Castelluccio di Norcia Valley, a colorful place into
CASTELLUCCIO DI NORCIA VALLEY, A COLORFUL PLACE
INTO THE MONTI SIBILLINI NATIONAL PARK
If you are going to plan a trip to Umbria (Italy) you have to visit
Castelluccio Valley. It is 1,452 meters above sea level and during summer
time (end of June), you can watch the wonderful show known as “the bloom”.
A thousand flowery fields from yellow to red, from purple to turquoise will
enchant your eyes.
There is not a best or worst time to visit Castelluccio Valley. During the
winter it becomes a real white mirror as in a fairy tale and in summer time
you can take part to the bloom. It is impossible to determine the exact time
for the bloom, it varies from year to year. According to the weather, it
conventionally decided one day that coincides with the “Flowering Fest” (this
year was on June 28, 2015).
Depending on the period we will have more or less flower species with more or
fewer colors. You can see lentils, gentianellas, poppies, daffodils, violets,
daffodils, purple eugeniae, clovers, shamrocks and many more. Everything
depends on various climatic factors (sunshine, rain etc.).
You won’t miss a pic with the Italy silhouette made of trees.
You can also take a ride on horseback or horse-drawn carriage around the
valley.
This is the view I saw this year. A predominance of yellow with some flash of
red here and there.
The hamlet (Castelluccio) is very nice and not far from Norcia. Walking
through the narrow streets you will find several terraces overlooking the
Valley.
Obviously in these spaces so vast and boundless I brought my little Milady
with me to breathe some clean mountain air.
