Choose from Connla on Thurs 16th, Dervish and Rónán Ó Snodaigh on Fri 17th and The Bonny Men with Pipers Union at The Big Blowout on Sat 18th. We are delighted to introduce a new and very special event with John Dwyer on the stunning Garinish Island on Saturday afternoon at 3pm. Also, in and around the village, there will be excellent workshops, demonstrations and sessions throughout the weekend – feel free to take part or just sit back and listen. There is no age limit but at least a basic level of ability on your instrument will be a requirement. Please bring your own instrument. Hailing from the cities of Armagh and Derry; Ciara McCafferty, Ciaran Carlin, Paul Starrett, Emer and Conor Mallon bring their innovative arrangements of traditional and modern folk songs and tunes which has earned them praise across the folk community. Rónán Ó Snodaigh SESSION TRAIL DERVISH SUPPORT Rónán Ó Snodaigh is a musician, poet and vocalist from Dublin, Ireland. He is the lead vocalist in the musical group Kíla. He has released four albums to date, Playdays, Tonnta Ró, Tip Toe and The Last Mile Home. Rónán is a master of the Bodhrán and he also plays the Djembe, the Conga, the Bongo and the guitar along with many other instruments. Dervish CONCERT FRIDAY 17th THE ECCLES HOTEL 8pm €20 Dervish are an Irish traditional music group from County Sligo who have been described by BBC Radio 3 as “an icon of Irish music”. Formed in 1989 by Liam Kelly, Shane Mitchell, Martin McGinley, Brian McDonagh and Michael Holmes and in 1991 the band were joined by Roscommon-born singer Cathy Jordan and fiddle player Shane McAleer. One of the best live traditional bands around. Des Geraghty FRIDAY 17th NICKY’S BAR 9.30pm Des will host a night of music and poetry celebrating Peadar Kearney’s The Devil’s Crew plus he will be playing in sessions throughout the village. John Dwyer SATURDAY 18th GARINISH ISLAND 3pm Named joint TG4 Traditional Composer of the Year with his brother Finbarr in 2010. Retired from An Gárda Síochána, John travels the country playing in concerts and sessions. Liam O’Connor & Séan McKeon ALL WEEKEND WORKSHOPS AND SESSION TRAIL O’Connor and McKeon, both previous recipients of the prestigious TG4 Young Musician of the Year award, are a formidable duo and have set the traditional music world alight with their powerful and dynamic performances. Their almost psychic understanding of each other’s playing sets this remarkable duo apart, and makes for an exuberant celebration of traditional Irish music in its most innovative form. The Bonny Men THE BIG BLOWOUT! SATURDAY 18th ECCLES HOTEL 8pm €20 Since releasing their highly acclaimed debut album in 2011, The Bonny Men have quickly established themselves as the hottest ticket in Irish music. Singing a mixture of original and contemporary folk songs with clever and intriguing arrangements, never shy of character or personality, every Bonny Men gig is a musical experience from start to finish with sets of tunes bursting with explosive energy. Pipers Union THE BIG BLOWOUT! SATURDAY 18th ECCLES HOTEL 8pm €20 Pipers Union are David Power, Ciarán Somers and Dónal Clancy. Combining three-part harmony song and instrumental arrangements, they treat their audience to a mix of traditional and contemporary styles, from rousing ballads, to lively dance tunes and haunting airs. Blackie O’Connell SUNDAY 19th JIM’S COFFEE HOUSE 4pm One of the most exciting uilleann pipers around he performs with gusto and his audiences are swept away by his exuberant and fast flowing piping style. Matt Cranitch & Jackie Daly SUNDAY 19th SESSION TRAIL Jackie Daly and Matt Cranitch are steeped in the traditional music of Sliabh Luachra, performing together, they always put on a great show. Siobhán Peoples SUNDAY 19th JIM’S COFFEE HOUSE 4pm The Ennis-based fiddle virtuoso straddles the rich legacy of the Clare and Donegal music traditions effortlessly. In performance her intricate style has wowed and entertained in equal measure for many years. Derek Hickey ALL WEEKEND WORKSHOPS AND SESSION TRAIL Hailing from Adare, Co Limerick, Derek has had stints with Arcady and De Danann and has shared the stage with the likes of Stéphane Grappelli and The Rolling Stones. Cór Chúil Aodha SUNDAY 19th GLENGARRIFF CHURCH 11.30am Playing at mass on the Sunday morning this reknowned choir with Peadar Ó Riada at the helm are one of the greatest ever.
