VISION 2015
William H. & Margie Wilson
From the Executive Director
It is an understatement to say the Prichard Committee is a citizens’ organization.
The fact is citizens alone are what give the Prichard Committee the energy and the
credibility to push for vast improvements in our schools. And that is no doubt why
from the moment I began my tenure as the Committee’s second executive director
last September, I have felt so warmly embraced by Kentucky’s civic, business and
government leaders.
For nearly three decades, our goal has been to develop and unite such leaders to make
sure quality education remains at the forefront of Kentucky’s agenda. The ability to
mobilize concerned Kentuckians is the key reason the Prichard Committee stands out
among education advocacy groups nationwide. It also has resulted in tangible success. Recent highlights include:
• Kentucky’s incredible leap from 34th to 14th in the national ranking developed by Quality Counts,
which measures student achievement, education reform strategies, finance and indicators of a child’s
chance for success;
• Governor Beshear’s firm, public stand to support increased funding for pre-k, a nod to our pre-k
advocacy work spearheaded by the Business Leadership Council and the Strong Start Kentucky
campaign;
• Another two classes of parents beginning their Commonwealth Institute for Parent Leadership training,
joining the ranks of more than 1,700 others we have trained to advocate for student achievement;
• Strengthened partnerships with several other advocacy groups to amplify our concern about the loss of
school funding; and,
• The increased reach of our ReadyKentucky campaign, which continues to engage parents, teachers
and business and civic leaders in better understanding and promoting Kentucky’s new, more rigorous
academic standards.
Those who understand the challenges faced by Kentucky’s schools find this type of genuine progress
particularly compelling. They know that, in addition to time, real change in education requires the commitment
of a countless number of passionate, knowledgeable people with a shared, sustained vision.
Kentucky is fortunate to have such committed citizens and friends, and the Prichard Committee is a direct
beneficiary of their vision. The hundreds of individuals, businesses and foundations who are listed in these
pages offer indisputable proof of that reality.
THANK YOU!

2011 marked the Prichard Committee’s first foray deep into the wilds of e-fundraising and thanks to the brains behind the
initiative—the Blue Grass Community Foundation in collaboration with Smiley Pete Publishing—we couldn’t be more
pleased with the result.
58 Kentucky nonprofits participated in the Challenge, generating excitement and energy around giving locally during the
holiday season.
From Halloween until New Year’s Eve, 222 Prichard Committee friends rose to the challenge, contributing over $15,000 to
our annual fund and amassing nearly $9,000 in bonus prizes, including:
• $1,100 for being among the first of all nonprofits participating to generate
50 donors
• $1,111.11 for generating the most donors on 11.11.11
• $2,800 for meeting three of Bill Street’s “Taking it to the Street” challenges
• $600 for generating the second most number of donors during the
Barlow/Winfield Family Challenge
• $2,000 for having the most online donors of all the nonprofits participating
• $1,000 for raising the most amount of money of all the nonprofits participating
To fund the grassroots work we do serving as the voice for public education in Kentucky in such a grassroots way as
online fundraising seems as fitting as it is fortunate. Thank you, Goodgiving Challenge donors, for your generous and
pioneering gifts!

initiative—the Blue Grass Community Foundation in collaboration with Smiley Pete Publishing—we couldn’t be more
pleased with the result.

VISION 2015
• Kentucky’s incredible leap from 34th to 14th in the national ranking developed by Quality Counts,
which measures student achievement, education reform strategies, finance and indicators of a child’s
chance for success;
• Governor Beshear’s firm, public stand to support increased funding for pre-k, a nod to our pre-k
advocacy work spearheaded by the Business Leadership Council and the Strong Start Kentucky
campaign;
• Another two classes of parents beginning their Commonwealth Institute for Parent Leadership training,
joining the ranks of more than 1,700 others we have trained to advocate for student achievement;
