THE GIRL SCOUT COOKIE PROGRAM:
Teaching Essential Skills
for a Lifetime
The Girl Scout Cookie Program is often girls’ first introduction to business
and entrepreneurship. Girls develop five lifelong skills: goal setting,
decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics —
key 21st century business and finance skills.
All of the funds raised in product sales support girl program. A portion of
the money earned through the product program stays with the troops
for funding their year-long Girl Scout activities. This year troops earned
$1,461,209.51 for funding service projects, travel and events.
We’re all about having fun and hanging out — selling cookies is about
both! We donate some of our earnings and save a large portion towards
a trip. Sure, selling cookies is hard work, but it gives us a chance to be

together and do fun things.

Highest Awards
The Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards represent the highest
honors a Girl Scout can earn. All three awards give girls the
chance to make a huge impact in their communities, and
beyond, while working on an issue that is important to them.

Gold Award
The Girl Scout Gold Award
represents the highest
achievement in Girl Scouting.
Open only to girls in high school,
this prestigious award challenges
girls to change the world—or at
least their corner of it.
Silver Award
Earning the Girl Scout
Silver Award—the highest
award a Girl Scout Cadette
can earn—gives girls the
chance to do big things and
make their community
better in the process.
Bronze Award
The Bronze Award is the
highest honor a Girl Scout Junior
can achieve. Girl Scouts make
a difference as a team
as they plan and complete
their project.

Asia Alcorn & Annie Wehling
Troop 3523 – Arlington, TX
Benefitting Arlington Animal
Shelter and Mission Arlington
Troop 3018
Fort Worth, TX
Benefitting Bat World
Sanctuary
With the support of their troop,
Asia and Annie’s plan was to use
their time and cookie profits to
purchase wishlist items for local
charities. To stretch their dollars,
the girls learned how to coupon
and shop for bargains. Not only
did the girls fulfill the needs of
several charities, they were able
to donate twice as much as their
original goal! Nothing went to
waste—the girls donated excess
newspapers to a local animal
shelter for cage liners and expired
coupons were sent to military
families stationed overseas
(overseas military members can
use expired coupons up to six
months past expiration). Plus,
they are making their project last
by creating brochures for local
charities to encourage young
people to form their own coupon
clubs and maximize their donation
dollars to fulfill wishlist needs.
Most will choose to support
organizations that help cute
animals. But the girls from Troop
3018 felt that bats are awesome
too, so they decided to raise
awareness and collect supplies
for injured and mistreated bats.
They held a skating party, invited
troops in their service unit, and
girls who brought an item from
Bat World Sanctuary’s wishlist—
such as dish soap, paper towels,
laundry detergent—were able
to skate for free. Troop 3018
collected a carload of supplies
and even contributed $400 worth
of printer ink to the organization.
Paige’s project placed an
emphasis on breaking the cycle
of incarceration through
education, positive mentoring
relationships and activities to
support those relationships.
Paige hoped to make an impact
by being a positive role model
and mentor by working with and
supporting the child/children
of an incarcerated parent by
creating an outlet to express
themselves through her theatre
project, Thespian Odyssey.
Her project consisted of skits,
games, songs and interacting
with others. Paige created a book
that contains the information
that she used to complete the
project. This will allow others to
complete the project with their
campers/children.

Volunteer Toolkit
The Volunteer Toolkit is a new web
app that helps you save time and
plan for success. Make every troop
meeting awesome!
Here’s how it works:
For Daisy, Brownie, and Junior troops, the Volunteer
Toolkit comes with pre-populated plans for everything—
a full year of Girl Scouts right there on your device! Cadette,
Senior, and Ambassador troops don’t get pre-populated
meetings yet (coming soon), but you can still access great
planning features.
Have your own idea for a meeting? Perfect. Everything in
the Volunteer Toolkit is fully customizable. You can add
your own activities and change their order with a quick
drag-and-drop. You can also report on troop finances,
access your girl and family roster, and track your girls’
achievements and attendance.
No more hunting for the right activity or book—you’ve
got everything you need right on the app! Use it on your
home computer or tablet or other mobile device—so
convenient!
