.D .(for Specimen format see Annexure I). Subject to the approval of the authorities, change of the University Exam centre will be permitted. CHANGE OF MEDIUM The students who intend to change the medium of instruction or the course are instructed to pay the prescribed fee Rs.300/- through D.D. (for Specimen format see Annexure II). COURSE CERTIFICATE To obtain the Course Certificate, the student has to pay Rs.50/- in the form of D.D.(for Specimen format see Annexure II). SCHOLARSHIP FACILITY The unemployed SC and ST students who are residing at Tamil Nadu are eligible for scholarship. After getting the Enrollment Number, the students may contact the Deputy Registrar, SC/ST cell, Bharathidasan University for detailed information. The SC/ST students who are admitted through Study Centres are not eligible for scholarship. BREAK OF STUDY 1. A student who has discontinued can be readmitted only once during the entire programme of study. 13 2. 3. 4. 5. The student will have to pay Rs.600/- as readmission fee through a demand draft. Such students shall also have to pay the tuition fee, in vogue at the time of re-admission. The readmitted student shall subscribe to the prevailing syllabus in vogue at the time of readmission. The readmitted candidates shall appear for examinations through their own preparation; in such cases no contact classes will be arranged. TRANSFER ADMISSION FACILITY A student who needs transfer from regular college to CDE due to his/ her personal problems, he/ she should come inperson to the CDE office and contact the concerned section. He/she should pay the fees as shown below. If a candidate has any arrear paper at the time of studying in College, he/ she had to get a permission letter from the Principal for writing the arrear paper in the College in which previously studied. On production of these evidences, the candidate may be admitted in Centre for Distance Education. University examinations for these programmes will be conducted at the end of the each academic year, on the dates to be notified by the University. Examinations will be normally held in the months of April - May every year. Supplementary examinations will also be conducted in October - November. 2. The written and the practical examinations as may be applicable, for all programmes will be held in the institution fixed by the University. 3. Applications for examinations are normally due in the centre two months in advance. Applications for examinations will be invited through correspondence. Candidates are expected to watch for the correspondence and apply for the examinations before the prescribed date. 4. The candidates shall write the examinations only in the medium chosen for the programme. If the candidates write the examinations in a medium other than the one opted for the programme, the answer scripts may not be valued. 5. University exam centre, once chosen by the candidate, will not be changed under any circumstances till the programme is completed. 14 6. HALL TICKET: Hall ticket for the examinations may be collected from the Examination centre one days before the date of commencement of the Examinations. 7. Registration for Examination: To register for Examinations for the papers in first year/ first semester is compulsory for all the candidates. Fee for the exam, Revaluation, Provisional Certificate & Degree certificate should be paid through crossed DD drawn in favour of "Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli". However, all communications should be sent to the Director, Centre for Distance Education, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli-620 024. The difference between the existing and the revised fee, if any, should be paid by the candidates at a later date as per the directions of the University. 15 Transparency / Revaluation / Retotalling Revaluation can be applied for, in TWO FAILED PAPERS or ONE PASSED PAPER in the current session. Application for revaluation shall be made in the prescribed Proforma within 15 days after the announcement of the result, through the Director, Centre for Distance Education where he / she underwent the course. Those candidates who have passed in the examinations, and those candidates who have secure less than 50% of the passing minimum marks in the examinations shall apply for revaluation provided that they get the transparency of their answer scripts and support their cases with the specific recommendation of the Director, Centre for Distance Education, Bharathidasan University, for revaluation on the basis of the transparencies. Those candidates who have failed but secure more than 50% of the passing minimum marks shall be eligible for revaluation with or without getting the transparency of the answer scripts. The candidates who have sought for revaluation need not wait for the outcome of revaluation result. The candidate may register for the concerned paper(s) in the subsequent examinations. Late applications for the subsequent examinations on the ground that the candidate was waiting for the results of the revaluation will not be entertained at any cost. The University will not bind at any circumstance if the candidate passes in revaluation of paper(s) and qualified for admission to P.G. Courses / Higher education. INSTANT EXAMINATION There is a provision of instant Examination for those candidates who are in final year. The candidates who have failed in just one subject in the final examination of the degree programme, the candidate has to apply for the examination within 10 days of the declaration of the result with the prescribed fee of Rs.500/- per paper. PROVISIONAL CERTIFICATE For those candidates who have passed all the subjects / papers are qualified for UG Degree. A Provisional Certificate will be sent to the candidate along with Consolidated Mark Statement. 16 CONVOCATION For those who have qualified for the Degree, the convocation form will be sent by post, on receipt of requisition from the candidates. Degree certificates will be issued to the candidates only if they apply for the same in the convocation form along with the prescribed fee of Rs.425/- in the form of D.D and necessary enclosures. The Degree / Diploma will be conferred only in absentia. It will be sent by Registered post in about two months from the date of the convocation. STUDY CENTRES The candidates may get admission through Study Centres also. GRIEVANCES If the students have any grievance such as non-receipt of study materials etc. they are free to write to the Director. (Specimen format in Annexure-III). A grievance register will be available with the University representative at the PCP centre. The students can record their grievances, if any, in this register. REVISION OF REGULATIONS AND CURRICULUM The University may, from time to time revise amend and change the Regulations and the Curriculum as and when found necessary.
