Founded with the objectives of promoting Lake Maggiore as a destination for
conventions and events on the domestic and international markets, the Lago
Maggiore Conference association brings together the main professional
operators in this area, which boasts a wealth of large-scale extremely high
quality facilities. Lago Maggiore Conference works with the support of the
Chamber of Commerce of Verbano Cusio Ossola, which encouraged its
establishment.
The association has a multi-lingual professional team, at the service of
potential clients to provide information on organising conventions,
conferences and incentive trips on Lake Maggiore.

A ferry that also transports cars, connects the Lombardy side of the lake with
the Piedmont side at Laveno and Verbania-Intra. The crossing lasts around 15

PRE- AND POST-CONGRESS LEISURE TIME
There is a wide selection of different leisure activities, not to mention the
chance of organising tours on Lake Maggiore.
The Lake is our number one attraction. It is a truly enchanting sight, set in the
foothills of the majestic Alps; its clear waters and its size, which means that
visitors can enjoy boat rides and numerous water sports, and its flowered
banks have made it famous throughout the world. A simple stroll, or a boat ride
to visit the Borromeo islands or the Monastery of Santa Caterina, after a
successful convention, can provide emotions that will make visitors remember
their stay for a long time. In the warmer seasons (the majority of the year,
thanks to the lake’s mild climate) you can even sunbathe on well-equipped
beaches, swim or try your hand at various water sports.
Parks and gardens. The area around Lake Maggiore offers more than 300
square kilometres of protected natural parks, from the Val Grande, the largest
wilderness in Italy, to the Ticino, passing through the Campo dei Fiori Regional
Park on the Lombardy side of the lake and the Mottarone, whose summit at an
altitude of 1491 metres can be easily reached by taking the cableway that
leaves from the centre of Stresa. The Verbano area is renowned for its
production of acidophilus plants such as camellias, rhododendrons and azaleas
which flourish here thanks to the temperate-humid climate, to the soil and 150
years of experience. The gardens of Villa Taranto, Villa San Remigio in Pallanza,
Villa Bernocchi in Premeno and the Borromeo Islands are well worth a visit.
Sports that can be practised on Lake Maggiore, and in the immediate
vicinity, with well-equipped facilities and qualified instructors: canoeing, sailing,
windsurfing, kitesurfing, catamaran, swimming, skin-diving, kayaking, rafting,
canyoning, paragliding, delta-planing, gliding, horse-riding, golf (there are 15
greens around the lake), cycling, mountain biking, trekking, climbing, bicycle
touring, ski touring and cross-country skiing.
For those that love the relaxing atmosphere of a spa, there are many facilities
offering water treatments: from Crodo to Tasquera, from Craveggia to Premia,
not to mention Bognanco and Vanzone.
Art-lovers will discover treasures on the Lake that will justify one, if not more
trips, after a convention, maybe a romantic getaway, or a break with friends or
family. Here are just a few of the wide selection available:
tUIFBorromee Islands - Isola Bella and Isola Madre, situated in the centre of
Lake Maggiore, where you can visit the seventeenth century residence of the
historic Borromeo family (still owners of the islands) with its splendid Italian
gardens, maintained to perfection;
tUIFRocca Borromeo di Angera - where visitors can admire splendid
frescoes dating back to the 13th century that portray local history.
The Rocca, which can also be accessed by boat, houses the largest doll
museum in Europe;
tthe Gignese Umbrella and Parasol Museum - where around 1500
objects are displayed, dating from the 19th century to the present day;
tIsland of San Giulio on Lake Orta: is a tiny island which is only 300 m long
and 160m wide situated in the centre of Lake Orta. An ancient legend tells of an
island infested by dragons and snakes, defeated one day by a devout traveller,
Giulio, who had fled from the persecutions of the Christian in IV century Greece:
he spread his cloak on the waters of the lake and crossed it without getting wet.
tUIFNZTUJDUPVSUIFSacred Mounts. Sacro Monte Calvario di Domodossola,
Santa Trinità di Ghiffa, Sacro Monte di Varallo: itineraries in settings of
exceptional beauty, peppered with frescoed chapels of considerable artistic and
historic, as well as religious value.
t Hermitage of Caterina del Sasso: set in a rock, overhanging the lake,
it hosts works of considerable artistic worth. Recently restored, it can be
reached either from the water or dry land, and enjoys an exceptional view.
Visitors will marvel in the efforts made to build this church clinging to the rock.
Shopping is a real source of entertainment on Lake Maggiore, which hosts
some of the most internationally well-known names in household articles,
textiles and clothing: Alessi, Lagostina, Bialetti, Puppieni, Piazza, Ruffoni, Italo
Ottenetti, Loro Piana and many more. These companies all have outlets open to
the public, where visitors can make their purchases at very good prices.
The local cuisine is very varied and tasty, and ranges from lake specialities to
those of the mountains. Filets of bass, break, pike, trout, risottos, Tapulon
(donkey meat cooked in red wine), Cuchela (potatoes cooked with pork spare
ribs and bacon in a traditional lava stone pan), or even Bagianada (mangetout
with lard and red wine) and gnocchi from the Val d’Ossola made with chestnut
flour. The salami and cold meats are also worth a mention, especially the
bresaola and the mortadella in the traditional folded form of the Val d’Ossola,
the ham and spiced lard of the Val Vigezzo or even the violino di capra [goat
leg] common to the entire area, as are the cheeses, from the Ossolano d’Alpe
or Bettelmatt, a full-fat cheese made from cow’s milk, to Spress, to be savoured
with Stinchett or Amiasc, very thin, soft flat bread that should be eaten while it
is still warm, the former made with wheat flour, the latter with rye flour, or with
the black bread of Coimo made with rye flour, and Val Grande honey. Lastly, for
dessert, guests can savour small delicacies such as Brotjê or Kruschli fritters,
the former small and round, the latter thin and rectangular, the Fugascine di
Mergozzo, squares of short pastry with Marsala, the Margheritine di Stresa, a
very crumbly biscuit created in honour of the visit of Princess Margherita of
Savoy to Stresa, made with butter and shaped in the form of a margherita
[margherita is used as a proper name and also means daisy], the Pan dolce di
Cannobio, made from hazelnut flour and almonds, or even the latest additions,
the Intresine, a crunchy delicacy covered in almonds and filled with chocolate.
The legendary Prunent, a wine with an intense aroma that has been produced
since 1300, has recently regained favour, while latest additions include the
Nouv Bruschett which has a smooth, slightly tannic taste or the full-bodied Cà
d’Maté.

At the end of the 19th century the original villa was demolished,
and a much larger villa in an eclectic neo-baroque style was built
in its place. The grandeur of the building still strikes the visitors
even today. The villa and its wonderful garden dating back 1820,
continue to welcome the guests with the colours of the azaleas,
to enchant them with the scent of the roses and the romanticism
of the lake. It is the ideal place for gala events up to 400 people.

This beautiful villa facing the Piedmont part of Lake Maggiore
was a wedding gift given to Princess Luisa Dal Pozzo Della Cisterna in 1827 by her soon-to-be husband who chose the villa as his
mansion on the lake. Nowadays it belongs to the Marquises Dal
Pozzo D’Annone. This charming and romantic venue is one of the
oldest villas on the lake, and continues to maintain the flavour
of the Victorian Era. Furniture, fittings and prestigious paintings
from the 16th to the 19th century make it really unique and
authentic. The view is stunning, and is set against a century-old
park with lush vegetation, rare and antique species among waterfalls, azaleas, rhododendrons, cameillias, magnolias and hydrangeas. The villa is the perfect setting for unforgettable receptions
and parties. The four main halls, overlooking the terrace, with a
breathtaking view of Lake Maggiore, can hold up to 160 guests.
The terrace with an English style lawn can hold up to 230 guests.
The large swimming pool area is ideal for lovely cocktails or
relaxing after-dinner celebrations. The private pier allows guests
to reach the location from the lake with private boats.

In the suggestive scenery of Lake Maggiore, one can admire the most characteristic island of the Borromeo Gulf, the Fishermen’s Island, inhabited
mainly by fishermen who still today practice the profession of their fathers,
and gave name to this strip of land.
It was in this context that Restaurant La Pescheria was born, taking its
name directly from its main activity during the 1930s: the fishshop, the only
one of the islands, selling fish to the whole province and beyond.
The daily fished fish, white fish, allis shad, lake trout and perch, are the
specialities that can be tasted at La Pescheria.
At Restaurant Verbano the delicate flavours of the lake combine with the
more hearty ones of the Ossola Valleys, in a unique blend that will delight
even the most discerning palates.
Fresh fish from Lake Maggiore, served just a few hours after it is caught, is
a feature of our menus, but there are also delicious dishes from the nearby
