A
WORD FROM THE
PRESIDENT
Greetings from New Mexico,
The Land of Enchantment, a land
of plains, plateaus, and mountains,
famous for the great variety and
magnificent colors of its scenery.
The attraction to our area is not
only attributable to the scenic
beauty of New Mexico’s deserts
and mountains, but also by the
rich Native American and Spanish
cultures that distinguish the state.
Just as New Mexico has a deep,
rich culture and history, so does
our company. Established in
1943 as a small supply house
in Gallup, New Mexico, catering
to the Native American craftsman
producing traditional heritage art,
Indian Jewelers Supply Company
(IJS) has grown to four locations,
serving customers worldwide.
As a multi-cultural employee
owned company, we pride
ourselves in the personal
attention we give to our
customers as well as our prompt
mail order service and the line of
quality products that we carry.
Your business is important to us
and we value you as a
customer. We would like you to
know us as, “the go to people you
can grow with”.
We hope that you will enjoy our
latest catalog. Our goal is to reach
out to all of the jewelry industry’s
reseller’s, manufacturers, craftsmen and hobbyists. IJS now manufactures its own brand of diamond
nd saw
blades. These saw blades are made by our company here in the USA: The IJS Diamond Edition, and
nd the more
aggressive IJS Tomahawx Blade. For more information please see the diamond saw blade
section in this catalog.
If you don’t find what you are looking for in this catalog, please inquire as to its
availability. Your inquires are one source available to help us search out old, new
and different items used in the jewelry manufacturing trade.

FINE SILVER
Fine silver is 99.9% pure silver. Its softness makes it
ideal for inlaying, and as a bezel material for
stonesetting. Its high melting point (1761°F/961°C)
helps it to handle the rigors of enamelling.
International designation is 999.

Preparation — You will need:
• A magnet (to get out iron filings).
• A kitchen strainer (to sift out filings).
• Pen and paper
• Heavy plastic bags (to ship the scrap).
1 Separate the scrap by alloy and quality class.
There are three quality classes:
• Class A: unsoldered, unheated, clean.
• Class B: Soldered/heated, free of adhesives,
base metal findings, and stones.
• Class C: Cast jewelry, sprues, solders, filings,
and jewelry with base metal findings.
2 Package and label the scrap.
3 Write a letter of instruction with your scrap, including your name, address, phone number(s),
and customer number. Be sure to tell us how to
apply the value of your scrap.
4 Ship the parcel to this address:
I.J.S., 601 East Coal Avenue
Gallup, NM 87301-6005
Your scrap value will be credited according to
the precious metals quotes of the day that the
scrap was received at I.J.S. The value of sterling
and fine silver scrap, or karat gold scrap, is
higher when you trade it to us for merchandise rather than cash. That higher value also
applies when scrap is given in full or partial
payment of an open account. When scrap is received to pay for a shipment of precious metals
in transit, that scrap will be credited according
to the market of the outstanding shipment.
We pay a percentage of the daily Handy and
Harman BASE silver quote:

Generally, higher silver content indicates higher melt/flow point for the solder in question. An exception exists with Easy-Flo 30.
Higher flow temperature of Easy-Flo 30, in comparison with Easy-Flo 45, is attributed to the higher zinc content of Easy-Flo 30.

FOR CASTING
It is recommended that when SCRAP gold is being used in castings that it be
mixed with equal amounts of GRAIN. The grain has a higher zinc content that
helps reduce the potential for porosity in the casting.

Start with the gold you have, and find the weight of the non-gold
portion.
12K = 50% gold, 50% non-gold (alloy)
Divide the alloy weight of the gold you have by the percentage of
alloy in the higher karat. The result is the total weight of the raised
karat.
5 dwt of alloy in 12K gold
14K = 58.33% gold, 41.67% alloy
5 ÷ 0.4167 = 11.99 dwts of 14K gold
From the total weight of the higher karat, subtract the total weight
of the lower karat. The result is the total weight of 24K gold
required to achieve the higher purity.

WARNING! *CADMIUM
Cadmium is considered a health hazard! Fumes are poisonous, do not breathe them. Even brief exposures
to high concentrations should be avoided. Keep children away when using these brazing alloys. Use only
with enough ventilation, exhaust at the work, or both to keep the fumes from your breathing zone and the
general area. If this cannot be done, use air supplied respirators. Failure to do so can result in exposure in
excess of limits recommended by AGDIH-OSHA. If chest pain, shortness of breath, cough, or fever develop
after use, get medical help immediately.

GOLDFILLED?
IS
A plywood of jewelry metal.
• It is a lamination of gold and #230 brass. The ratio of precious
to composition metal, by weight, is expressed with a percent
age. Our gold laminates are stocked in 1/20-12K, 1/20-14K,
1/10-14K, and 1/10-10K.
GOLD LAYER
• Since the precious metal layer is thin, care must be taken not
to burn or polish through it when soldering or buffing. For the
best finished appearance, the jewelry should be plated after all
other finishing has been done.
• In handling this material, we attempt to label only the precious
side with gauge marks. When in doubt, a drop of concentrated
nitric acid can be used to test. The acid will have a greenish,
boiling reaction on the composition metal, and little reaction to
the gold.

What Is Silv

? A plywood of jewelry

225
It is a lamination of sterling silver and #752 nickel. The ratio of precious to composition metal, by weight, is expressed with a percentage.
We stock 10% and 25% silverfilled.
Since the precious metal layer is thin, care must be taken not to burn or polish through it when soldering or buffing. For the best finished
appearance, the jewelry should be plated after all other finishing has been done.
In handling this material, we endeavour to label only the precious side with gauge marks. When in doubt, a drop of nitric acid can be used
to test. The acid will have a greenish, boiling reaction on the composition metal, and little or no reaction to the precious metal.
2 5 % S I LV E R F I L L E D S H E E T , SINGLE-CLAD
One quarter (25%) of the sheet weight is sterling silver, bonded to nickel
CDA#752. Sold in full or half-sheets only, 36 or 18” long, respectively.

Did you
u Know?
? Nickel Silver has no silver!
Nickel (C.D.A. #752) is a combination of 65% copper, 18% nickel, and
17% zinc. Fancy names are given to the product, like German Silver
and Nickel Silver. White Brass would be a better name, given the high
amount of copper, the zinc content, and the relatively low percentage
of nickel.

SOFT SOLDERS
235
Recommended for use with ferrous and plated findings. Why? Soft solders melt at lower temperatures, helping eliminate firescale. Finishing work is kept to a
minimum, so platings are less likely to be polished off. The temper of spring closures is also less likely to be affected by the low soldering temperatures.
S TAY - B R I T E ® S O L D E R & S TAY - C L E A N F L U X
STAY-BRITE: for non-ferrous metals (gold, silver, copper, brass, bronze, nickel). Excellent
for joining dissimilar metals. Flows at 430ºF, can work with a soldering iron. Composition is 96%
tin, 4% silver. Tensile strength is 10,000 to 25,000 psi.
STAY-CLEAN FLUX is great for copper, brass, and bronze. Pre-cleaning is not necessary
unless parts are dirty or oily.

PMC+™ Clay
Fires harder, shrinks less, and is less plastic than Original PMC. This is desirable for maintaining the size of a ring/earring. The stronger molecular bond of
PMC+™ makes it the ideal candidate for rings, which receive lots of wear. It’s
great for repairs, and for the instructional setting. Instructions included.

P A R A G O N S C 2 ( S I LV E R C L AY ) K I L N
Popular with teachers, and small studio jewelers. Quickly fires metal clays, glass,
and enamels at temperatures up to 2000°F
Accomplish almost anything you desire with the SC2: fire metal clay, fuse dichroic glass, enamel silver and copper, fire and glaze bisque, co-fire gemstones,
glass and metal clay, co-fire sterling silver and metal clay and more!
The heart of the kiln is the reliable Sentry Xpress 3-button digital controller with
5 speed settings and 4 program settings. The speed settings are single segment
ramp/hold programs, which simply heats to a target temperature, holds that
temperature for the specified amount of time and then shuts itself off. Simplicity
meets safety and adds up to peace of mind!
The ceramic fiber interior has heating elements embedded within the fiber shell.
This offers great protection for travelling. For convenience, the power source is
any working 120V outlet.

This compact brick kiln has handles for portability, but constant travel is not recommended.
Set-and-forget operations are made possible by the Orton digital controller. 20 different firing schedules are pre-programmed, and blank slots are provided for
your own unique firing schedules. All programs are easily editable for fine-tuning. The single heating element is wrapped around the interior twice. Copper and

HOLD-FOR-PAYMENT orders held for over 15 calendar days will be charged a 10% restocking fee. Any shipping charges incurred will still be payable. No further shipments will be made until these charges are paid in full. U.P.S. and the Postal Service hold packages for a VERY limited time. We can re-ship packages
on your request, and you will be liable for the additional shipping charges. The restock charge also applies to returns made for reasons other than I.J.S. errors
or faulty goods. UNCLAIMED C.O.D.’s returned to I.J.S. will be charged the 10% restocking fee when the items are returned to stock. We would rather not need
to restock and levy the fee.
Shortage - Damage - Mis-shipment Claims
Discuss damages with the carrier (U.P.S., Postal Service, etc.) as soon as possible. Please inspect the package thoroughly and report any damage before you
sign for it. To establish a claim on goods improperly shipped or damaged, you must notify I.J.S. within 10 days after receipt of the goods. After 10 days, notifications will be treated as normal returns. Shortage claims must be made within ten business days after receipt of shipment.
Returns
Returns must be accompanied by a copy of the relevant invoice and a brief explanatory note. For returns made 30 calendar days after merchandise receipt,
invoice and note must be included, and 10% restocking fees will be levied. Returned merchandise received by I.J.S. with insufficient written information may
be refused and shipped back to
you. Send returns to Indian Jewelers Supply, 601 E. Coal Avenue, Gallup, NM 87301. For your protection, ship all returns prepaid and insured. We will refund
your return postage when appropriate.

Indian Jewelers Supply Company disclaims any responsibility for damage or personal injury resulting from products being used improperly or
from being repaired or modified by others or from abuse or use beyond normal product life expectancy.
Specifications of the goods listed will be maintained wherever possible, but we reserve the right to make changes when necessary. Errors and
