Location
1.
Install in a clean, dry place with good ventilation.
*
2.
If you intend to install it outdoors or where it will be subject to excessive dust or moisture, contact
us for details.
Operating temperaturę rangę is 0°C to 40°C (32°F to 104°F).
*
3.
Contact us if you intend to use this unit in high or Iow temperaturę environments.
Securely bolt this unit to a rigid, vibration-free frame.
*
Horizontal types should be installed horizontally. Install vertical types (shaft up and shaft down)
vertically, or lubrication problems will result. Contact us for slanted installations.
4.
Installation place should be convenient for maintenance and inspection.
*
Install this unit approximately lOcm (4") from the floor and provide a top clearance of 30cm (12")
for easy access for filling and draining oil.
*
When this unit is installed inside a machinę, position it so that oil level can be easily checked, oil can
be added, and changed using pipes.

Connections
1.
Allow sufficient rpm and torąue margins.
* For operating the driven machinę at its maximum speed, connect RINGCONE UNIT so that it also
*
runs at its maximum speed.
For machines whose torque increases at lower speed (constant horsepower characteristics), make surę
the maximum torąue of your Ringcone variable speed drive is within the specified torąue limits.
2.
W hen connecting, do n o t a p p ly im p acts o r excessive th ru s t loads to o u tp u t and in p u t s h a fts .
®
Diameters of input and output shafts are finished to a tolerance of h6. Finish the bores of coupling, pulley,
chain sprocket, and gear to h7, and lightly tap with a wooden or plastic hammer to install.
cibly, internal bearings can be damaged.
1
®
Chamfer the borę to approximately 1 mm (0.04”).
©
Provide a clearance of about 0.1 to 0.2- mm (0.004” to 0.008”) over the key top.
@
Secure the key with a set bolt.
If driven for-
Noto: The coupling, pulley, chain sprocket, gear, etc.
must have an effective diameter 3 to 5 times that of the output (input) shaft diameter.
Shaft ends must be protected against impacts, vibrations and excessive thrust loads transmitted from
the machinę.
(•Refer to catalog for permissible shaft loads.)
3.
Perform centering properly for connections.
*For connection with coupling.
Install your Ringcone variable speed drive so that the center of its shaft is perfectly aligned with
the center of the shaft of the driven machinę.

*
Before operation
Unless otherwise specified, Ringcone variable speed drives are shipped from the filled with the necessary
ąuantity of lubricating oil. Therefore, no oil needs to be added. (Check that the oil level is at the center
of oil gauge before operation.)
* Remove the red rubber pressure-release pług from the breather cap at the oil inlet port before operation.
For Ringcone variable speed drives ( G,N or W type) eąuipped with speed reducers, also remove the red
rubber pressure-release pług from oil fili pług of the speed reducer.

2. Check that electrical wiring is proper.
3.
Check that connection of the driven machinę is proper (fitting, centering, etc.).
4.
When starting a new Ringcone yariable speed drive for the first time, check for correct rotational direction
of output shaft and apply load gradually.
2 -2
1.
D uring operation
To change speed, turn the speed change handle during operation. Never turn the handle while the unit is
stop.
2
2. Test run should be performed beginning with no load operation.
3.
Avoid sudden stop or reverse rotation especially for driven machines with large inertia masses.
4. Higher speed rangę should be used normally for high durability and Tong service life.
5.
Use special care to prevent overload.
Measure current with a grip ammeter or torque with a spring balance, and set the measured value within
the rated value specified in the catalog.
LUBRICATING OILS
3 -1
Approved lubricating oils
Ludricating oils play an important role for proper operation and extended service life. Therefore, use only the
specified lubricating oils. (Never use machinę oil or engine oil.)
*Different lubricating oils are used for speed change and speed reduction sectións.

D aily inspection
1.
Check for abnormally high temperatures during operation.
2.
Check for abnormal noise in bearing, transmission area, etc.
3.
Check for abnormal vibration.
*Proper temperatura is the ambient temperaturę plus 40 °C (104°F).
* If any abnormality is found, immediately stop the unit and inspect. If problem cannot be corrected, contact
us.
4. Check that oil level is at the approximate center of the oil gauge. (Check when stopped.)
5.
Check for contamination by looking through the oil through the oil gauge.
6.
Check for oil leakage from oil seal, 0-ring , oil gauge, oil fili plugt drain port, etc. of output shaft area.
*If oil leakage is found, replace related parts or contact us.
4 -2
Periodical inspection (every three montbs)
1. Check for excessive overload.
2. Check for loose set bolts on pulley, sprocket and unit.
3. Check for electrical system defects.
4.
*If abnormal sounds are generated, immediately stop the unit and disassemble it to inspect. If problem can
not be corrected, contact us.
5. Lubricating oil change
Check oil level and' oil ąuality. Determine if oil shoud be changed.

6 -1
Disassembly
D isassem bly procedurę
1.
Remove the drain pług and completely drain oil.
2. Remove the top cover.
3.
Remove the output shaft assembly from the body.
4.
Remove the planet cone assembly from the output shaft assembly.
5.
Remove the ring assembly.
6.
Remove the sun wheel from the cone shaft.
Inspection and cleaning
• After disassembly, inspect all parts and wash them in kerosene.
• Replace defective parts.
(Disassembled parts should be stored in a clean area until needed for reassembly.)
6 -2
Reassembly
• Reassembly should be done in the reverse order of disassembly.
NoteiApply Three Bond 1104 over all jointing surfaces of the M-flange, output shaft holder, motor body case
and cover. Remove all boriding agents with thinner or solvent before applying new Three Bond.
