Carrie Hassler
Joins the SEBA Family
At a recent performance, most of the
audience had never seen or heard of her. And
when she was done, it's likely they'll never
forget either. Women singers, like Carrie
Hassler, with a distinctive down to earth
soulful driving bluegrass voice that delivers
a powerful and energetic performance is a
rare thing. Having made a name for herself
with her Hard Rain band, Carrie has moved
on to a new chapter in her career. She came
off the road a bit this year to pause and
SEBA member Carrie Hassler
reflect. Although she's still touring, she's
enjoying some 'home time' with her husband. They have even opened up a
small restaurant near their home. But, her love of music and a few IBMA
nominations are still driving Carrie to new horizons and opportunities.
SEBA welcomes Carrie to the family and wishes for her ,all out best for what
we know will be a long and illustrious career. FYI Carrie is currently
recording a new album for Rural Rhythm Records to be released late 2011.
This highly anticipated new album is being produced by Steve Gulley
(Grasstowne), so stay tuned for more updates! Carrie is now on tour.

Last month “simply communicating with us” was
part of my message to you. This month that
message is magnified by an omission of a special
series of events that occurred in North Georgia last
month.
The foundations involved were all working toward
a common goal of restoring some of the damage
done by the “Dixie Outbreak” of tornadoes in April. Learn more about about Al, Dana and this event
Among the community members leading the effort
at http://www.northgabluegrass.com/
in the Ellijay area were our own Al and Dana
Henderson. Their efforts organized bluegrass entertainment and other activities for the events.
Unfortunately SEBA was not as involved as one might expect.
Each month we receive many press releases and announcements about events. No excuses can
change the fact that we can not do, or be everything to or for everyone. The communication of events
is one of our primary duties and the lack of volunteers often contributes to the omission of some
events. To Al, Dana and their community go our most sincere apologies. Their dedication to their
friends and community are exemplary.
Although it is not the answer or total solution to reporting events, a better understanding of the
importance of using the FREE SEBA posting service on the website assures that the message will get
out to the public and other SEBA members (over 2500 people). When posting your (or anyone else's
events) there is a space for a description of up to 500 words which can include anything from times,
dates, directions and even ticket information. This information can be (but not guaranteed) extracted
for publication in the Breakdown. In any case, a great deal of time expense was invested in this FREE
service and we will continue to try to get folks to better understand and use it.
All my best,
C.S. “Charlie” Robinson
Until next month keep posting those events at

Giving Back
Tater People...
Some people never seem
motivated to participate, but are
just content to watch others do
the work. They are called
"Speck Taters."
A master dulcimer performer,
teacher
and
Mid-Eastern
Regional Dulcimer Champion of
2004. SEBA has long recognized
Paul as one of the community's
most effective and giving
supporters of bluegrass music.
Currently, Paul is the Project
Coordinator for the Bluegrass
Bands Helping Hands Benefits
Paul Byrum
that have been ongoing for a few
years now. Here is the latest project Paul is working on, which
includes some of SEBA's members and supporters.
Some people never do anything
to help, but are gifted at finding
fault with the way others do the
work. They are called
"Comment Taters."
Some people are very bossy
and like to tell others what to
do, but don't want to soil their
own hands. They are called
"Dick Taters."
Some people are always
looking to cause problems by
asking others to agree with
them. It is too hot or too cold,
too sour or too sweet. They are
called "Agie Taters."
There are always those who
say that they will help, but
somehow just never get around
to doing the promised help.
They are called "Hezzie
Taters."
Some people can put up a front
and pretend to be someone
they are not. They are called
"Emma Taters."
Then there are those who love
others and do what they say
they will. They are always
prepared to stop whatever they
are doing and lend a helping
hand. They bring real sunshine
into the lives of others. They
are called.

Bluegrass
For those who enjoy
Bluegrass Gospel
by Tristan Tuttle
“You Can’t Shake Jesus”
Kate (my sister) told me about this song that
Ricky Skaggs came out with last year called
“Can’t Shake Jesus” and I immediately fell in
love with it. I don’t know if y’all have heard it
or not, but if you haven’t, you definitely should
give it a listen. Besides the fact that it has a
really interesting tune with minors and an
unusual chord progression, the lyrics are what
really get you.
Naked alone, cold cobblestones, they beat Him
until the blood ran.
They brought Him to die on a cross up on high
with spikes through His feet and His hands.
You can use Him, abuse Him, mock and accuse
Him.
Sell Him out for thirty pieces.
Betray Him, slay Him, do the devil's mayhem,
but you can't shake Jesus
When you really think about it, it makes no
sense why God sent Jesus to die for us. We are
nothing. Our lives are vapor, yet he sent Jesus to
suffer such indignities so that we might be
saved. And if that wasn’t enough, he continues
to pursue us.
I've tried to resist, escape and dismiss, but
there's One who's shadowing me.
I can lose my religion, break with tradition, say
I'll hold out till Hell freezes.
I can test Him, try Him, but I just can't deny
Him.
No I can't shake Jesus.
He loves us so much that He refuses to give up
on us. He still wants us even when we refuse
His grace. This song is a wonderful reminder of
such a great and glorious gift.
I hope that if you listen to this song, it touches
you like it has me. I hope your September is
awesome and as always, you can email me at
[email protected]. Thanks
for reading, friends!
Tristan
An old Cherokee told his grandson,
"My son, there is a battle between two wolves inside us all. One is
evil. It is Anger, Jealousy, Greed, Resentment, Inferiority, Lies, &
Ego. The other is good. It is Joy, Peace, Love, Hope, Humility,
Kindness, Empathy, & Truth."
The boy thought & asked, "Grandfather, which wolf wins?"
The old man quietly replied, "The one you feed." -

Penni Justice
McDaniel
The SEBA BREAKDOWN
www.sebabluegrass.org
Although you may not know it ,SEBA Member Penni Justice McDaniel gives a lot to the bluegrass community with little
recognition. For several years we have noticed her emails that come consistently through the e-mailbox. And many times we
have highlighted the things she has reported. The very reserved and modest McDaniel lives in , Lawrenceville, Ga and
operates the highly successful Hope River Entertainment. From representing recording companies and artists, to booking
bluegrass acts, this lady stays on top to her customer's and the public's need for up to date
communications & information. SEBA is proud to have great folks like Penni as members.

SEBA Proud!
Jimmy “Duck” Adkins
The former SEBA President continues to give back as he counts his
blessings. The patriarch of the Cedar Hill Band has been on a
mission to Ghana Africa to teach and inspire the children of one of
the most impoverished people on the planet. We are so proud to
have Jim as a SEBA member and a man who understands the value
of unselfishly giving to benefit others. Salute Jimmy Adkins!

of the keys to the band's success for 30 years Congratulations,

Simple Questions and a Simple Answer
Q. Why aren't my favorite events and bands listed in the
SEBA Efans Bluegrass Happenings weekly newsletter?
A. Because no one posted it to the SEBA website.
Q. How can we fix this?
A. Contact your favorite events or bands (SEBA membership
not required) and get them to use the FREE service.
In case you missed it. The SEBA website has a very
expensive FREE posting function that anyone can use.
Although we get dozens of event announcements, there are
simply not enough volunteers to report them all. Therefore
SEBA set up this service to insure the reporting.
