NTK is excited to introduce an overseas summer school program for students who would like to have the experience of studying
in the US in the summer.
Summer at Delphi is one of the only summer camps that teaches children how to study (without memorization or memory
tricks). This vital step, which is missing in many school systems today, can greatly increase a student’s enthusiasm to learn.
As they gain familiarity with these study methods, students find they are able to fully understand and apply what they study.
The result: many students realize they can succeed, and their interest in learning soars.

THE SUMMER PROGRAM
The Delphian School’s summer program balances
academic basics and a wide variety of elective
offerings with varied and challenging outdoor
activities and cultural experiences.
Over 250 courses and classes are offered each
summer. Students can get ahead or brush up in
specific school subjects and, most importantly, they
are introduced to the uniquely effective study methods
used at the school. In one summer at Delphi, a
young person can learn how to study any subject –
a skill that will last a lifetime.
Balancing our comprehensive academic program is
a wide variety of fun and age-appropriate activities
including instrumental music, arts and sports.
Camping, rafting and beach trips, sightseeing and
other weekend adventures are additional highlights
of the summer program that take full advantage of
Oregon’s beautiful summer climate and the cultural
and scenic riches of the Pacific Northwest.
Students come to Delphi from all across the United
States, from Japan, Mexico, Korea, Taiwan,
China, Russia, Germany, Canada, Austria, and
other countries. Summer at Delphi is always an
international experience.

FOUNDED IN 1976, Delphian School is a boarding
and day school that offers full year and summer programs for
students from around the world. Delphian also offers English
language learning for international students.
Located in the foothills of Oregon’s Coastal Range, the campus
covers 740 acres of hills, forests and meadows that support a
wide variety of sports and outdoor activities.
At Delphi, each student receives an academic program based
on age, interests, individual strengths, and weaknesses. Help
or guidance is always available, but so is challenge. We want
students to stretch, to grow, to reach higher and further.
Delphi faculty includes 51 full and part-time teachers and 46
additional staff who instruct, provide dorm supervision, coach
and act as advisors to individual students. Faculty have a broad
range of practical and professional experience and, in addition to
their academic degrees, have been trained in the study methods
of L. Ron Hubbard that are used at the school.
Delphian School is a member of the Oregon Federation of
Independent Schools, an Accredited Member of the Northwest
Association of Independent Schools (NWAIS), The Association
of Boarding Schools (TABS), the Western Boarding Schools
Association (WBSA), and an accredited member school of the
Northwest Accreditation Commission (NWAC).

CAMPUS LIFE
A Personal Approach
All boarding students enrolling in the Elementary and Middle Schools have Personal
Teachers. These are faculty or staff who give children the care their age requires.
Personal Teachers typically eat most meals with their students, oversee their
schedules, visit with them in the evenings and spend time together on weekends.
Personal Teachers maintain direct communication with the parents concerning the
child's growth and development while at the school.
Similarly, Upper School students have Faculty Advisors. These are faculty or staff
who provide adult friendship and guidance to help older students in a variety of
ways. This may include a trip into town for supplies, assistance in making travel
arrangements, or a good, heart-to-heart conversation.
Dorm Life
Student dormitories are located in the main building and in a dormitory building
overlooking the beautiful Willamette Valley. Living quarters vary from small single
rooms to large rooms for as many as six. Students may bring decorative items for
their rooms. There is a free laundromat on campus.
Each dorm has an Upper School student who serves as a dorm captain, and faculty
members and their families also reside in the buildings.
A staff member acting as a medical liaison also resides on campus. Doctors are on
call in the nearby town of McMinnville; the nearest hospital is 30 minutes away.
Spacious dining facilities overlook the oak and fir forest to the north of the main
building. The nutritious food is plentiful, and locally grown, organic fruits and
vegetables are often on the menu.
Recreational Facilities
Delphi’s 800 acres of rolling hills, meadows, forest and farmlands provide
an excellent resource for summer recreation. Athletic facilities include a large
gymnasium which houses basketball, volleyball and racquetball courts, and a
weight-lifting and gymnastics room.
Outdoor facilities include a stable with riding horses, an arena, and miles of riding
trails. There are baseball and softball diamonds, a soccer field, a running track, four
lighted tennis courts, and a playground for younger children. Swimming takes place
on trips to the ocean, local lakes, and in nearby community swimming pools.
There is a student lounge, and a recreation room with a pinball machine, pool table,
ping pong, foosball, and air hockey tables. There is also a well-stocked snack bar
and a student store.
Computer Facilities
Our computer facilities include a state-of-the-art audio-visual lab and a computer
sciences lab.
Wireless Internet access is available on over one hundred computers in selected
areas of the school, and in classrooms and labs.
A UNIQUE APPROACH
TO LEARNING
How students are taught is what makes Delphi truly unique. Students work independently
in a structured courseroom while their teachers supervise and advise — guiding,
providing resources when asked and giving a push when needed. Key to making this
work is a step-by-step study guide called a checksheet designed to bring a student into
useful understanding of a specific subject.
Drawings, clay models and laboratory or real life applications are used continuously as the
student learns, balancing understanding with function.
Personal Academic Program
Students are not all the same and don’t all arrive at Delphi on the same footing. Each
summer student is given diagnostic testing from which a program based on interests,
strengths and any weakness is designed. Teachers work closely with their students, keeping
track of daily progress and ensuring they are having fun while learning. A high level of
personal attention is not just an abstract idea at Delphi. It is a central, practical theme.
Learning to Study
Our basic assumptions are that within every individual is an innate desire to learn and know
more, that the process of learning is inherently a pleasurable experience, and that the only reason
a student feels otherwise is because there is something not understood. That something can be a
word, it can be a concept or action, or it can just be, “How does this apply to me?”
American writer and educator, L. Ron Hubbard, recognized these pitfalls and identified some basic
barriers to understanding. To help overcome these barriers and ensure a student could truly put his
or her education to use, Mr. Hubbard developed a technology of study.
Because Study Technology provides simple but powerful tools by which any subject can be fully
understood, every student who comes to Delphi begins by getting a firm grounding in it.* Through
its use, the world of knowledge becomes fully accessible, and a young person with abilities and
interests discovers his unlimited potential for success.
*Some international students may first be given a program to improve their English skills.

DAILY & WEEKEND SCHEDULES
Weekdays
In the Upper School, weekday mornings and early afternoons are devoted
to academic study. Afternoons are for a wide variety of sports including
swimming, horseback riding and elective classes such as ceramics and
computer programming. For example, an Upper School student might work
on algebra in the morning, spend the afternoon practicing piano, playing
soccer or horseback riding on Delphi’s forested trails.
Middle and Elementary School students spend their mornings and late
afternoons on academic subjects. Their afternoon activities include art,
crafts, science projects, music, horseback riding, swimming, bowling,
computers and a wide variety of sports. Evenings are reserved for group
activities such as a soccer game, dodgeball or other games in the gym.
All students age ten and older participate in the school’s service program
known as Student Services. The program gives students the opportunity to
contribute to the operation and maintenance of the school for 45 mintues
a day in order to gain a greater responsibility for their environment.
Weekends
The pace changes dramatically on summer weekends when students
embark on a variety of exciting off-campus and on-campus adventures.
Highlights of Delphi’s summer program are the weekend trips that can
include camping, white-water rafting, canoeing, sightseeing and shopping.
For example, Middle School students could go on a canoe trip and
participate in a challenging scavenger hunt. They might take a trip to
Seattle that could include going to a water park or the zoo. Upper School
students might get to experience the thrills of white-water rafting, go
camping or ride across the Oregon Sand Dunes in dune buggies driven by
experienced guides.
