Creative Connections
16 January – 20 February
Creative Connections is a two year programme enabling all primary schools in Halton
to take part in arts projects linked to the development of the new Mersey crossing.
Over the last term four primary schools have been working with artists to explore
design and construction, the environment and the local history of Halton. Pupils have
created exciting new work in film, sculpture and mosaic.
This programme is supported by funding from Accent Music Education Hub and their
Arts & Cultural Education Commission, and Merseylink.
If your school would like to participate in this programme, please email [email protected] Image: Insects by Kate Bufton
People of the Priory
27 February – 16 April
Norton Priory opens a brand new museum in Summer 2016, creating a world class visitor
attraction for Runcorn. As the new displays near completion we look back at the people of the
local area who have shaped the site over the past 900 years, from servants and canons, to knights
and ladies. Tales of these historical characters will mingle with 20th century memories of local
people playing in the overgrown estate or helping in the dig of the 1970s and 80s which made the
site Europe’s most excavated monastery. Portraits, artefacts and film reveal the human stories of
this unique heritage site.

Special event:
On Saturday 26 March you can explore a popup museum featuring original artefacts to handle, mystery objects to
puzzle over, mosaic tile laying and dressing up in the gallery space. Led by Norton Priory Museum Staff – free event
10am – 4pm. Suitable for children and families.
Common Ground
23 April – 11 June
Common Ground is an exhibition of works offering unique views and interpretations of spaces
along the Mersey Estuary exploring journeys and experiences of travelling on foot.
Artists Greg Fuller, Jason Hicklin and Tracy Hill will produce new work developed from different
locations along the Mersey each bringing their own unique perspective. Through a multi-disciplinary
approach this project will explore transient liminal spaces of the Mersey River.
The three artists will walk and record their journeys encouraging debate of wider issues such as
the need to document social histories and rights of way whilst balancing the protection of rare and
vulnerable habitats.

Body Image
18 June – 16 July
In partnership with NHS Halton CCG Adam Lee and Elaine Owen have worked with two groups of secondary school
children in Halton to produce a series of dramatic narrative photographs that explore the groups' ideas on body image.
Over the course of two ten week projects, the groups have worked through photography and drama skills, linked to
information around body image, to produce the images where they have taken an active role in the development and
construction of the images.
This project is supported by
12th Halton Open Art Exhibition
23 July – 20 August
Our annual opportunity for all visual artists living, working or studying in Halton to share their creativity with our audience.
Works in all media and styles welcome. Entry forms will be available in May. We are pleased to be working in partnership
again with The Studio, Widnes who will be hosting the 11-17 category of the Halton Open Art exhibition.
Landscapes & Boundaries
27 August – 8 October
Markmakers’ latest project, Landmarks & Boundaries is inspired by the
artists’ geographical location of living near to the coastline of North West
England and Wales, and their individual experiences, knowledge of tides,
islands, pathways, landmark buildings, personal histories and folklore.
The responsive works will be presented in a variety of media, including
painting, collage, sculpture, text and print.
