Franklin Park School PTO Invites ALL FPS Families and Staff to Participate in the Diwali Cultural Celebration (Indian Festival of Lights and New Year) Not Sure What Diwali Is? Diwali is a holiday celebrated by many FPS students and their families. Come to the event to get a taste of Indian culture… Learn about Diwali, its meaning and history, cultural significance and how it is celebrated in India and worldwide… ALL are invited for food, fun activities and performances….you don’t want to miss it! What the Festival of Diwali Means to You 2. Compare Your Favorite Holiday to Diwali, the Indian Festival of Lights You could include: Why and how the festival is celebrated (food, clothes, decorations, fireworks, etc.), your thoughts and feelings about the festival, etc. Criteria for Selection: The entry is the student’s original work The entry describes/depicts an aspect of the festival of Diwali and is superior in quality An independent panel of judges composed of school staff will select the best entries to recognize at the event. All entries will be displayed at the event. Due Date: Monday, November 5. Submit your essay or artwork and include student’s name, grade, teacher’s name and parent contact phone number & email on the back of the entry. Entries should be submitted to class teacher for drop‐off in PTO Mailbox in the Main Office. Fashion Show Details: Students must dress in Indian attire (let us know if you need to borrow clothes) and be comfortable on stage to participate. We can only accommodate a limited number of participants. Must RSVP by Friday, November 2 and be able to attend rehearsal on Thursday, November 15. Late RSVPs or walk‐ins on day of event will not be accepted! Group Dance Performance Details: Only groups of FPS students with a ready‐to‐perform Indian dance should respond and will be considered for selection. Audition and rehearsal may be necessary – date TBD. Send an email ASAP or no later than Friday, November 2 with dance details (song, type of dance, student names/grades, and parent coordinator name) to [email protected]. Calling all Parent Volunteers… We need your time, talent and support to make this event a success! If you can assist with any of the following, please email Chintal Mehta at [email protected] immediately or complete form below: Event Planning – join the committee and help in any and all aspects of the event Arts and Crafts Activities – plan, set‐up and supervise various activity stations Henna – we need anyone who can do simple henna designs for the kids at the event Food/Refreshments – donate home‐made or bought Indian food for sale at event; setup and supervise food station Music – provide music, entertainment system, etc. Fashion Show & Dance Performance – planning and execution Decorations – provide traditional Indian/Diwali decorations Event Set‐up and Clean‐up Volunteer Meeting is on Monday, October 29 at 7pm at FPS cafetorium.
