Twenty-seven missioners from RLBC will be partnering with the Alabama CBF-affiliated organization, Sowing Seeds of
Hope. Sowing Seeds of Hope is a multi-denominational partnership focused on assisting the Perry County community
through home repair and housing solutions, healthcare assistance, educational resources, and more.
Perry County, Alabama is one of the 20 poorest counties in America and is designated as the poorest county in Alabama
in terms of household income.
We will be housed in the dormitories at Judson College, in Marion, Alabama. Judson College is the fifth oldest women’s
college in the United States.
The youth and children of RLBC have raised $3500 to Supply a Brighter Future with backpacks for 250 students in
Marion, Alabama.
Mission Statement of Sowing Seeds of Hope
To improve the equality of living and working in Perry County through an improved needs and further economic and human
development through enhanced social agricultural markets, housing, health care, transportation, promoting tourism,
recreational areas, and attracting retirees and desired economic development tools.
The next issues of The Mosaic are scheduled for July 20 & August 3, 2016.
The deadline for submissions will be 5:00 p.m. Tuesday prior to the date of publication.

Terry York, Guest Preacher – July 10
Terry W. York is Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Professor of Christian
Ministry and Church Music at Baylor University’s George W. Truett Theological
Seminary. He joined the faculty in 1998 after serving three years as the Associate
Pastor of Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas, TX. He received the Bachelor of Arts
degree from California Baptist University and his Master of Church Music and Doctor
of Musical Arts degrees from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
He has been Minister of Music in churches in California and Arizona. From 19841995 he served at the Baptist Sunday School Board (now LifeWay Christian
Resources) in Nashville, TN. His duties there included being the Project Coordinator
for The Baptist Hymnal, 1991. In all, Dr. York has published more than 40 hymns including the well-known Worthy of
Worship. His hymn Give Us Courage was commissioned by the Truett Seminary administration and approved by the Truett
Seminary faculty as the official Seminary Hymn in 2006. In addition to his hymns, Dr. York has published more than 60
choral anthem texts set by composers such as Bob Burroughs, David Danner, Tom Fettke, Benjamin Harlan, Mary
McDonald, Earlene Rentz, David Schwoebel, Joseph Martin, Vicki Hancock Wright, Taylor Scott Davis, Dan Goeller, Vicki
Tucker Courtney, and Victor C. Johnson.
The Worship Matrix, co-authored with David Bolin (Celebrating Grace, Inc., 2010), is the fourth of Dr. York’s books to have
been translated into Chinese. In June 2008 it was his privilege to be one of two featured plenary speakers at The World
Association of Chinese Church Musicians’ biannual conference which met in Kuching, Malaysia. In June 2009, the Baptist
Church Music Conference, meeting in Nashville, TN, gave Dr. York the W. Hines Sims Award, its most prestigious
recognition.

Dr. York and his wife, Janna, have two children and three grandchildren.

Guest Preacher – July 17
Shelly Matthews holds the ThD from the Harvard Divinity School, the MDiv from Boston
University School of Theology, and the BA from the University of North Dakota. Before
arriving at Brite in 2011, she was the Dorothy and B.H. Peace Jr., Associate Professor of
Religion at Furman University, in Greenville South Carolina, where she taught for 13 years.
She is an ordained United Methodist Minister (Dakotas Area Conference), and served three
years in parish ministry in North Dakota before entering graduate school.
She currently co-chairs the Society of Biblical Literature Section on Early Jewish and Christian Relations, and was the cofounder and served for six years as co-chair of the SBL section on Violence and Representations of Violence Among Jews
and Christians. She also serves on editorial boards for the Journal of Biblical Literature, Lectio Dificilior and Feminist
Studies in Religion Books. Her research interests include feminist biblical interpretation, the Acts of the Apostles, early
Jewish Christian relations, and Paul in the second century.
