Dear Parents, Students, Alumni and Friends:
Twenty-three years ago I arrived at the Delphian School, eager to contribute to what I knew was an exceptional
school community. I was immediately impressed with the high standards set for both students and staff, and with
the founding staff for the groundbreaking school they had envisioned back in 1976. In the years since, Delphian
has come to be recognized for its leadership regionally and nationally in putting in place a new set of educational
fundamentals, and for creating dynamic graduates with real-world abilities.
It has been an honor to serve this community in many roles, most recently as Headmistress for almost fifteen years.
Helping children and young adults blossom and gain in wisdom, personal ethics and competence has given me
great joy. Looking back now on my early days here, I’m amazed by how much growth all of us have achieved, and
how much personal growth my family’s move to Oregon has made possible. After this school year, however, my
role will be changing.
For several years now, I have been in discussion with members of the school’s Board and executives about the next
stage of my own development and the passing of the baton to a new Head of School. That time has now come,
and as of Fall 2015, I will be retiring as Headmistress.
My plan is not full retirement; I will continue to be involved with Delphian on a part-time basis, leaving more time
for traveling, helping the broader local community and pursuing personal areas of interest.
I can’t yet say exactly what my next role here will be. Certainly, I will help ensure the transition will be smooth;
I’ll be involved with the school’s Development Office; and I’ll continue to be part of the team that represents
Delphian to the broader public.
I have the greatest respect and admiration for Trevor Ott, the Board’s choice as my successor, with whom I have
worked for many years. I have no doubt that the school will flourish under his leadership.
It has been a great pleasure to serve all of you: you have been my friends, my family, my team. While so much has
been accomplished, there is still much to do. And since our vision takes us well beyond where we are now, I look
forward to our ongoing interaction.
Very truly yours,
Rosemary Didear
Headmistress

Dear Parents and Members of the Delphian School community:
All groups must, from time to time, face a change in leadership. For Delphian, now is such a time. After fifteen
years of dedicated service, Rosemary Didear is retiring as Head of School.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to express our warmest and sincerest gratitude to Rosemary for her
many contributions to the school. Her interaction with the Board and her care for our public and the school’s
ideals have been exemplary and characterized by the utmost in professionalism. Under her leadership, the school
has shown growth and improvement in virtually every conceivable way. The Board and the entire community will
miss her deeply, and we are encouraged that upon relinquishing her position next year, Rosemary hopes to remain
actively involved with the school, even if in a part-time role.
Long aware of her plans, Board leadership has worked closely with Rosemary and school executives in preparing
for this transition. The Board’s Search Committee began by considering prospects from within and outside the
school, and then narrowed it down to a handful of experienced Delphian administrators and senior faculty it felt
could best carry forward the school’s mission:
Empower young adults to bring positive change in the world through reason, creativity and integrity.
After extensive interviews by the Committee and in-depth discussion by the Board, it can now be announced that
current Deputy Business Manager, Trevor Ott, has accepted the appointment as Delphian’s next Head of School,
effective September 2015.
Trevor is both an accomplished administrator and teacher within and outside the school. A Delphian graduate
of the class of ’96, Trevor joined the faculty in 2001 and immediately became known for successfully holding
a variety of teaching positions in the Upper School. By 2010, he was directly overseeing the junior and senior
years of the largest graduating class in the school’s history. He also played an instrumental role on the Upper
School Redevelopment Committee, which the Board convened to help upgrade and streamline the Upper School
Program.
In 2012, he took on his current position in the Business Office, bringing his insights and skills to the areas of
Personnel, Finance, Legal and Estates, while serving as chair of the school’s Safety Committee and Advisory
Council.
Trevor has provided sound leadership in countless other areas, including student projects, practical instruction,
seminars and staff recruitment. Most recently, he played an important role in the dramatic upgrades seen
throughout the building and campus by spearheading the fundraising, design and construction of the beautiful
new courtyard.
In short, his impact on the school over the last decade and a half has been consistently very positive and often farreaching, all of which resulted in the Board’s unanimous decision to offer him the position of Head of School.
Trevor welcomes the opportunity to further serve the school and its mission in this new capacity. Both he and
Rosemary look forward to working together this coming fall to ensure a smooth transition.
The Board asks you to join us in welcoming him, while wishing Rosemary the best in her new role.
Sincerely,
Butch Nosko
