Seems like Camp is not long over and now fall and Christmas is upon us. On behalf of the parents, I would again like to thank Jordan and complete volunteer staff at camp. Your Dedication to our kids cannot be expressed in words!! Many thanks to all, who again raised money and in kind donations for camp! Thanks For your support. We receive support from many Supporters and I would like to Thank all who make our programs run from the food cupboard at the Janeway, our family support with family visit kits, The Annual Christmas Party and of course Camp Delight. Camp would not happen without some of our continued supporters. Jen Barbour of Ches‟s Fish and Chips attended our Family Day at Camp Delight in August and I am so thrilled that she did. The support Ches‟s Fish and Chips have continued to give to Camp Delight has been absolutely awesome. Thank you again for caring about families and children living with childhood cancer!! This year close to $12,000 being donated from their Sunday onion ring sales alone !! This Year The Heritage Riders association came in above and beyond with “Johanna‟s Ride the Boot” fundraiser. Close to $25,000 was raised to support Camp Delight. Reuben Noseworthy and some riders also visited camp on family day. We cannot thank Reuben and all the people who came out to support their fundraiser, which in turn benefits all our children. Again this year we had many donations that helped support camp and the Candlelighters. Harley owners group, Children's Wish Foundation, NL Power, Aliant, Fortis, Atlantic Lotto. Thank You so much! Many other donations/Fundraisers and In Kind donations are mentioned in the Newsletter. We are in the final planning stages of our 4th annual “Night of Delight” hosted by Ches‟s. This Event is taking place on Nov 6th at CLB Armoury . This event last year raised over $24,000 from Ticket sales, Live and silent auction. This year plans to be bigger and better!! Bic and the Ball points will be our entertainment. We bill be having a silent auction and live auction with Wayne Bartlett as Host. Donations and prizes are welcome. Christmas is fast approaching and of course plans are already underway for The Candlelighters Christmas Party!! The date for the Party this year is December 12th, 2010 @ The Legion in Pleasantville. I hope you all can make it to what has turned into be a Great Event!! All are welcome. Kim Fudge is the contact person for the event and would gladly accept the assistance of some parent volunteers!! Just wanted to Remind Everyone that are Website is up and running. Please visit www.candlelightersnl.ca to get Candlelighters communication on all events and happenings. At this point last year we did not have a Camp Director appointed for 2010 but I would like to Thank Jordan Peckham for taking on this role for 2 year period, Jordan stepped up and along with the Camp staff (many new counselors) they provided the Camp Delight children with a fun filled Olympic week of activities. A big part of Camp this year was Craig and the staff from M5, for a second year in a row they funded and planned the complete „Out Day‟ plans. I heard many campers say it was one of the Best Out Days we ever had. Thanks to M5 for offering your time and creating a great experience for our campers. I take this opportunity to thank the executive members:Kevin, John, Rhonda, Christine, Rose and Guy. I appreciate that there are many demands on your time and adding the volunteer work of this association to your list is sometimes demanding. You have done excellent work and we always have fun doing it. On behalf of the parents, thank you. I would also like to thank any parents who has helped throughout the year. We are always seeking parents to come forward and help with any event. If you are interested please call us and leave your name and phone number or e-mail! Hope to see you many of you at the annual Christmas Party!!! Rod The Candlelighter Page 3 2010 Johanna’s Ride the Boot... Johanna's Ride the Boot 2010, Simply Amazing!!!!!!!!! Friday evening was registration and meet and greet and we had the opportunity to meet some of the new riders registered this year. It was also a great opportunity to chat with some of the wonderful people we met last year. It was a great evening filled with lots of friendship and laughter. Johanna's presence was certainly felt on Saturday morning as some 120 plus bikers gathered outside the Marystown Hotel for line up and blessing of the bikes. You could not have asked for nicer weather, everyone was in good spirits and the mood was very uplifting. Well as all 86 bikes pulled out of the parking lot it was certainly a sight to behold. We had a rest stop in Grand Bank, where we were treated to tea, coffee, cookies and of course Barb's wonderful tea buns. A wonderful opportunity for picture taking and to have a nice chat. After a couple of small stops we headed to Smugglers Cove, for a BBQ, and fun-filled night. I would like to take the opportunity to Thank not only Reuben, Barb and The Heritage Riders but also to the many people who worked so hard "behind the scenes" to make sure this weekend happened as successfully as it did. So many people gave of their time, be it preparing salads, taking pictures, doing the BBQ, providing a building, making sure there was a band for the dance, providing breakfast, etc., it was very humbling to see. Filled with much emotion Sunday morning bought to an end a very, very successful weekend. C.J. did the draw for a motorcycle, which was up on tickets, and the lucky winner was Denise Murphy from the Goulds. But to top off all the wonderful memories we made that weekend was when Reuben presented C.J., representing Camp Delight, with a check for $22, 000.00!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tears of happiness flowed quite freely that moment. It's still sorrel to think about that. To think that all these bikers, strangers to us, would come together, work so hard and raise so much money for our oncology children, is simply amazing. No words could be said to truly convey how truly wonderful this is. I guess the only thing we can do is to say a huge THANK YOU, to Reuben and Barb Noseworthy, who are inspiring parents and are doing a truly wonderful job of keeping the memory of their precious daughter Johanna alive. To the Heritage Riders, thank you. To all the people who worked so very, very hard to make this such a successful weekend please know that we appreciate each and everyone of you. Your dedication and support of Camp Delight will always be remembered. Page 5 Page 6 The Candlelighter Camp News from Jordan Peckham Camp Report It’s one small step for camp, one giant leap into next years camp theme. Pretty awesome. But looking forward to next year, one can think about the great camp year that just passed by. Lavrock site experienced the shaking competition during this year’s Olympics. Special visits from Damian Follett, and Police Dog Zack were great. Cynthia from Hot-Hoops donated some brand new, handmade Hula-Hoops for all the campers to decorate and use. As part of the Olympics the campers travelled around the world and who could forget Chef Chicken Ball and his wife. The biggest day at camp once again this year was M5’s OutDay which brought the campers all around the city, from the Majestic Carnival, to the Marine Institutes ship deck simulator, to the Festival with the Dana Parsons Project. What a great day. And who could possibly forget Kangaroo Court this year with Myles’ special slime. Gross. All done, we are all winners because overall this year’s camp was just great. Now back to the future. We need your help with ideas for next year’s camp. If you have any ideas or anything you would like to see at camp this year, please email me at [email protected]. Can’t wait to see you at camp next year. Want to return as a counsellor? If so then apply for the CIT Program. For more information please contact Jordan Peckham, Camp Director at 745-4448 or 866-745-4448 or [email protected] Page 7 The Candlelighter Recycling Program for The Candlelighters Here is a great way everyone can help the environment and The Candlelighters!!!!
